@getsideways72574 жыл бұрын
It's generally pretty difficult to fly a helicopter AND do stuff at the same time. Unlike in a plane, you usually have to have both of your hands on the cyclic and the collective all the time. Also, that's why usually the pilot occupies the right seat in a side-by-side seating arrangement. Of course, there are things like SAS, AP, force trim and so on that help with that, but in its essence a helicopter requires more focus while flying.
@paristo3 жыл бұрын
@@haramaschabrasir8662 But HOKUM has excellent autopilot systems to fly you hands free in all expect a rocket strafe. And when you have eyes outside, you are mainly using rockets, gun in HMS aiming mode or just searching air threats for R-73/IGLA-V. It is sad that we don't have proper contrast detection system in DCS as you could lock air threats with HMS as it will symbolize when you get a lock-on with Shkval - that would do so very effectively against such strong contrasts as you don't need to do more than have largest targeting gate and 7x or 23x depending distance to get target inside Shkval screen and system lock-on. Then just keep target inside Shkval gimbal limits. Now it is impossible as Shkval is not contrast based and you can't lock a aircraft even if it would be perfectly filling Shkval gate etc. In the state trials and combat tests it was confirmed that KA-50 was less demanding to fly and operate in combat than a single seater fighters. Why you don't need a second pilot/gunner to perform duties. But KA-50 couldn't enter to any export trials because every country required two-pilot attack helicopter. Why Kamov developed KA-50-2 for export use. The KA-52 was simultaneously developed with KA-50 but it was meant to be flight leader, with A-G radar, A-A radar and squadron leader designating targets for each KA-50 in flight. So 4+1 ratio where Sharks hunts and kills, while Alligator designates targets and control the group formation. That was more demanding as flight commander was to communicate with ground forces, the air defense HQ, nearby CAS planes and with flight itself. KA-50 is very capable with good group, but it suffers from DCS lack of datalink to HQ and proper communications with rest of the forces.

I remember during Bright Star in 1997 that the Egyptians were having big issues with breaking strap packs on their Apaches and were constantly replacing them(it's neither cheap nor easy because the whole head has to be taken apart to get just one out), and came to find out they were taxiing at ground idle requiring more collective input to get the required lift on the blades and this was over stressing the strap packs. I never did understand what they were thinking to accomplish with such a uninformed taxi method. I mean you could see it on the taxi, too, the cone angle on theirs were nuts compared to ours and it was like you were looking at the whole cordwise span of the blade while they were taxiing. If they had full power and did that the could quite possible "egg-beater" the blades, though I still think that is just an urban legend as in my years as a mechanic(both in and out) I have never seen it happen, though, in Kuwait during Desert Thunder I did see an 58D with two guys that were over 230 pounds take-off. It looked like those blades would egg-beater too, and it was funny because it kind bounded into the air like "booiiiinnng", and we thought for sure it was going to pancake.

I'm speaking from the position of a simulation user, concerned about the lack of depth, diversity, and replay value in a module with such a narrow, fixed loadout when everything else in DCS has literal pages worth of various munitions, when said module will no doubt be the standard $60-$80+ that the much more diverse other airframes are charging.

@CasmoTV4 жыл бұрын
Take a look in the manual and see what it says. The problem with the Apache is it went though so many changes it’s hard to pin things down to a certain day “things looked like X”. Plus I was flying kiowas in 06 so I’m only going off talking to people who did and what’s in the manual. I could be wrong tho. 🤷🏻♂️
@DaemonPhobos3 жыл бұрын
The world is small, I just asked the same, problem is that without that CMDS program select switch there would be no other way to drop flares without setting the CMWS to bypass mode with CMWS control panel, except for automatic dispense upon missile launch detection. Besides ED modeled the WPN page without the Flare counters above the chaff. I think I seen one Apache cockpit that didn't had the CMDS switch but had a CMWS CIU panel installed, so I'm not sure yet about it's implementation.

0:21 I see you have gotten used to community standards rather quickly. 2:40 So I'm not the only one who uses Cruise rarely or not at all (as a Longbow Gold virtual pilot so far :D) 3:46 Actually there is a reason. There's actually one thing you press which is some kind of cover. If you flip it up it's on top of the weapon release button and triggers that and the gun trigger button is recessed so you can't accidently squeeze it. If you flip the cover down, it acts as the trigger you pull that pushes the actual trigger button in. You can see that in DCS when switching to cannon IIRC. The Bf-109 and FW-190 have a similar stick concept BTW. So basically having 2 different buttons in DCS is a DCS thing.

Ohh, come on, BUCS isn't that difficult... Just start with the primary and utility (backup) hydraulic systems feeding 4 individual servos at 3000psi. Each servo has an internal RAM LVDT and each Pilot and CPG flight controls (long, lat, col, and dir) have there own LVDT for positioning. As well as the Pilot col potentiometer that is partnered with the LDS (engines). Now, if your flying along and a control is stuck (Pilot or CPG overpacked their lunch or someone forgot the 2" wrench on the R/TRU), either the controls ARDDs will roll out, the servo shear pin breaks, or both, the aircraft goes to a fly-by-wire based off of the positions the LVDTs are feeding into the FMC. *Also, as a side note, releasing the trim will also release the pedals and not just the cyclic. Massive thanks for the vid, I was floored the first time I saw the Apache collective. Good to know there's a good reason for the weirdness. =) Is the trigger system on the Ka-50 is that weird, don't most US combat aircraft (fighters and attack planes at least...) have separate triggers and weapon release buttons? And having a flip down trigger for weapon release, like many Russian planes seem to have, makes some sense to me as an additional safety, at least you won't pull it by accident when it's up.

What would be the point for having two buttons do the same thing? I guess that’s my point. If I can only action one weapon at a time... why have two buttons fire? Flying with new CPG is gonna be like. -What the hell have you done to the engines, they are at damn IDLE! Have you pressed the CHOP button? -Yeah, but the katana is still there in the cockpit, something went wrong. -Katana? -I'm a Japaneese guy, i thought that when i press the CHOP button it will release the katana from the holder and drop it like bomb on taliban's head. Wanted to chop him! But anyway, we just descended right on him and the rotor blade cut off hes head, so at least we haven't wasted my katana. -We have wasted the whole helo!

Boy can't wait to crash a multimillion dollar heli into the ground before I even take off lol. Great video! How did you become a pilot? Did you become an OC or an aviation warrant officer?
