Cheers for the feedback and support on the channel, and more importantly, it has helped you. The GPR-B1000 is still my favourite watch... it has the most basic of navigational methods, but pointing to goal is all you need the most... You can enter coordinates into the app, and transfer that to the watch, which I did a video on... so with some skill mindful thinking, you can make it very useful. How are you liking the GPR? Cheers

@WatchUP69 Mr Rangeman Thank you for the reply!! I will receive my GPR around Wed or Thurs this week. I'll get out on a good 6-mile hike in a local state park on some high bluffs along the Mississippi River, Pierre Marquette State Park. There is a good range of elevation there. Also, I watched your breat video putting the GPR's GOS to the test on a long road trip. The route was broken up in about 9 segments. Were those segments created by turning the GPS off then on again or automatically by the watch? Also, a masterful video comparing the GPR to two Garmins!!!

@@thomasrayborn3177 The GPS signal in my view is antenna based much like how phones work, as in some areas like airports and military zones, location signals are lost... so while travelling down, it could be that I hit a few of these flat spots??? I'm only thinking to why.... there has been times I've been in a deep valley in Switzerland with a wonderful clear blue sky above, yet no GPS, even my Fenix 5X Plus at the time had no GPS... then when I climbed higher, I then got a GPS connection, thus why I feel it's antenna based... would work too, and have read the military still use this... feel satellites are used for other reasons, not to send locations to a tiny watch, imagine the load on each one???? Just remember that the GPR isn't a smart watch, so when connecting the GPS, it will take a moment to connect, sometimes it can be a minute or a little more... once connected, it's really good... if walking, then 'NORMAL' GPS (24hr running time) setting is plenty... if you need more accuracy, then 'HIGH RATE' (4hr running time) So what I do... clear the goal on the GPS (might have a route loaded) then open the altimeter... from there long press on the crown which will start the GPS... once you see the GPS icon at the bottom left corner, press button C till the altimeter is shown, then wait for a short moment till the GPS (Geo Positioning System) locates your coordinate and adjusts the altimeter reading, then start your hike, reason being, it won't have such a sudden curve when you transfer the data after your hike. If you manually adjust the altimeter, then the GPS won't automatically calibrate for 1 hour... hope that helps :)) Cheers!

Great Video ! All these watches are great, but for me Casio Rangmen is simply the best. I have this watch for a year now and it has never let me down. I cycle a lot in dense forest areas and i use gps all the time. Rangman doesn't have maps, but it always brings me to a specific point without any problem and this is the most important for me. Gps is very stable. I love the clarity and readability of the display. No matter if there is strong sun, rain, storm, clouds, always I can read the data easily. The solar panel in this watch is just great, the watch charges quickly. Apart from cycling I love hikng and the gym. In these categories the watch also works great. Of course, this watch doesn't have heart rate monitoring or calories etc. but i don't need it at all. Overall I love this watch. Many thanks for Great Review and Your time. All the best ;) I subscribed Your channel because is simply the best on KZbin.

WatchUP69 Mr Rangeman Walking in a park in Lithuania and talking with myself (even without a camera) is the perfect recreation! 😊 To the watches themself, since I have an instinct and a rangebeast myself: the main problem of all navigation devices is how bad / outdated the maps are! Orthographic maps are often up to 50 years old and nature is constantly changing. Two of my hikes in the last three months ended in a dead end, since a trail in the forest ended in front of young trees, and the other I could see where the trailmonce was, but was overgrown with thorn bushes. In reality the Rangebeast is the better watch, since you will find your own way, if you have the direction. BUT if the watch is not strapped to a bottle in front of you (😉), it is necessary to stop walking, and wait about five seconds to give the watch time to find the correct direction. I hope the next Rangebeast will have a quicker processor, the ability to use the Galileo system and 20 - 30 waypoints.

@@hansspiegl8684 Great comment and some good points, especially with the way points... always makes me wonder why 9 way points, was there 9 wonders in the world? 20 would be a good amount, but is there enough? :)) With regards to the delay, there is very good reason to this, and it's done on purpose. If you're on very rough terrain or have the watch strapped to a bike, the bearing compass remains stable, as when for an example I use my Fenix 6 Pro, the map or bearing jumps madly making it difficult to navigate with. Until you've tried it on something other than on foot over rough ground going quickly, then it would seem sluggish, but it's for a purpose. Galileo or GLONAS need more battery power, so at the time CASIO opted for endurance over quick connection... sometimes my GPR connects faster than my Fenix 6 Pro, so work that side out?? :-P The part with the Instinct is it doesn't hold the maps in the watch, it only uses the date in coordinate form... the Garmin Explore app does the updates to keep the map fresh there, so really the Instinct shouldn't outdate. I've seen a few forums with battery replacements, looks involving, but can be done if you have common basic tool skills... but don't think you need to worry for a while about that side. Apps and what data is available doesn't help if the paths aren't maintained, and in general this happens when those using them stop and start using a different route. We have them here too in the UK... have taken many routes only to find that they pass through private land, and the owners block those paths which is in fact illegal, but it happens... or there is a bausteller and you can't access it at all, which has happened which turned a 7km short walk into a 15km hike. Have a great day my dear friend and thanks again :))

WatchUP69 Mr Rangeman Thank you for the detailed answer! Especially the delay I didn’t know. And yes all other positions systems (Glonass, Galileo, ...) needs more battery power, and the rangebeast is a masterpiece in saving battery. I hope you will make a review of the H1000 soon. I am using one since two weeks, and I am satisfied with it. Don’t have any problems, heart rate, calorie tracking and distance/speed are all equal to Apple Watch and Garmin Instinct. Ignoring Price: Survival Situation - Winner: Rangeman Wilderness Hiking - Winner: Instinct City Exploring - Winner: Fenix The Instinct's bearing indicator was less accurate than the Rangeman's, but the Instinct allowed for a proper track back. It actually allowed you to follow the path back that you used to get to your current location. Rangeman only allows you to backtrack in a straight line, which sucks if there is a mountain, swamp, or buildings between you and your destination. The Garmin watches offer a visual route, which most people would find more appealing than the Rangeman's bearing only approach. Having to walk in a straight line until your watch tells you you've gone to far is not as safe as having a visual route where you can see an up coming turn, and prepare yourself for it.
@WatchUP69MrRangeman
@WatchUP69MrRangeman 3 жыл бұрын
You are correct, and there are ways around it but does need more button presses like using the Point Memos along route which is shown on the map (not as detailed, but does show the Point Memos) so you can navigate back to each one at a time, meaning you can reset the goal to that Point Memo... I know the Garmin's are less fuss and that's a good point... bearing compass to goal is really good with regards to using it with a map thus to avoid that broken bridge. The Rangeman is survival for sure, if hiking for leisure the Garmin will net this one for being more detailed. You're right with the Fenix being top in a city, built in maps on the wrist leaves you hands free to eat ice cream on the go :)) Personally I like the bearing back in a straight line, and with the Fenix you can do a direct route with track back taking you the more direct route instead of original trail. Using the Rangeman GPS while shopping with Mrs Rangeman is interesting, as it looks like a four year old has gone nuts with crayons for a week LML :-P and using back track draws a line back to the car, so that's a good thing at least :))) Cheers for your comment my friend :)

Cheers for the support my friend :)) The more accurate goes to the Fenix 5X Plus, which is the same to my Fenix 6Pro... as for value for features, well I have to say the Garmin Instinct, and that's coming from a G-Shock fan :) The GPR-B1000 is really a G-Shock that can track you and navigate you to a saved location without being connected to a device, it can also route you using the App, but it's more about an ABC functional watch with the additional GPS side. If you're looking for the best of a little of everything, the Instinct really does perform well... I have done a few more videos on the Instinct, but not towards the fitness side, but that's another point also about the Instinct, it has the HR sensor and tracks your steps and calories... it can also navigate as you've seen, basic but readable :)) Hope that helps you my friend :))

@@oje101 The police and customs love me, always have a good laugh, and they just stop me as they're probably bored... can be direct but anyone can see I'm just joking :)) I have a few camera's setup in the car, so isn't the regular for most :-P The one side with the GPR-B1000, it doesn't need updates, with regards to software... whereas on smart devices they will have an end point when they become too sluggish... I am also an Android user, but my daily driver is a 2014 Blackberry Passport which is for my calls and emails, the Android is for the social side, but compared to an iPhone, these were once simple, now they're just a complex pile of nonsense... I use Mac's for my editing as I don't need all the fuss from Windows, and I use an iPad, which is becoming sluggish, so may swap that for a Samsung tablet??? Simplicity is often the better, look how we still grab pen and paper these days LML :-P Any questions please feel free to ask, no matter how obvious it is, better to know than guess. I've owned my GPR-B1000 since 2018 and my Garmin's for about 2yrs, so know their tricks. If it's for current times, then smart devices, if you're looking over a much longer time scale, then G-Shock... the Instinct is still an amazing watch and I still would recommend it, the solar version seems to be an even bigger hit as the solar really does make a difference. The object with these watches is to keep you hands free, if you can use a handheld device like your phone, then maybe you don't need it as much as you think, and just buying it because it's entertainment on the wrist??? Navigating using a watch in a city is something I use a lot, just easier and safer from those phone jackers :-P Also nice to have a watch that can save your location, then later look on Google Maps for more details... with imagination you can take these watches as far as you need, but it can't do everything, so keeps your human abilities strengthened and alert :))

Buddy, once you're used to it, what you've said won't trouble you... nearing the target within 100mtrs isn't a huge distance, and looking on the map watching how your position icon matches over goal or way point shows it's close... look how close that white building was when it was matching on the map. As it's not a smart watch, it's set in stone, meaning it won't have updates, which is why the Rangeman is more stable than other GPS watches. It won't crash or become buggy, so there's this side to think about too. You said you have an Apple watch, and from the reviews I've seen, it seem it's like a smart phone with regards to having to update it every few years... so there is this side, when you want the latest, fastest then you have to compromise that it will need replacing... the Rangeman is made to last and outlive any GPS watch of its time. Look at the smart watch from CASIO ProTrek, seems it has peaked and the market isn't paying top money for them... and this is because updates eat into the running side making it bloated and sluggish. I have a Blackberry Passport phone... bought in 2014 and it's still going with 2 day battery life, and it's still as fast as day one... it still works, maybe not so many social media apps, but it works here on KZbin and Facebook, but what it does the best is being reliable, and that's the most important part... it's still does all what a smart phone can do, and emails on a physical keyboard can't be beaten. I guess the Rangeman is like pen and paper if that makes sense, basic, but does the job without the fuss.

I am assuming this doesn’t have to be done for when you select backtrack? I saw in the video that it shows you a straight line, so there is no need for multiple waypoints. But, could you set multiple waypoints on the watch without having to do it before hand on the phone? If so, can you then navigate to those waypoints that you made on the watch? Haha, sorry for the book long question. One more question, if you don’t mind. Is there a shortcut button that you can program to the timer function? I teach and this would be awesome. I used the time app so much on my Apple Watch. I am looking at getting back to simplicity. I hated the looks of the Apple Watch. I came from wearing a Nixon 51-30 for 7 years then I got the Apple Watch. I kept telling myself that the functionality won on the looks... The Rangeman is just like my Nixon. Just doesn’t have analog hands but it’s a proper watch. The Apple Watch is a small iPhone. I am an Apple guy, so I am not bashing the watch but it can’t compare with a real timepiece. Solar rocks! Sorry, big fan of your videos! Haha. God Bless!

Hey buddy... cheers for the support :) The waypoints on the Rangeman don't automatically progress to the next... this to my mind is that you don't miss one of the waypoints, as with the Fenix say you can very easily... If you're wanting to return to basics then think of the GPR-B1000 like pencil and paper, it's reliable and the one we reach for when in need to write something down quickly... the more technical a watch becomes the more involved it becomes, and when looking for something simple can become a headache to find... The GPR-B1000 is criticised by the smartwatch/Garmin users but as I'm both I get to see how they both perform... the Rangeman is basic, but does work to navigate you, and with 60 point memos this makes a great watch to have when tracking over longer distances... yeah it may not be step by step, but it can navigate over a very very long distance and time, both on foot and vehicle... the Fenix/Instinct have more details, but when there is no battery then you basically have a stone... when the GPS battery on the Rangeman ends, you still have a ABC G-Shock... but in full sunlight for an hour tops the Rangeman to be used again with GPS for up to another hour... there's pros and cons to both... but at the end of 2029 which watch will still be performing as a useful watch??? Back track on the Rangeman isn't breadcrumbs, it's a bearing compass on your original start... this is actually the most basic feature but the better, as it'll point back in a straight line... now if you say went to a new city, parked your car and then went shopping with your wife say, then after a days shopping you need to return back to your car which you have no idea... well with the Garmin it'll route you back to every shop again, good news for your wife, but bad for your wallet again LML :-P But with the Rangeman it'll boycott the shops upon backtrack, so really you'll save yourself twenty Rangeman's if you did buy the GPR-B1000 LML :-P It's obvious in my title it's not WatchUP69 Mr Fenix, so guess you now know the real reason :) Simplicity is always the best way :) Cheers for your comment my friend :))

WatchUP69 Mr Rangeman This is such a thorough and well thought out response. Thank you so much! Gives me more peace of mind that I am making the right choice. You mentioned the point memos. I take it these are waypoints that you can hit while out and about? Also, I love that the navigation is a basic arrow and that makes a lot more sense on not over shooting your waypoints. Thank you again!!!

@@StevenSmith1219 When walking over rough ground, or when it's stormy, or when travelling by bike, as map is pretty much pointless as you'll need to stop, quick glance down seeing a big arrow with all you need works better... but the Fenix 6 Pro which I currently have does have that map in colour feature... but hey, it's not about the flashy side, it's about the muscle :) Now the point memos are for you to remember a location, which shows the coordinates, altitude, temp, time, date, barometer pressure and you have 24 icons to save with it... this will be stored in the watch, and once you reach 60 the 61st will replace the oldest if that makes sense... now this will be transferred to the app and used as reference or to be used as either a start or goal. Now this is an option and sometimes I use it too. If I'm off for an open hike or walk I just start the GPR-B1000 GPS so it tracks me... the reason is that when you have a connection it's quicker to save point memos as the GPS doesn't need to start from scratch, and also the altimeter will be accurate as it won't be using the sensor which isn't the most accurate as it uses air pressure, which is better for weather predictions... without stopping the GPS, you can set a goal using one of those saved waypoints in the watch, now it's a little crude from looking at the list, but it does show time and date so you can at least work from there, maybe take a note... but this means you could use 60 point memos as waypoints... it's one of those watches that becomes better with some imagination... like seen in our mini Rangeman movies, they all have a point of use :))

WatchUP69 Mr Rangeman thank you thank you thank you! I am getting pretty excited for the watch! I would like to get a Fenix, but the solar of the Rangeman and the nuclear proof housing makes it a winner. I know there is now a solar version of the Fenix. Not sure how well that works. Casico has been using solar for years. Also, the Fenix doesn’t have a sapphire and solar combo!!! If your watch doesn’t have sapphire, it will break eventually... don’t ask me how I know. Hahah

@@StevenSmith1219 I've heard that the solar on the Fenix isn't something that makes it a deal breaker, so am not sure how well it performs... maybe a gimmick to attract attention? Personally for that type of watch it'll need a power pack if you're packing up for two or more days... now with regards to sapphire the Master of G's have their own hardened sapphire, as of yet I've not heard anyone breaking theirs... now unlike smart phones and tablets those screens are larger thus more prone to bending and finally cracking, and they can't use sapphire as it'll make them too heavy, don't think it's the expense side as sapphire for these uses are all man made... so for a watch with a small area it'll need a very hard knock to break them, the flex in the sapphire would be so small that you really need to be unlucky... but if sapphire does break it'll shatter, as with mineral and gorilla it's crack and remain whole... so there's a 50/50 for both to which is the best... sapphire is harder and much less prone to scratches... but as most of my G-Shocks are with mineral glass and so far none have cracked, then it's not a worry... I have done a repair on my GW-9400 using glass repairing glue which has worked a treat to remove a scratch :) Maybe in another video I could show that :)

Hey buddy... I'm using either my iPad mini or my iPhone 5S which run ok... Now hitting create to me means the G-Shock Connected app, as there is the Garmin so took a guess. Make sure your iPhone is up to date, that the App is the latest and that your phone isn't full with all my videos for an example. There's nothing on the watch that needs doing. If my iPhone 5S can run the app, I'm sure with your latest version of iOS on the 7 it should be a doddle to run... Maybe a reboot of your phone once everything is up to date, that clears the memory a little. Hope that helps

@@rianredemption87 I've just bought a new Android phone from Banggood... it's the Note 9Pro from Redmi and my word it's not only cheap, it's fast... I've long moved away from the hype, and these phones are up against the big names... the iPhone 5S was my last Apple phone, but I use Macs as my computers, especially for my movies and picture editing. Might be a good idea once you've deleted all those unwanted videos and the sort and got your phone up with storage space, I would make a backup to your PC and then hard wipe it... then set it up using your saved backup, this will free up all that 'OTHER' which you'll always find in the memory... there's a few videos how to if you're not sure, but I do this every time I have an update on my iPad, and it always works faster after.

@@panjiwira2733 Being honest and being that I'm now in the darker winter months, the Fenix... I can add alarms for example in low lighting or dark, without that annoying 3sec max limit from Casio, it has all you'll need without all that extra fuss like with many smart watches like Samsung... fantastic when used at night in central London finding locations, or points of interest... it's more of an everyday watch too..., the Instinct is also amazing, and the GPR is a big watch, and to me, more about being in a harsher place with no modern cons... the Fenix is a perfect all rounder, but remember, the GPR will out live them all, mainly as it's not a smart watch in need of software updates.

Looking at the reviews on the solar I have to say I've not been that impressed... these types of smart GPS watches really need a battery pack on standby, as their LiPo batteries need a lot of power to charge them, and solar on that scale is really pointless... thus why the Rangeman uses Lithium.

All GPS triangulates so it’s not going to show your exact spot and can only get you estimates, and there’s interference like trees and buildings that affect the accuracy
@WatchUP69MrRangeman
@WatchUP69MrRangeman 2 жыл бұрын
With the new masts being installed, these don't need three to know your location, just one of them can locate you, and with GEO reference it should have your altitude too... it's within a few meters, but trees and tall buildings can effect the signal, and if near certain airports like military, you might not even get a signal at all... I've had a few comments with their GPS watches not working at all, and they are in wide open spaces, so this just proves it's all down to antennas and masts, and not flying objects overhead in space :-P A compass and map will always win my friend, plus wisdom of course :))

@@Jackawings I'm not familiar with the either of the WSD's and have only those who use them to configure what they are like. I hear mixed feelings with the F30, some say it's amazing while other complain about the battery performance and build. I haven't gone into any detailing to their specifications so don't really know what the software is, and as I haven't held one I can't give you that side either. I like the look, but I'm not a fan of touch screen on a small display, as I know from other derives I own that are touch screen yet water proof aren't good when wet. I made my choice with Garmin's when it comes to these types of GPS watches, and so far I really don't have any negatives with them. I buy my watches myself, and add them to my collection, and when their time comes then I flip for another... but at this moment I have no intentions to buy into the WSD. I'm not a channel that reviews the latest when it comes out, I'm someone who enjoys what I own... if I own it and it's stays then it's good and I review it with full detailing... I like to review the new G-Squads as this looks promising, but it's not a watch I need, so am looking to borrow if that happens, and I will show exactly how it performs to it's means... I like value and I like a watch to be strong on the resale market, so when sales drop by half it worries me... and if the F20 is at that price then that tells me it hasn't been popular, and why is that? If you're enjoying it why look for an upgrade to the F30? Also, what is the future with smart watches and CASIO in general?

The rangeman is deffently not made for small walks. Its made for more directional help in use with a Map. For a navigation help type of GPS use. And meaby not Street navigation. Not making it worse just different. The rangeman is surely more to people that have some navigation skill and that sense of landscape in contrast to a Map.

I totally agree with you... it is for the greater distance over a much longer period. At the moment Garmin's app isn't working, they got hacked so have shut everything down... so for anyone moaning about how the Rangeman is so overpriced and not as good, well it's times like this when having a solid performer works best... third parties are known to let you down! I feel many just think these watches do everything, but anything can fail, so having map and compass is the one thing that helps the most, but also having a good instinct to navigate is the best form of skill :) Thanks for your comment :)

...and the solar panel so large :) Yeah, small is beautiful, but it doesn't need to show HD full colour pictures of Tinder pics... it's a good enough size and no complaints from me... yeah my Fenix 6 Pro is bigger but that uses maps in detailing, the Rangeman is a basic survival buddy, and maybe the new gun will have a bigger screen, but it's ample enough, especially when it lasts for a huge amount of time. Also when increasing size you're also increasing power consumption, and one of the main goals for the Rangeman is the battery reserve, there's nothing that can beat it on GPS endurance!
