I love cast iron. Your patience and thorough efforts cleaning the humidifier were awesome. I definitely would have preferred to keep the original patina, without the paint, so that it could be used again.

This is why cast iron is the best. It can almost always be brought back to a completely functional piece.

Very cool restoration, and I absolutely love the color green you painted it. Now that it's painted though, can it be used? Is it a heat resistant paint?
@CoolRestorations4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! when I brought it back to original ower I told the husband that I would recomment keeping it just for looks (as a collectible) Because Im not sure the paint can take all that heat. When I was buying it, the lady said it reminded her of her grandma❤

What did you use inside the spout to get the rust out and to grind it down? (Or did you have to grind it down?) I’m trying to do mine - which I unfortunately forgot to season before using the first time (despite the online warnings) - it’s insanely rough on the inside (the finish I mean) and trying to get the rust out of the spout is causing me the most problems… if I can achieve that I can season it properly and start humidifying my place with it on the wood stove.

That is a fireside humidifier not a teapot.
@CoolRestorations3 жыл бұрын
Is it? Whats the use for it?
@scottymcm3 жыл бұрын
@@CoolRestorations You set it on a old wood-burning stove or in front of a fireplace. Fill it with water and the heat of the fire will cause the the water to evaporate and humidify the room. Mainly people who don't want a bunch of electronic stuff use them today or off-grid people. The one on amazon in the link below is really similar to the one you restored. www.amazon.com/PANACEA-PRODUCTS-15321-Kettle-Humidifier/dp/B000VBDHFS/ref=sr_1_13?dchild=1&keywords=Wood+Stove+Humidifier&qid=1627410648&sr=8-13

Wire wheeling a piece of cast iron is like refinishing a piece of antique furniture. You might personally prefer the new finish, but it is now worthless to collectors. Stripping rust by electrolysis or through weak chemicals is the way to go. Wheeling results in a polished, nonporous surface that seasoning can't adhere to.
