I finally got a chance to cast my aluminum dominoes! It was supposed to snow for the next couple days so I thought I'd better get it in. In this video I do some scrapping of aluminum with the burner running on diesel. I rammed it up some petrobond sand and used the match plates I CNCed in the previous video to form the dominoes. I also use my new portaband table to remove the runners and sprues.

"This cast is brought to you by the letter R, and this wrench" pmsl. Loved it, totally unexpected. You wont believe it but I was engraving works initials on exactly the same Rigid wrench last week. Great production, safe work methods, the only thing I am concerned about is your shoes, please get some work boots preferably steel capped as your current shoes dont offer enough protection top or bottom. If you saw the burn marks in the bottom of my work boots you would understand why.

I'm not much for domino's. But the tips given to allow for the better distribution of aluminum . That was very good advice. Sometimes I watch other forgers having to put up with just luck that their projects came out almost prefit. Some not so well, an we know that what they are passing off, was not the one they poured with us. They do their best but nothing is spot on. We notice more, but because we are looking for advise to start our own projects we stay quiet. Good advices is hard to come by. Thank You Loader.

Very interesting stuff. I'm not sure if it's already been pointed out in previous videos (presuming you've used Diesel before), but diesel isn't really a flammable aerosol like propane and gasoline are, hence why it's a pain in the ass to use as you are using it. Diesel when used in engines is much different from any other type of gasoline, where it is simply compressed so much that it explodes, and this explosion drives the other cylinders compressing diesel in the same way. There aren't really "spark plugs" except for when starting the engine and the only way to stop a diesel engine is to shut off the pump. This is quite similar to how hot rods work. Standard engines that run on gasoline will compress the gasoline to a certain point (the octane rating of the fuel determines how much it can be compressed without self-igniting) and then uses the spark plugs to ignite the aerosol gasoline.

would you ever consider selling one of those scrap ingots? you could charge more than the value of the aluminum, because industrial suppliers don't sell them in cool shapes like that. they look like bars of gold, except more interesting because they're aluminum.

I cant seem to find good videos on youtube for this but, have you attempted using steel molds for aluminium? Like your sand molds, but instead, two steel plates? Of course that would be very expensive to buy , but say someone had a CNC? Would it be efficient, would you have to use a blowtorch to pre-heat the plate to prevent rapid aluminium cooling? I have a CNC that can do steel , about 1x2 foot plates, and i want to start doing aluminium work but i dont like the sand method too much, i want to mass produce things ( for the fun of it, not trying to sell shit, but it could get to that )
