Aesthetically its horrible.. Fender seem to keep throwing class8c designs together in the hope that itll work and most times it just doesnt..Like Tele/Strat hybrids or {insert model here} /strat hybrid.. Personally i think its lazy as hell. I really dont get who would want an acoustasonic..Acoustic players are generally more stuck on the classics than electric players {and thats saying something!!} and would never touch something like this on purely aesthetic grounds.. Electric players who want an acoustic sound can either: A. Buy an acoustic Sim pedal. Or B. Buy an acoustic guitar.. The only people i see using these guitars and raving about how great they are are the people who are being PAID to be seen playing them and saying how great they are at every given opportunity...People will look back in a couple decades from mow and wonder wtf they were thinking.. In the early/mid 80s i worked in a uk guitar shop and remember reps raving about the Fender Katana and the like while we were all thinking.. NOOOOOOO!!!! 😭 I know its hard to move forward in a business thats defined by its past but sometimes im amazed by what awful frankensteins monster guitar is unleashed as the future of such an illustrious company... Personally, as a content consumer, it’s rough to see. I’d personally never gig with a guitar from the acoustisonic line, but I understand why someone would like them. I also appreciate that a lot of r&d probably went into the design of them, so Fender has a lot invested and want to see a good return. Appealing to massive creators isn’t a new thing, and given the stakes involved for Fender, it makes sense. From the perspective of the content creator, I 100% understand taking the paycheque. Views are down, copyright strikes are rampant, gigs have dried up, and bills stay the same. If I was them, I’d 100% take the cheque and the guitar. It also provides the ability to build a brand relationship with a company that makes other, high quality instruments too. They never have to use the acoustisonic afterwards, and they could even sell it if they wanted to. So no shame on the content creators at all, Im probably just not gonna watch that video.

I agree. I appreciate Fender doing something different. Is it going to appeal to all? Never will, but at least they are moving forward in design and sound.
@DavidSmith-ss1cg3 жыл бұрын
The people who get them should hang onto them and save them, 'cuz they won't get popular and will become future oddities - but worth having, as a curiosity. Even more so if you can get one finished differently. They are the kind that would be good to keep next to the couch, or in the office, or on a stand in the bathroom, so you can grab it if you get an idea. They would be great if small numbers of 'em were made to supply a niche market, if Fender was gonna make 'em long-term; but I fear that they won't become an overnight sensation, and so Fender will discontinue them. This is too bad, as they will be JUST what some few types of people will find to be just right for them. A few years ago, Budweiser made an ale to try to sell to the US, where people had started accepting the craft beers, and so small breweries came out with all these ales. So Budweiser had their go at it - and when it didn't sell well, they stopped making it - which was too bad; it was OK for an American ale, and kinda tasted sorta "Budweiser." It didn't hit the "Home Run," though, so it disappeared. The acoustic Fender guitar will certainly appeal to the folks that liked the first Acoustasonic but had wanted it to resemble a Strat more than a Telecaster. I remember that Roy Clark got an Ovation acoustic when they first appeared, in the 1960s. He strung it with electric guitar strings, so he could practice on airplane flights - and he liked it(although it was Glen Campbell's endorsement that caused a lot of people to give 'em a try). Later on, the US vocal group America made them popular by all 3 playing them - which was a good advertising image, the 3 of them, all with Ovations, including a 12-string. This is all Music business stuff, like you've said. The noise will pass soon, and the guitar probably will, too. Which is too bad - it would probably be a worthy mate to the Fender acoustic Tele clone; you know, to have a Strat clone available for the folks who'll prefer for their Fender acoustic guitar to resemble a Strat instead of a Tele. Fortune passes everywhere.

Even though some KZbinrs make clear that they won't give good reviews for free gear if it's crappy, I feel like they must know that negative reviews will mean less free stuff which means less content that they can produce.

They call it the “Deluge” it’s been happening for at least 2-3 years now, every channel gets a product and a launch date and everyone pumps out their video and pollutes your subscription feed. 😂 I never watch them when there’s that many vids, unless it’s something I’m hugely interested in, then I’ll pick my favorite of the 50+ vids 😂

The last two social media blitz's that came recently were Eastman Guitars and before that the Positive Grid Spark amp. I have a Spark on my desk for a noodle amp and computer speaker, so this kind of marketing works.
@suereed3 жыл бұрын
Interesting I'd forgotten the Eastman deluge, they must have stopped making them as the retailers only seen to have old stock that no one wants. They did a good job of convincing people to spend £2000 on a Chinese guitar instead of spending £3000 on a USA guitar.

So glad you touched on this. The first 8 recommended videos for me were acoustasonic jazzmaster “reviews.” If you guys want ambiguity and honest reviews, checkout Phil McKnight’s channel - Know Your Gear

Yeah, most of these should just say "Paid Demonstration" rather than review. A review will really put it through its paces for more than the 10 minute demo.

Fender did pretty well with last years new Pro II line doing this, right?
@CasinoGuitars3 жыл бұрын
We were talking about that and how that made a lot more sense than this one. Those guitars are way less niche and a "must have" for many. And this push may be what this odd guitar needs. Thanks for sharing!

I've opted out of all major guitar channels about three years ago, when it became unbearable to see guys without strong ethics advertise, mostly without disclosure. They are the obedient salespeople of the 21st century the companies have waited for. I get totally turned off by aggressive marketing, that's why I haven't bought any Fender guitars in three years. But there are definitely too many 15yo with too much money, who buy every advertised product and get influenced very easily - but even a lot of older ones seem to be very easily led nowadays and lack any critical thinking. I work as a social scientist and data actually shows exactly that - that teenagers in western countries have the most money and opportunities in history, but lack maturity and responsibility more than ever before (at least since the first surveys about 30-40 years ago). And companies are well aware of that, they use data and psychology of the masses, and that's why companies spend more money on advertisement than on quality control. As soon as I see guitars or products pop up on YT-channels, I'm not interested in these anymore at all. I hardly ever write any comments, it doesn't make any difference (aside from helping the video to become more relevant regarding the YT-algorithm...) and no-one reads it.
@joebobhenrybob20003 жыл бұрын
I read it! The internet was fun for a decade or two. But there's a lot of money out there sloshing around and various corp/gov entities have fully adapted. Geniuses with Phd's in psychology and statistics have worked hard to discover exactly how to take advantage of human nature and the resulting algorithms never sleep. And corp/gov entities have figured out how to fake grassroots trends online and then said hey we can do this in meatspace as well. It seems to have reached a sort of saturation point where people realize it's time to just turn it off. Everything is now "leveraged" for the purpose of something else. You can't trust product reviews on sales websites anymore (maybe some 1 star reviews...) you can't trust music or film awards let alone reviews. You can't try to filter based on low production value even ....how many cheap low production fake grassroots channels can you create? infinite for all intents and purposes. Maybe there's still some merit to seeing which apparent grassroots channels have ongoing efforts to marginalize them, as those would likely be the ones with the least money behind them, but then again there could be 2 monied interests duking it out for all I know. So you end up going by word of mouth from people whose content you analyze and evaluate skeptically for yourself - as all systems of reputation/trust-building are leveraged as well. The entire universe of product review turns into sort of a disembodied corrupt 3rd world country that exists on the internet with unseen neo-feudal relationships in a giant criss-crossed web. Cheerful thought eh.

I am glad I retired from music retail after forty five years. My first job Strings and Things Denver 01/72 -2018. Music bis is so mainstream now days with so many consumer "know-it-all's" with the internet. All of this and no place to play. No clubs or venues that pay musician's a paycheck. I remember when even a good Strat copy was not an everyday bedroom decoration. Now everybody is a guitar player that isn't capable of playing. Now everybody is a consumer review person that just buys gear.
