@@653j521 that's exactly what I was going to add. I can't stand these bougie places that harass people that are on public property and within their rights to be there passing through. I don't think loitering counts if it's under 15 minutes or something like that. Now, one could mess with them back. Or even go in the other direction and get them for harassment, but is it even worth their energy? That's why, I say, don't even engage. Hahaha!! You live in TEXAS. Where's that barf emoji when you need it. It's pretty hilarious that you think you live in a great state and yet your rent is really really cheap. You do realize why rent is cheap right? For the same reason that rents in places like New York and California are high. Because millions of people want to live there and there aren't enough places for all of them. But I'll bet you believe the hype that California is emptying out! Yah 400,000 people moved out of California in the last 4 years. You know how many people live in Los Angeles County alone? 20 million. So talk to me when five or six million people move out, first the traffic will improve, and then rents will come down. I lived in Los Angeles and people from texas, wyoming, missouri, etcetera totally destroyed the place. From 2000 to 2010, the population of Los Angeles almost doubled. We're happy to see a lot of you leave.

I had to live for work reasons in Madrid, where rent would cover up almost 60% of my income (just rent, not even talking about food). I invested in a 2nd hand ford transit. I cheaply remodeled it with ikea wood. Used a baterry i took everyday to work to charge and i showered in the gym. I ended up parking 2 blocks away from my work. Saved 50% of my income every month. Some winters were dificult. But in 3 years i had enough to quit my job go back home buy a decent home and be a home owner by 30. Plus still having a van to go skiing, route in europe in summer or anything i need.

In apartment #1, you pay a premium for that huge deck, but it lacks the room size, second bathroom and in-unit laundry of #2. Apartment #3 is set up for near-luxury living for a family with a maid or a mother-in-law who does the cooking, but at a price. My preference would be #2, which could easily be shared. Not sure if I'd have a dog in NY unless I had a balcony to set out one of those artificial grass patches that collects waste underneath. It's really the only way a dog can do its business. Otherwise it's a long trip to get to the ground floor and there's literally nowhere for them to go.

I lived in a 100sf apartment on top of a building on the upper east side (for $200/month with heat, hot water and electricity included!), the bathroom was in the hallway but I was the only one up there so it was mine, it was super quiet, the 2 windows were huge and I had the rest of the roof as a large terrace. Lots of sun and a kick ass view. I built a loft bed which gave more room on the floor level. It was actually on top of a luxury building with doorman, etc, half a block from central park and in an incredible neighborhood. It had everything that a larger apartment would have, only smaller. The building allowed pets so I even had my cat there. It was crazy. I got the arrangement from a friend after an emergency of getting out of a domestic violence situation, and it was my little slice of peace and recovery. I actually loved that place and miss it sometimes.😅

I love, love, love! the older classic apartments. The last one is the best, just because of the size. I like how they updated it. However, I wish they left a little more character in it. in my books, NEVER paint good old wood. Some of that trim, and ceiling details, would have added more warmth. But still a type of NY apartment I would absolutely enjoy!

I pay like $3k to live in a high-rise in downtown San Diego and think its nuts and can barely afford it. I have no clue how people justify paying like 3x that for an old apartment in a pretty beat up building. I get the allure of NYC but you gotta really love it to stay there long term paying that kind of premium. I can't wrap my head around owning a house in Southern California but for these prices, you could and you'd own it...eventually... in a beautiful place. I guess you love the city or are there for family and or work...like anywhere i suppose

The penthouse apartment has a fantastic terrace. But the last apartment is the winner. You can decorate all you want in the huge living area. The building is definitely pre-war because it is illegal now to have a bedroom access only through the kitchen. It's a fire safety issue. But you can make it an office or library room.

Wasn't that first apartment with the big terrace Sigourney Weaver's apartment from Ghostbusters? Does that make Charles, literally, The Keymaster? Nice apartments. One of my favorite areas of NYC. But the rents are about 5X what my New Jersey 2-bed condo would rent for (if I wanted to rent it). But that wrap-around terrace is lots bigger than my balcony. BTW, are these apartments air conditioned? I didn't see any A/C.

Just asking: How does this work? - From the time this buildings was built, this mustve been an empty terrace, accessible to all, or for service and maintenance. So, with legal planning permissions, you can just plop a small apartment in the center, rent it out, make some money?

9:06 That fridge/stove door situation cannot be adjusted unfortunately. Unless you moved the stove to the ledt side (but then it wouldn't be under the vent, so you'd have to moce the vent too) or you moved the fridge, which has it own custom space built. Very poor planning by this landlord. It's either a total redo involving dismantling some cupboards or it stays that way, and that price is gonna have to come down. As moving the fridge would implicate moving the laundry (and then, pipes) i'd say switching some cabinets around and cutting the counter to move the vent & stove to the left is your only option. That mistake is gonna be costly. Can you tell i've been a landlord for a number of years? Yeah.
