Great video. FYI, always pull your tape immediately after you lay the bead. Much easier. Also, I’ve found that the tight inside baffles really only need one bead of silicone. A sump is a low flow tank and as long as the glass is clean- one bead of silicone is all you need. I do the most inner baffle first and work my way out. Saves a lot of headache.

I been doing just the outside beads on the bubble trap baffles for ever, works just fine especially since there isn't any pressure to hold but even when tank is full it's just fine

Cleanest 40g breeder sump I’ve seen. Nice work man

You just changed the game when it comes to building a sump AND using silicone! The mini hockey stick is awesome! I feel like 40 breeders are manufactured specifically for sumps!

Abe, great video bro. If you peel the tape before the silicone drys...it’s very easy to remove and produces very clean lines. Painters tape with “edge lock” is by far the best. Best of luck on the next sump build!

Hi Abe top quality job on the sump looking forward to the rest of the 140 build

Wow! I am amazed! That was very high quality end product with minimum investment. I admire people like you as myself often if I have time I do like to create something from almost nothing ... respect to your creativity. And those tools for moulding and razor. You did very well!

When they cut the glass for you have them round the corners of bottoms of the baffles, or if cutting yourself just do it then. It makes the fit so much cleaner and allows a little extra room for silicone without worrying about damaging the tanks

Nice beer choice, love the chopstick tools, great idea. I think I would have drilled it firth through, would suck to crack the tank after finishing. Great build video.
@CoralEuphoria6 жыл бұрын
Yeah better in that order. I drilled the hole yesterday. There are a few chips, but it will work. "It's functional and it won't leak" is the nicest way I could describe it lol. For how long I've been in the hobby I should have a drill press by now. I think it would cut down on the chipping.

Aloha from Maui!...one suggestion, is to show the final project by testing it with water in it, so we see that it works. Mahalos and aloha from MauiWaui!

Just wanted to say the GE silicone can definitely be used to build aquariums. I’ve built a 180 gallon 6x2x2 with this silicone and it has been running for 2 years.

Also after laying down a bead of silicone remove the tape immediately to avoid it being siliconed to the glass
@brothergas12603 жыл бұрын
U can pull the tape while silicone is still wet just be careful to pull it away so u don’t ruin your nice bead and saves time cutting

When I built mine I clipped the bottom corners so I wouldn’t compromise the silicone seal on bottom 🤭

Instead of cutting the silicone on the tank for the baffles to sit flush with the bottom, a better way is to have the bottom corners of the baffles clipped.
@jonrenny31073 жыл бұрын
Cutting the silicone to make the baffle fit is a bad idea. Always cut the corners of the baffle to make it fit flush….
