I sold my rangeman because I couldn't really see anything in the small circle LCD. And I've always been annoyed that it is very hard to do anything in the dark apart from checking the time. Fantastic mods! This brings up usability to a whole new level!

Cheers buddy. It wasn't till I had the backing off the LCD glass that made me think what else could I use instead of a mirror backing... well my imagination took to doing something different, but later found it has been done before, but at least I found it on my own :) Makes a massive difference... but that sub-dial was the part that was bugging me the most... it's perfect now, and as you've seen it shows it all without doubt :) Cheers again :)

I can't believe that a few have already done the lume mod... but the removal of the lines on the glass is too me the winner... really nice to see the LCD marker/s now through the modes... since I first got the GW-9400 those lines in the sub-dial have been worrying me, as when I use the compass set bearing, it's not easy to read that single LCD line... I'm also surprised no one has mentioned this in the tutorials on the Rangeman in greater details... so am glad my video is being shared, as I'm getting a few comments saying they didn't know, and for some who've had the watch for a long time, must make it feel like a new watch :)) Cheer, and I hope CASIO are writing a book, not just notes LML :-P

The luminous sheet is a great idea. Switching between pos/neg screen is cool, but I think Casio should produce more positive models. I don't understand why they don't give the option of switching between pos /neg in new models using LCD MIP.

Hey buddy, just seen your comment! I've got some luminous paint coming which is said to be like superluminova :)) So if it's that good I'll do an update... I was thinking of the MIP too, but not sure if the common LCD will remain... the MIP is still relatively new, while the LCD has been around much longer and has proven itself. I have no idea with the options of negative and positive within the G-Shock series, they didn't think about it with the new MIP... Garmin have done it! It's risky to do as the glass is very thin, but as long as your mind careful you can do it. Have got a very strong lume on test at the moment, but in the meanwhile I've lost two of the tiny contact springs for the LED's! I might use another LED and solder paste it to the board?? I watched a few videos, one being from G-Shock highfashion which helped the most... the module itself is very sturdy, the only part is the tiny contact springs for the LED lights.... but getting the polarised film off does take a steady hand for sure... it's more about time and not rushing anything. I enjoy things like this... but my main goal was to get rid of those fine printed lines on the sub-dial, as they just obscure the LCD lines... makes no sense what they did... I feel it's perfect and makes me happier, as that sub-dial is very useful as you've seen. Glad it's a first on that side... the lume is a massive improvement :))

@WatchUP69MrRangeman
@WatchUP69MrRangeman 3 жыл бұрын
Good question... 3410 is the module used and has been since 2013... the actual module may use different numbers as this is reflected on the display colours the most, but the sensors are all the same... it was an update to the G-9300 module using faster sensors, as the compass on the G-9300 runs for 20secs while the GW-9400 runs for a whole minute at a time just as one example. Still a great capable watch, but does show the age compared to my GG-B100 which is lightening quick, bigger buttons and has a backlight like a torch, but that's a hybrid whereas the GW-9400 is fully stand alone :))

Worth trying first before removing any of the polarised film... the back is mirrored but transparent, so might work, but if you're wanting to remove the lines, then the back polarised film needs removing. I am wondering if the inner chapter ring could be done in lume, and if that would give enough glow to see the LCD display, there was a post on G-Shock Collectors WORLDWIDE facebook group with a GW-9400 glowing with the inside edge of the bezel... I have got a jelly bezel, and added lume on the inside, but that was just for an effect, and didn't glow the display.

Hello Mr. Rangeman I am thinking of buying a GW-9400, was in love with the negative display, however I saw on the Internet that it isn't really visible in the Dark. So I went back to to positive when I saw your video. I really like what you did with the subtiel, did you make a how-to-do-that-video? Since I saw your other video about the black-out watch, I am thinking of a negative display again. How is the visibility of the subdial in the negative without the (black)Light?
@WatchUP69MrRangeman
@WatchUP69MrRangeman 2 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy, In all honesty, the blackout GW-9400 is more show than being functional... the display is dark, and you would need the backlight to view, even when in doors during the day... but for looks it's very stealthy.... for me, if you are using it as intended, then you'll find the dark negative display frustrating... so stick with a positive. There isn't many negative displays I could say are good, only the GPR and similar that share the MIP display, otherwise they're a struggle in low lighting ;-P Hope that helps my friend ;)

@WatchUP69MrRangeman
@WatchUP69MrRangeman 2 жыл бұрын
@@mennoderoos1283 Removing the lines from the sub-dial is quite time consuming, as you'll need to remove the polorized film on the back of the LCD display, and the LCD glass is fine, and if you break it, you won't find a replacement, unless using a donor watch. Maybe someone from the G-Shock Collectors Worldwide could help, but haven't seen another modded the same way, and that's probably down the the side, that it's a huge risk. I don't know why CASIO don't have it like the sub-dial used on the GWF-D1000, as that has no lines, and works beautifully. Noticed that prices on the GW-9400 are going up, even with the olive green negative display version.

Maybe a colour change on the LCD, there's plenty I've seen that look really cool. Maybe ask for modded GW-9400's, and get ideas there... but getting a price to how much is better from someone who does it more day to day. Well you hear stories of lugs breaking on these GW-9400's, what they don't say is that the strap is part of the strength, and using adaptors it's taking that away, so when they break, they go running off to try and get CASIO to help... but CASIO know... but if you're using them lightly, then a NATO would be ok.... now to make this happen is quite tricky, my issue now, is that my backlight isn't working down to losing two tiny tiny contact springs, and these are very fine, and CASIO don't do parts! The glow is nice, but not for the whole night through, probably good for two hours, but having a backlight would make it perfect perfect :) Removing the lines is the hardest part, not seen anyone do this, and a good reason, it's a 50/50 to breaking the LCD panel, as you need to remove the back filter as well, and now the glass is more exposed to breaking when removing the lines. It's a risk my friend, but if you want to add lume only, then this is easier... just don't lose those LED springs, they are so small :-P

Great mod - yes I've seen many do it with luminous tape but like you said, most offering aren't super bright and they fade quickly. The day someone manufactures C3 lume sheets I'll definitely be modding one of my squares to do this. Just a 5sec blast from my pocket torch and it's enough to get you though setting s few mods. Just needs a little more strength to last longer in the night. It does feel odd adjusting the alarm with that lume glowing, much like my TIMEX that continues to glow when pressing buttons... the lume feels like the backlight, the camera isn't showing the full brightness, so wasn't the easiest to film. Well, i'm just happy that you my friend have found another side to the GW-9400 :) I love that when it happens, it's like finding a new feature in the car you've been driving for 16yrs, makes it feel like a new toy again :) Those thin printed lines to me are like speed humps on a lovely smooth road, makes no sense at all :-P Everything inside feels premium, and nothing can break easily, just have to be careful with getting fluff inside... Hey buddy... it's still in the prototype stage... the original reflective backing I removed is translucent slightly, as this allows the saturation of the backlight, and the luminous sticker I used isn't, so the backlight isn't spreading the light across evenly, so am looking for anther way... but am really looking for that superluminova backing that lasts a very long time. I think if the lume is strong enough, you could just slip it behind the LCD panel... but if you want to remove the lines then it's going much further. I mean, I’ve used the clear drying spray paint before. Also, it might be beyond “hand tools” level of work, but I imagine there has to be somewhere to source a uv led the same size and spec as the factory unit, so the led wouldn’t actually light up the display so much as charge the glow layer to light the display...

@@WatchUP69MrRangeman I had thought of that a few years back while watching the Vostok Europe and Traser watches being demoed on Ideal World. The chap would whip out a UV light to make the H3 tritium really pop but as soon as the UV was turned off the tritium didn't half dim, or maybe that's just how it looked on the TV. I thought that if you had a solar powered watch then getting daily sunlight should charge up a secondary small battery just for the purpose of using a UV light placed at either side just for brightening the tritium and or lume. Just for an update on my mudmaster GWG -1000 -1a3 , I’ve purchased an original black band and changed it for the olive green one that it comes with as standard. I love my gwg 1000 i wear it nearly every day I love it. 2 issues I have though.. the altimeter is poor, reset it and by the best day it’s out by a good hundred feet. Also the temp is only accurate if it’s left off your wrist. Those are my only 2 cons.
@WatchUP69MrRangeman
@WatchUP69MrRangeman 3 жыл бұрын
Cheers buddy :) One thing to know about the Altimeter, it shares the same sensor as the Barometer, but unlike the Barometer where this displays air pressure, the Altimeter will be effected even by weather, so will need calibration each time, it's just how the Altimeter's are, there's nothing wrong with it :)) The GPR-B1000 can use the GPS, so gets the more accurate readings, as it's using geo location and not air pressure... so if you're wanting more accuracy, then air pressure is only good when the weather is stable the most. Temp sensor will read your body heat, there isn't a sensor that won't... unless in water, so will need to be removed of the wrist, this goes for all watches with temps, even my Garmin's have to be removed off the wrist and left to settle for 20-30mins. Hope that helps :)

@WatchUP69MrRangeman 4 жыл бұрын
As far as I’m aware, the standard of G-Shocks are tested in batches to 200m in a statistical position... buttons are also tested at shallow depths which could be less than one metre. Apparently the standard G-Shocks are more than likely capable of diver depths, but to test them all would add to the cost of each watch. Only Diver’s Frogman’s are individually tested to an iSO rating which exceeds 200m. In general, a G-Shock is very unlikely to be at that depth of 200m, but with that level of tolerance, means that all G-Shocks are safe for all day swimming and most water activities including diving and snorkelling. Remember if wearing your G-Shock on a jet ski for an example and you hit the water hard, this could equally be as a depth near to 200m. Watch depths do vary, as 30m is splash proof and not for swimming, 50m is submerging the watch in shallow waters, 100m means light swimming and 150m and over considered as diver’s.

You can remove the print on the sub-dial only if you prefer, but decided that a clean display matches better to my eyes. I did mention this idea to you, so am pleased it turned out well... I will improve it further with more experimental ideas. Backlight doesn't work if the alarm is going off, wonder if that's the same on yours? Needs good timing to find out LML :-P I'm really liking the clarity of the sub-dial now... and yes, the WT is really useful, especially as I have contacts in China and Australia :)

Hi, would you go with the rangeman 9400, mudmaster gg1000, or mud master gsg100

Hey buddy... now I could tell you what I would choose but that's for me, and this is about you, so let me try and help you with the following... Your needs I'm guessing is having a practical tactile watch... now I need to cover the functions. They are all a little different, but two of them are ani-digi so are you more towards the analog side? The GG-1000 isn't solar and uses two sensors for compass and temperature. The GSG-100 is solar but has no sensors. The GW-9400 is solar and has three sensors (ABC) plus temperature, but is all digital. Just as an idea from what you've told me... the GWG-1000 Mud Master has everything you need. Has ani-digi and covers all the sensors with Altimeter, Barometer, Compass and Temperature... it's mud resist, solar powered and uses a toughened sapphire crystal. There are some good deals on the secondary market that are close to the GG-1000... so maybe with a little wait with saving this could be the ultimate choice for you. My opinion which I'm sure you are wanting to know... The GW-9400 is iconic because it's a proven G-Shock... It has it all and is the most intuitive I've used and for the money it's a good choice and one I would recommend highly. Now the GG-1000 isn't solar and it's main focus is on the compass side... it's one of those G-Shocks that is more upon looks the most, as it does look nice, but functions wise if you don't use the compass is just a standard G-Shock. The G-9300 Mudman is the digital version, and to me this is more practical as it uses solar, and the GW-9300 version uses MB6. The GSG-100 is basically a first gen G-Steel with the standard G-Shock functions apart from a few quirks like hand hold, but the small sub-dials might be a little too small, as pictures can be misleading. The icons for alarm and LT for an example aren't in the same place, so can get confusing. The GW-9400 Rangeman has all this at the bottom, keeping it neat on the eye. Now if you like the functions of ABC and really want that ani-digi then I would really look towards the GWG-1000 Mudmaster as this has has everything from above... it's also MB6. I hope I've been some help... but it's about your needs and what you want from it. Practical is the GW-9400 hands down... for looks then the GWG-1000 or GG-1000 Note, the GSG-100 is the only one that doesn't have a crown/button so maybe that's something you like, especially for an analog style.

@@WatchUP69MrRangeman you are the best, thanks so much. I love the 9400, had one and miss it, just a great watch. Love the looks of mud master as well. The gwg1000 is awesome, probably my top choice, but seems much more expensive. Where have you seen it on the secondary market, and about how much?

@@billscully2521 GG-B100 is very cool... it uses the Bluetooth side quite well... not solar, but has a good enough battery reserve for 2yrs. That’s a good choice, plus it counts steps and the module can be adjusted to your needs ;)

I removed the LCD panel and split the polarised film off the back which has the reflective film attached... then scraped off the lines on the glass... then instead of using reflective backing, I chose the luminous film instead, then attached a new polarised film to complete what you see :)

I'm struggling on mine let alone doing it on another :-P It takes a lot of patience to get to the backing, and the glass is so thin too, so there's a fine balance how far you can press on the glass... and after all that excitement I found it has been done before... yeah, my levels were on fire thinking it's a first LML :-P But hey, at least my clean dial is a first :)
