You have to understand NYC is a labor union town. The labor unions have a lot of power and Walmart refuses to give into the unions. Other retailers like Target give in to the unions.

Amazon warehouse also don't give in to union. Starbucks started closing stores that unionized So did traders Joe's They closed their most successful Trader's on 14th union Square when they voted 🗳 to unionized. They closed immediately and didn't even tell the employees So there are many big name chains that don't unionized They don't want Walmart is because the other retailers are scared of the competition and they will lose money. So they they pay politicians to make sure Walmart doesn't come NYC.

I remember watching a Frontline documentary about Walmart and they said over 50% of Dial soaps revenue is from Walmart. If Walmart were to randomly stop doing business with Dial, more than half of their revenue would drop from one buyer. Walmart knows this and this is why they can strong arm Dial into lower prices. This is the sheer amount of buying power they have.

If Walmart were to launch in NYC, it would probably launch on the outskirts of Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx at shopping malls with huge parking lots such as Jamaica, Flushing, Yonkers & Coney Island or they would probably open in a massive warehouse near JFK, as it would be much cheaper and they would get more space compared to if they were to open in Lower Manhattan or Midtown.

In the early 2000s Nordstrom did a viability study on opening a store in NYC. At that point, If I remember correctly, they had under 100 stores at that time. Their analysis of the cost of opening a store inside the city was more than all their other stores combined - so they put the plan on ice for well over a decade before opening their 2 stores in Manhattan. It’s amazing that so many mom and pop stores are able to get through the process in the city. It’s actually a miracle.

True, but they are still cheaper than anyone else on the "everyday" prices. When you factor in sales, other grocery chains can beat them sometimes. Aldi WAS beating Wal-Mart's regular prices for a lot of things until about two years ago. Now their prices are virtually identical to Wal-Mart's, which is visibly hurting Aldi's business in less affluent areas. In the smaller towns value normally wins, but if you don't compete on value then people will choose the more convenient option, which is usually Wal-Mart.

I am curious to know which h local politicians paid off a mortgage, purchased a boat or went on a European holiday around that time. The wishes of the local community are disregarded, what else is new. Walmart employees have to go to social services for medical, food stamps, etc. because they are not paid a living wage, putting the burden on the local taxpayer. They use the local police as their security instead of hiring people trained in loss prevention. They threaten to close the store if the employees want to unionize. Walmart had stores there until this year but Walmart was tired of the scumbags destroying the stores completely and 37 Walmart stores got destroyed in less than 3 weeks and so Walmart shut all other 80 plus stores down because they are not playing games with thugs and scumbags. If you don't want food then you don't get food. Not educational when they lie out their ass. Also all those stores he showed have been shut down do to fire damage and being trashed completely for 3 years now. That is old altered footage. Actually Walmart is not banned they are in reality begging on their hands and knees for Walmart to come back because people are without reliable food sources and without reliable supplies and without reliable sales and New York is about $5.3 trillion in debt. The state is in complete collapse and large corporations have gotten the fuck out. Target left this year as well. Best Boy lest 2 years ago. Those closing stores shut down last year. Home Depot left 6 months ago. None of those stores are still open they are all shut down do to fire damage and mass theft and no construction company will go anywhere near New York to fix anything do to how fucking dangerous New York has become. No one will fix shit because crime is insane and the crime is out of control because the government of New York refuses to prosecute actual criminals. Stores that do exist have to chain everything but were then told by the government that if you put chains or lock doors then they will be fined. Walgreens left as well because if they can not protect their shit from being stollen and they get fined for adding security then why stay in a shit hole?! Nearly 100% of all large corporations have left Illinois, California, Colorado, New York, and every other Democrat run state. Hell New York right now is actually flipping to Republican because even Democrats are starting to vote Republican because their lives are actually in shit. This guy does not even live in New York at all and he uses green screens. He actually lives in Florida. Yea he lives in Florida and does not travel at all.

@@dr.vanhellsing Sure you write of Germany? High prices and high discounts (coupons) are an US-American thing. Groceries cost still more than double in the US than what they cost in Germany and many groceries in the US contain half a chemical company in unneeded addons. Discounts in Germany are always low if you get one, only a few per cent, not the 50 per cent I've often seen in the USofA. Gas did always cost more in Europe compared to the USA. Our prices went up, but not because of the lack of cheap gas. The cause is the lack of other resources. What many outside Europe does not know is that Ukraine was an agricultural country. Grain, oil plants and mustard came from Ukraine. for mustard plants Ukraine was the main supplier in the world and companies worldwide have problems getting seeds to produce mustard. In the beginning of the war we had plant oil prices of 7-9$ a liter. Now it's back to 1-2$ a liter. A bit more expensive than before, but that's understandable because of the longer transport. Many African countries are struggling and fighting a famine because they get no grain anymore from Ukraine. Grain that is now destroyed by Putlers drones on the fields an warehouses and the blocking of ships in the black sea.

Some of their labor practices have been questionable, and they still have full-time employees that are on welfare to pay their bills, but they become the only place where you can find a job. Walmart must be the country's biggest importer of goods from China. Some of their groceries are not bargains, and they consistently rate at the bottom of supermarket ratings. I worked at Wal-Mart from 2018-2020. I was working late the night before Black Friday up here in Canada which isn't as big of a deal as the States, and they asked me to come in during Black Friday at 6 in the morning. I needed the money so I accepted. Came in with a coffee, as its 6 in the morning. Immediately the produce manager screams at me "If I'm not allowed to have a coffee, your not either, go dump it immediately". I looked at her and said "I don't get paid enough to dump this coffee. I'll put it in my car, but I'm not dumping it.". Grabbed my safety vest and left out the door. Empty parking lot btw, as all the customers were inside, immediate write up for not having my vest "on", despite me having it over my shoulder, clearly visible. I'll take the blame for that one, that's on me. But in the 3 years I was there, I got yelled at daily, at least 6 or 7 times a day. All by managers that weren't my direct manager, because they were allowed to abuse their power. And its not like I was doing anything wrong either. I could be out in the middle of grabbing carts and one of them would yell at me or one of my coworkers. We had a coworker sit down to tie his shoes and he got written up for being "lazy". This same coworker failed to inform my other coworker of a frayed wire on our cart manager machine, and nearly electrocuted him (his jacket got burn marks). Threw their hands up, did nothing. It got so bad, that the day I quit to go back to college, my entire department mass quit. They had to shut down the department for 6 months because none of their other staff wanted to work there, knowing how poorly we were being treated. I have so many stories about that store, and other retail stores I've worked that when I finally experienced my first "real" job last year it was a culture shock to me, seeing managers actually give a damn about me and my coworkers.

I'm from the midwest - never been to NYC, But I've never heard anything positive about the city. I really hope that Walmart's plans for a NYC store are dead. If the city came to Walmart on their hands and knees begging them to open a store, that they would say 'no thanks' - the polite way of responding with 'screw you'. And by the way, I believe that I also heard that TARGET was closing certain locations there, because of the high cost of SHOPLIFTING there, regardless of the state that it would leave local communities afterward.

You missed 1 glaring problem with Walmart and why some cities do not have one. That problem is that when a Walmart moves into a location they drive their prices so low that small mom and pop shops cannot compete and close down. Then after the small shops close down they raise their prices back up. America's greatest retail store is worst when it comes to price gouging.

Whether or not the prices are cheaper, the condition of the stores are horrible. An amazing, beautiful, sparkling Walmart Superstore came about a 1-2 years ago. By the 6th month the inside was just as trashed as the Walmart from 3 decades. I have only seen one Walmart that bucks all the rules of why Walmart sucks- located in Patterson, CA. It is a farming town that has been expanding for the last couple decades. But NO big name stores go there???? It is the only big box store in this town. The only competition is a local grocery chain -that is thriving. That store is immaculate. The reason it runs so well, is because it is community invested. The people who work there are neighbors with people who shop there. For this smaller, lower social economic town the wages are amazing. Because there never really were successful mom and pop stores, they didn’t really drive any out. By increasing the economy it’s one of the only Walmart’s that I have heard of that has actually encouraged mom and pop stores to open.

Now once that city starts flourishing and people start moving in, I think it'll be a different situation but that'll be a time far, far into the future. But yes, the cheaply priced goods will definitely attract not only the one's that can pay for a higher price but also the one's that are living in extreme-poverty. Like was mentioned, 100k/year is still struggling in NYC, but what about those making under 50, 60k/year? They'll also be going. Children, teens, thugs, hoodlums, etc will all be going because that's the clientele that Wal-Mart 1000% attracts. I remember visiting Patterson with some friends over a 15+ years ago, and haven'[t been back since. I'm sure it's definitely come up a lot since then.

Cash, my sister and her partner have been working for Walmart in their medium size city in a different part of the country for 10+ years. There aren’t a lot of other employment choices for them, college and professional jobs are not options for everyone. Maybe if you’re making a video about Walmart, perhaps spend a little time researching unfair labor practices and what that means, rather than just using it as a buzzword and moving on to the pro- Walmart points. I know just from hearing their stories what it means. Back to back shifts with only 6 hours of sleep in between, rock bottom wages. My sister was working full-time hours there during a pandemic, basically putting her health and my elderly mother’s health at risk because she lives with her. And they cut her hours back to just below the level that she qualified for their healthcare plan so that she didn’t have healthcare while she was working there for a year during a national health emergency. And I can tell you that they both would love a job at Costco, known for good labor practices and good livable wages, but those jobs are hard to get.

At this point, those low prices bring in people who are ignorant, violent and as disrespectful as it gets...that goes for their employees as well. I guarantee that part of the reason that Target keeps their prices higher is so that they keep as much drama out of their stores as possible. For instance, I was at Target on Saturday.. The store was clean, the staff were friendly, the customers were respectful of each other, and there was room to move around. Now consider what shopping at Walmart is like on a Saturday. On top of that, the shelves were stocked. Empty shelves is quickly becoming a habit with Walmart these days, so that you go online to buy your stuff (most people do not realize what Walmart is doing behind the scenes to get you to shop online vs brick and mortar stores). Since I do not hate myself enough to deal with the stupid shit at Walmart, I will always gladly pay the average extra $50 weekly to shop at Target.

The nearest "big" town where I live has a Walmart but it's not a Walmart "super store" with a supermarket. Yes, they sell dry good grocery items, but they are not as cheap as they used to be. (inflation) And frankly, the local Aldi is much cheaper and has better quality staples. Some of Walmart's branded "great value" items are garbage. Their appliances and furniture are, frankly, junk. Their clothes fall apart easily after a few washings. I go to the Goodwill store, the local charity shop and the secondhand store for clothing. Walmart, along with Amazon, successfully destroyed the small local mall we had, and many businesses in the local "big" town. Walmart is the "only game in town" and they eliminated their slogan of "pay less, live better" because it's no longer true. That big mall you showed, Cash, with all those small shops would disappear if Walmart came to NYC. Chuck in Northern New England

Is that your opinion about Walmart great value and all that crap or is it you're just being negative about everything like everyone else

lol, 90% of store brand stuff is literally the company paying to slap the label on it. So name brand is basically a rip off since you can literally get it cheaper. Canned goods, stuff like spices, sugar literally all come from the same place. Fun fact Great value ice cream is literally made by Blue Bell

I don't buy brand name products. All the staples I buy are from Aldi, which are higher quality and less adulterated than most brand-named products. The FDA has done a good job of blowing smoke in favor of the food industry. It's easy to condemn soft drinks while the food conglomerates adulterate the food chain. Why do you think so many American products are denied entry into the European Union, unless the offending additives are removed? @@jaquazz8971

Walmart Plus is much cheaper than Amazon Prime and some orders arrive the next day. I'm a member of both and probably buy about an equal amount from each. Home Depot is amazing lately. I've been ordering small items with free shipping so no minimum and I get a 10% veteran's discount and there is no annual fee. I live in a remote area in the mountains. It is almost an hour to Walmart and 2 hours to Home Depot by car so online ordering is a must. UPS or FedEx stop at my house almost every day.

Truth is. The less money it cost to survive. The less sales taxes the city brings in.

As far as pay goes, Target and Walmart pay about the same, but there are so many more Walmart employees. These stores rely on the government to supply SNAP and other benefits to their employees so they can keep their wages low. A big NO to both of them.

@ericalampley480 Walmart also doesn't have any sort of a pension or a 401k plan, unlike most state and federal employees where the benefits are pretty good and the job is stable (especially health insurance)

We don’t allow them in San Francisco or Marin counties either- and I’m glad! Their pay is low, labor practices sketchy, and they put Mom and Pop stores out of business.

They have small Walmart grocery stores in the south, no bigger than a typical grocery store, I wonder why they don't do that in NYC?

The political reasons why Wal-Mart isn't in NYC just feels silly and don't make a lot of sense to me. I went to the city for the first time last summer, coming from North Carolina, and I was blown away at how sky high the prices were for basic things, compared to what they are in NC. I think that people in NYC with such a high cost of living could probably benefit from a large retailer like Wal-Mart who can bring cheaper necessities to them. I know Wal-Mart isn't the most ethical store, but what large chain is? Like you mentioned, there are so many other chains in the city that also have a bad track record, but nobody seems to care. To me, it feels like Wal-Mart is targeted because there's a perception that Wal-Mart is for poor people. Classism really is what it boils down to. Wal-Mart is seen as being too "low brow", while stores like Target are seen as nicer, so they get to stay. It's so ridiculous, imo, and this attitude just hurts the people living there more than it helps them.
