I do prefer the gw-m5610. It is cheaper, looks 99% the same, but it has Multiband 6 and is solar powered, so it'll probably run accurate to the second and never needs a battery replacement until it dies off.

That pricetag is actually normal for the slightly more rugged DW-5600 models, its the metal case with screw back that makes it bit more expensive. The cheaper DW-5600 has plastic case with thin 4 screws back.

I love my 5610u, with the DD-MM date, multiple alarms, and big A button. It has downsides, though: The solar panel narrows the viewing angle. If there are coins in the piggy bank, I might just grab this reissue. It may not be as beautiful as 5040 limited edition, and the price is reasonable (unlike the Casiotron reissue, which is for fans *only).* Also, if it looks exactly like a watch I already have, I don't need to announce it at home... 😅

Whats the difference between this and the 5610U or the 5000U? It looks like a 5610U with a steel case like the 5000U.

These have the aesthetic and function of the original. Modern iterations have far more functionality. This is a collectors piece like the DW-5040 anniversary model from last year.

I think the main difference between the DW-5000R and the GW-5000U is that the 5000R is a complete a copy of the original 5000C released in 1983. And the 5000R probably, just like the original, will not have a solar panel. Whereas the 5000U is an improved version of the original that has a touch solar.

I plan to get one and add to my collection. It’s selling at £140 from a shop I have been buying from. Meanwhile the offficial distributor is having a draw….those people who ‘won’ can purchase at £191. I may wear it for a few days and then return to using my MRG square.

I would pay €200 for it, but not more without a tough solar function - changing batteries is a waste of time, especially when you have many watches

You are the kind that'd buy a Rolex Explorer and complain about its lack of date - Last time I check Casio is still making the GWM5610 & GW5000, just buy those and enjoy your tough solar. The DW5000R's singular mission is to be as faithful to the original DW5000C as possible and the 5000C was obviously without tough solar. Just admit this release is not for you and move on mate😅

@@vaclav_fejt unfortunately your preference seems to be too niche for Casio to build a plausible business case. Maybe one day they'd find it worth a while to cater your very specific need, but until then, the DW5000R is all about celebrating the original square from 1983, which was non-solar.

@@fengxueshanshenmiao Yeah, it's a real shame, isn't it? Sarcasm aside, I use my pickiness as a way to save money. Every time I accept an imperfection in my collection, I get poorer, in addition to another watch I don't need. :D But I promise, if my plastic G gets its case broken, I'm getting a steel one, no matter the colour. After all, there are modders who know how to keep the water resistance high.

Pienso que la actualización a sido poca, una luz LED y nada más ,creo que un touch solar y Bluetooth hubiera sido más acertado,me encantan los casios tengo varios he tenido muchos ahora uso mucho 2 ,uno es el Casio gw5000u y creo que es superior a este dw5000r por eso creo que no me lo compraré por lo menos hasta que lo mejoren o hasta que saquen una serie limitada que merezca la pena, creo que tendrá muchas ventas este modelo por ser igual o muy similar al primero y hay relojes de esos todavía funcionando y el prestigio es el prestigio

Seriously? Do you really think that wasn't smart? Collectors and people who really love and know G-shock beyond the 5610 are dying to buy it! In Japan, the stock sold out in less than 12 hours! It's not about the watch's features (if that were the case, I would recommend the GW-5000) it's about the vintage experience, the memories. If that doesn't mean anything to you, then keep your 5610. The scene here is like dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant or eating a Big Mac, you can do both, but each has a different justification.

That's the point. It's a recreation of the very first one ever produced. There is a large community of people who buy primarily vintage and orginal g shocks. A modern spec of the orginal watch is def a marketable item
