I’m sure by this point you understand that this mod has a very valid purpose. And that is legibility from different angles and especially legibility under water.

Ideally the point of filling a watch with oil should make it more water resistant as well as make the face more visible from different angles especially under water.

In my experience filling any analog watch with oil just breaks it, at least with cheap watches, obviously there are more expensive watches that are designed to be oil filled. For cheap watches like a timex I would recommend just sticking with digital

Looking for a cheap quartz analong watch with a screw down crown? Try the Casio Duro MDV-106. $70 MSRP, but you can find it for less. Bought mine for $50 off Amazon. I've heard of cheaper prices elsewhere. There's even a few threads on Reddit talking about filling it with oil.

Try it with a Casio SGW500H .. Analog with a digital display, pushers but no crown👍🏻

Question. I have tried this on 2 watches. The first was bubble free but after pressing buttons it started freaking out, then died. (Timex Grid Shock) Then, I just tried it on a Skmei watch I have with a large window and full camo. I got a nice bubble in this one. But....after pressing the light button a few times, and other buttons....all the buttons stopped functioning. It's stuck on on display and I cannot change anything. What am I doing wrong here?

Since oil is non conductive, is it possible that the contacts on the movement and the buttons are covered in non conductive oil and therefore not creating the needed connection?

Im thinking of doing a hydro mod on a negative display digital watch to improve the visibility and clarity. Do you think it will help?

Yes! I did it on a Casio g-shock GA2100 triple black and the the negative display really pops. I use DOT 5 silicone brake fluid for all my hydro mods with zero issues.

@anong345 Yes, perfectly with no leaks. The only issue I had when I first filled it was the rubber backing diaphram swelling up, so I just cut it down slightly to fit again.

Heh, yeah... sorry, put me in the "this is goofy" camp. The bubbles would drive me insane, it interferes with the light, and... have fun replacing the battery! I get that there can be benefits to having an oil-filled watch, but this is like putting racing stripes and a spoiler on a station wagon. I know, I know... cheap watch, who cares. But $20 is still $20.
