I consider that “The Waltons” is our Downton Abbey. Although we don’t have royalty and servants, the Waltons is the history of a family through tough times and those wonderful stories and relationships. The Waltons were more wholesome and family oriented. Very thankful for Earl Hamner and his great influence and sincerity, nice to remember his 100th birthday!

My father's first cousin lived in Virginia and had met Earl Hamner Jr. while he was doing Falcon Crest. As a teenager, I remember asking my great-uncle. How did you feel about meeting such a celebrity as Earl Hamner Jr. He told me it was an honor and a lifetime memory and that the world needed more people like Earl Hamner to make this world a better place. he will always cherish. I adore Earl Hamner Jr. and always Will cherish his memory and my great-uncle in my heart forever. May they both rest in peace. ❤❤ Thank you, Judy. 😊

Wow, Judy. That moved me to tears. My dad was born in Staunton and grew up there. His brother, my uncle Nelson always reminded me of John-Boy in his speech and manorisms. He was a kind and soft spoken man and when he spoke he sounded so much like Earl. I was always mover by The Waltons and they are one of the big reasons I moved to Virginia. I still live here. After 30 years in Charlottesville I moved, eleven years ago to Goodland Country which is about 1/2 hour west of Richmond. This is a truly beautiful state with so much to offer. Thank you guys for doing this tribute to Earl and for sharing your stories and your hearts with all of us. I am most grateful.

When my Mom passed I found comfort in watching Walton’s reruns during my grieving. I still find, particularly when I’m going through challenging personal circumstances/events in my life, that it is comforting to watch the Walton’s and watch these you tube videos to feel that connection to what the Walton’s represent. I didn’t know him , but Earl’s intentions for bringing this show and stories to the world came from a place of deep LoVe. ♥️ It is that vibration of love that I feel that is eternally there and so integral to the Walton’s show and all of you as family, that brings comfort… and quite honestly, I believe , healing to so many. Thank you. With gratitude and love, Teresa💞💞💞

@@judynorton2598Favorite scene with David: He tells momma he's gonna ride that motorcycle in the race. He's gonna fly airplanes too. He's growing up and no longer a boy. The acting is so believeable that I forgot it wasn't real. His ability to never lose control no matter how mad he got at siblings was something I wanted to know, learn from and try to emulate. 1973 I asked my mom to buy me bib overalls like his. I asked the one chair small town barber to cut my hair like his. I took a picture of David to him to show him what I wanted to look like. I started tinkering with cars like he did. I've always had the love for animals like he seemed to. I don't know if David had many friends because of the show and being a child movie star but if I was that kid growing up two or three doors down from him and being a year younger I know we would have been best friends. I thought he was so cool. I just wanted to be like him. Favorite episodes of all: Saying goodbye to grandpa and Martha Corrin painting the wagon before she passes. Again, not just an episode but real and genuine. To get to talk to a movie star of a show I grew up with 50 years ago Miss Judy is...well...I don't even have words to describe it. A bit like talking to the Queen of England I presume. (you get the point) Thanks to all of you for giving us all something that has stood the test of time and thank you Miss Judy for all of the insight into this series. May we all be together until the end of our own story.

I grew up watching the Waltons. I loved the show. My family being from rural WV I felt a real kinship with the Walton's way of life. A few years back I found out through genealogy research and dna testing that I am related to Earl Hamner through his Mother's Giannini side. Sadly, Earl had passed not long before so I never had the pleasure of talking with him. I did however reach out to his brother Paul. Not all were a “star” after “The Waltons”, like Eric and the delivery/trucking business, but he didn’t crumble, he just shifted gears. I also loved you and Michael in the kitchen. My mother was a child of the Depression, and my maternal Grandpa was a minister-most weekends following a Waltons episode my sister and I loved spending time with my Grandpa and Grandma comparing aspects of their lives with that week’s episode, and there were some similarities.

Challenge accepted. "Stamp selection process The Postal Service welcomes suggestions for stamp subjects that celebrate the American experience. Any proposal that meets the established criteria will be considered. If you are interested in submitting an idea, please follow these four steps: Carefully consider the criteria for appropriate stamp subjects (See Stamp subject selection criteria.) Submit your proposal in writing by U.S. mail. (No in-person appeals, phone calls, or e-mails are accepted.) Include pertinent historical information and important dates associated with the subject in your proposal. Mail your suggestion (one topic per letter) to the address below: Stamp Development Attn: Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee 475 L'Enfant Plaza SW, Room 3300 Washington, DC 20260-3501 Please note that due to the time required for research and approval, ideas for stamp subjects should be received at least three or more years prior to the proposed issuance year. As of January 2018, no living persons will be honored on a stamp. Deceased individuals will be honored no earlier than three years after his or her death. All suggestions that meet criteria are presented to the Committee at the next quarterly meeting. Each proposal is presented without attribution and receives the same level of consideration. If the Committee decides not to recommend a subject for issuance as a stamp, the proposal can be submitted again for reconsideration following a three-year interval. No credit or compensation is given for the submission of a stamp subject that is selected." "Stamp subject selection criteria The U.S. Postal Service and the members of the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee (CSAC) have set certain basic criteria used in determining the eligibility of subjects for commemoration on all U.S. stamps and stationery. U.S. postage stamps and stationery will primarily feature American or American-related subjects. Other subjects may be considered if the subject had significant impact on American history, culture or environment. The Postal Service will honor extraordinary and enduring contributions to American society, history, culture or environment. U.S. stamp programs are planned and developed two to three years in advance. In order to be considered, subject matter suggestions should be submitted three or more years in advance of the proposed stamp. Living people will not be considered at the present time. Beginning in 2018, proposals for a deceased individual will be considered three years following his/her death. A memorial stamp will be issued honoring U.S. presidents after they are deceased. Events of historical significance shall be considered for commemoration on anniversaries in multiples of 50 years. A balance of stamp subjects that includes themes of widespread national appeal and significance will be considered for commemoration. Official postal cancellations, which may be arranged through the local postmaster, may be requested for significant local events or commemorations. Commemorative postage stamps will be issued at intervals of 50 years from the date of the state's first entry into the Union. The stamp program commemorates positive contributions to American life, history, culture and environment; therefore, negative occurrences and disasters will not be commemorated on U.S. postage stamps or stationery. Due to the limitations placed on annual postal programs and the vast number of locales, organizations and institutions in existence, it would be difficult to single out any one of the following for commemoration: government agencies, localities, non-profit organizations, associations, and similar entities. Stamps or stationery items shall not be issued to honor religious institutions or individuals whose principal achievements are associated with religious undertakings or beliefs. However, these subjects may be recognized with commemorative postmarks. Stamps may be issued for the six active-duty branches - Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, and Space Force. This includes Reserve/Guard components of the current organizational structure. Stamps for the major service academies will be considered on a case-by-case basis for 50-year anniversaries (or multiples thereof)." @@judynorton2598

What a fantastic tribute the seven of you did for Mr. Hamner's Centenary (as the British call it)! It's great that he considered each of you part of the family- and that that family bond has lasted over 50 years despite having very different paths! I agree with Mr. Harper that CBS was very shortsighted about not buying Mr. Hamner's shows before 'The Homecoming' knocked it out of the ballpark. Let's not forget that 1971 was the infamous Rural Purge in which [as 'Green Acres' Pat Buttram put it] they 'got rid of every show with a tree'- not much of an exaggeration with everything from 'Green Acres' to 'Lassie' to 'Hee Haw' were axed from the network. I imagine that they thought they had nothing to lose by airing 'The Homecoming' that Christmas but they sure didn't expect the response of young, old, urban and rural viewers to it which got them to see that there was GOLD to be had in them 'thar Walton's Mountain! Oh, and I have family members from Virginia and I agree it was refreshing how the cast at least was in the ballpark of the accent - avoiding letting it get thick or hokey (and I've had a Smithfield ham in my time but did make sure to soak it before baking it). Special shout out to Mr. Walmsley for actually carrying out Mr. Hamner's dream of his childhood spirituals being made available! That's great that he used his gifts to make this happen but that he wanted to honor Mr. Hamner's memory AND keeping his promise! Thanks so much for sharing this with all of us (including the message from Mr. Thomas)!

I have shared it with a family member and can't wait to hear their reaction. We live and grew up in a very rural county that boasts beautiful hills which make us feel like we live on Walton's mountain. Thank you one and all.

@judynorton2598 I would like to share how I developed encouragement and support from Earls writing, stories, and his real to overcome childhood trauma to heal to become a survivor with his son Scott. When I was very young Charlotte Web was my favorite movie, so I was so truly blow away to learn that Earl write the story. I won't dump my story off, I was more interested in how the Waltons encouraged me to look out of the situation with hope

Judy, great stories and what a wonderful collection of people that continue to share them. The part of this conversation when you spoke about the southern accents with Earl resonates with me. My great grandmother was born in the Virginia mountains in 1895 and lived to 1990, there is a scene or two when Olivia would say "Eat ya suppa" (Eat your supper) its exactly how my great grandmother would say it. It was very heart warming and resonates because I grew up in a very rural area and we had very little, so The Walton's made us feel like we were related.

This was great to see all of you pay tribute to Mr. Hamner & his family. During last Christmas week the woman who has Celebrating Appalachia channel read The Homecoming book to us. It was very interesting to hear the original story & names of the family members before they were adapted into the Walton version of the TV movie & series. Earl & his family were really a blessing to us & a lasting legacy of Appalachia that too many people really don't or didn't know about before The Waltons hit the airwaves. And it STILL is beloved to this day. Thank you all for continuing to keep us in the fold. 🏞🇺🇸 We'd look forward to music from Jon & Earl too!!

That was SO great. Judy, you and the rest of the cast have a family larger than just your cast, You have a family of fans as you well know and I am proud to be one of them. You all have meant so much to me as I fight the illness that is limiting me to my home and places which have minimal risk or where i feel the reward is worth the risk as it was when I met you and Mary Beth at the Logan Co. fair. Please tell Mary I thank her for the hand sanitizer and I left the show healthy, happy, but just a little sad because I miss all of you and may never get a chance to see you in person again. Like Earl said, old age is not for sissies. It was nice to see all of you, especially John and David. I have so much in common with David's character it is almost like i was his double. Like Jim Bob, i was the family dreamer who marched to the sound of a different drum. Like he, I liked animals and had dogs, cats, hamsters, a wild starling that I raised after rescuing it from a lake and thirteen sparrows and two robins that were removed from two garages thet were bbeing fumigated for termites. I loved cars and airplanes and built many models of both. Unlike Jim Bob I never got to fly in a Jenny, but my uncle Jim who was in the Air Force, took me to Scott AFB when I was five or six and let me sit in the cockpit of a F-84 Saber Jet that was one of the major jet fighters in the Korean War and I even got to wear the pilots helmet though it was six sizes too big. Like Jim Bob I was originally turned down by the Air Force for eye problems but appealed and was allowed to serve since I was not going in as a pilot. And finally both Jim Bob and i had a first love that was a Baptist- Catholic union that did not pan out and left us both hurting for a while. Plese when you have another group meeting, tell them how much i do appreciate them and wish that the show would have gone on as long as those that lasted for 20 years.

Hearing Kami's, Mary's, Eric's, Jon's, David's, Richard's, and your thoughts and memories of Earl Hamner is so much more intimate and authentic than watching a Documentary about Earl Hamner told by someone who didn't know him up close and very personal. 💚❤That is also why your channel, Judy is so fascinating and credible because the audience sees the real you (& your Walton siblings and Walton guests) through your captivating storytelling!
