So I got a question I got a 55 gallon that I’m turning into a saltwater tank and a 12 gallon that I’m turning into a sump my overflow box rates at a 150 gallons and my return pump is 750 gallons per hour. Do you think that’ll work out or should I go less or higher on the pump?

Amazingly I built my sump the same way you did but with one less baffle....wish I had seen yours before I built. Your build went much more smoother and much more cleaner. I built my baffles at 11 inches...don’t know why....just did. Hope that isn’t too high...guess I’ll find out when I test the system. Looking for soft tubing at Lowe’s to fit my pumps and fittings. They have a limited selection, gonna check Home Depot next. Just found some egg crate pieces for the media section. Hope to have it up and cycling by X-mas. Great channel my friend....keep the video’s coming and give us updates. Reef on 😎

Thanks a lot man!! Your design sounds good! Put a check valve on you system so you don't have to worry about sump overflow when the power goes out. And you can also find a lot of different soft tubing sizes from most local fish stores also.

I noticed the 9” inch middle buffle” is pretty short. Would it be convenient to make those buffle panels taller so that the sump could hold more water? Assuming, the tank is filled up to top and has a tall or hanging protein skimmer.
@EagleAquatics2 жыл бұрын
You can yes and I should have so it heald more water.

Are the heights of the baffles critical and can you give some of the dimensions?
@EagleAquatics3 жыл бұрын
Heights arent critical, dont have dimensions.

Thumbs up, sub'd! Nice work there and you used acrylic baffles. It makes you wonder about what some people say. Can't knock it till you try it 'sometimes'.

I love the acrylic it is still doing great almost 2 years later.

Ok so I just got a 90 gallon aquarium and this will be my first salt water aquarium. Should I get a protein sump system or can I just use a canister????
@EagleAquatics3 жыл бұрын
I would highly recommend a sump system with a protein skimmer yes, way more effective and easier to maintain. Im personally not a fan of canister filters.

Were the baffles you made all 9 inches tall? And what length did you choose? And what thickness did you get? Going to Menards tomorrow... I also have a 40 gallon breeder for my new 125.
@EagleAquatics5 жыл бұрын
All the baffles are 9 inches tall, yes, I chose to use 1/4" acrylic and its working great. I got a big sheet from menards, it was like $50. They are cut as wide as the sump and siliconed in place. I used hot glue to hold it in place as I siliconed.

Hey, i have a 55 gallon and i would like to use it as a sump but i am worried it will too tall and narrow. I dont really want to spend money on a 40b when i have this tank but if i have to i will. Any opinions?
@EagleAquatics5 жыл бұрын
Lots of people use 55 gallons as sump without a problem. If you can access it easy from the top I cant see a problem with using it as a sump, the bigger the sump the more possibilities.

Is this a terrarium 40 gal tank or one for aquariums? How did you find it for only $7? Everything I'm looking at that are aquarium-rated are $100+.
@EagleAquatics4 жыл бұрын
This is a 40 gallon fish tank aquarium. From petsmart they should be around $75 or so from what i've seen. I think I paid $70 for it.

I always see people say not to use acrylic baffles on a glass sump because the silicone supposedly won't hold them together. How have they been holding up for you? Any leaks or other points of concern?
@EagleAquatics4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely none. The silicone has done an excellent job of holding them up and together, even after 2 years.

when cutting the glass for the sump, do you cut it 1/4" short for the width or 1/4" short for each side?
@EagleAquatics4 жыл бұрын
Nah We cut it almost exact so it just fits in between both side of the tank and then silicone the gaps.
