Couple things. 1. I will admit the Casper movie has a special place in my heart, for nostalgic reasons. When the movie came out I was about 5-6 years old and it was one of the first family movies I remember seeing it so while I know the movie isn't great I can't help but have a certain love for it. 2. That ending sequence running to chase Casper not just in a Ghostbusters costume but also having fans chase after him with you was just a lovely thing to see.

@brandonspain123459 ай бұрын
Christina Ricci later had negative distain towards the movie in later years as she didn't want to work on anymore kids movies. Claiming the plot didn't make sense that she's in love with a ghost who never ages and is a cartoon. Even recently, she felt her performance in the movie was terrible. One of the reasons why we didn't and never will get a sequel with her in it. Thanks, Ricci... Also, Russell Harvey, CEO to Casper's distributiors, Harvey Comics, hated the movie for too dark with un-child friendly humor. (According to the director, the line "There's a girl in my bed. Yes!" Offend the Harvey family, and felt it was out of character for him to say.) He also disliked the backstory as he felt it was dark and pointless to give to a character that was so innocent to many. (Even though in the 40s, Casper tried commiting suicide because he hated his life as a ghost and wanted to forget he's dead before realizing he's already dead.) This led Harvey Entertainment to buy the movie rights to Casper away to 20th Century Fox where they made two direct to video reboots for Power Ranger's Saban Entertainment. But in 1999, Universal and Amblin still had the rights to their Casper and could make a proper sequel with Balto and Prince of Egypt director, Simon Wells, to wrote and direct with or without Ricci and Bill Pullman. But because of the poor reviews and underwhelming video sales for the direct to video movies, Universal lost confidence on a sequel or another live action Casper movie ever since. (Although back in 2022, it was announced Peacock is developing a Casper TV series that's said to be inspired by Riverdale (🤢) with a darker, grittier approach, and a teen Casper falling in love with a girl in high school much like the original movie. (Why does every Casper adaptation has to give him a love interest? Why can't he just be a "friendly" ghost and not the "flirty" ghost?)
@oooh199 ай бұрын
I liked the “dark” humor and for us 90s children it wasn’t too dark. Ugh nowadays people just find fault with everything

Also why would she hate the movie? She WAS a kid why would she be bothered about being associated with it? Though it WAS weird the popular kids’ prank seems like no one would even do in real life
@brandonspain123459 ай бұрын
@@oooh19 Exactly. It was a good balance. Regardless if you found the jokes funny or not, you can't deny they're at least used sparingly. The emotional themes are still strong and still has good weight on the deep and mature stuff. Mainly with Casper as a character halfway in the film. (It's very reminiscent of the 40s era Casper shorts.)
@brandonspain123459 ай бұрын
@@oooh19 I think it's because she got the part for Kat Harvey in 1993 after finishing Addams Family Values and figured "I could do this next one." But after finishing Casper, she moved on to more mature roles and more adult originated movies. Maybe being a teen through her 20s made her very bitter towards her youthful self.
