I will actually endure the stupid commercials on the Hallmark Channel every weekday just so I can binge watch the Waltons (and LHOP afterward). I refuse to watch those cheesy Hallmark movies, but I look forward to watching The Waltons. It’s also funny how I use to relate mostly to Erin because I’m a middle girl in my family. Then I related more with Olivia when I got married and became a mother. Nowadays I am relating more to Grandma’s (Ellen Corby) character now that I have gone on to become a grandma myself! Funny how that happens, isn’t it?!!

Judy Kami is such a great storyteller. I was completely entranced when she described her first teaching job and the statement about Dogwood - such a simple thing - just made me imagine her walking around the city and seeing the sights. This was a great segment of Ask Judy with Kami Cotler as a guest. So interesting to hear Kami's perspective as she was so young at the time. I love thinking about the other children all having to share the responsibility in getting kami into position or getting Kami to do what she was suppose to be doing. As a father of 3 kids, and my youngest only 4, I know how difficult it can be to get them to do what you want them to do, when you want them to do it. My hat is off to all the kids pulling off this TV magic. I remember watching these shows as a kid, I'm 53 now and watching them again in reruns, they brings back so many memories of watching them with family. I am can't believe I still enjoy them but I do, they are timeless in a sense. Thank you again Judy, really enjoy your videos.

Recently read an article about Tony Dow. He was typecast. Never knew he had such a hard time as he got older when that intense fame faded. I had has to be hard for them when all the success happens so young and then there is nothing for them at least not on the larger scale they had younger, Same happened ot Stan Livingston. He got typecast as Chip Douglas, such talent too in that boy. Anyway yes the Walton kids survived well. So did Stan and actually Tony Dow and Jerry Mathers did survive it too. But so many fall into substance abuse and other issues and depression.

Thanks so much Judy for arranging guest interviews! And, thank you, Kami for sharing with all us fans. You said how The Walton's impacted the trajectory of your life. I can't speak for others here, but in my own case, I fell a bit in love with all of you and the family from the first airing of The Homecoming. Whoever wrote the scene that begins w/ Mary Ellen calling you all a "bunch of p___ants" to your reply and your lovely little face framed in soft glow Christmas tree bulbs, "I don't feel like a p___ant" and Patricia Neal's husky and somewhat comical reasoning, "Well, there you go then!" created an indelible memory and warm reality that is just so beautiful I don't have words. I was 14 when The Homecoming aired. My family did not actually like the series, so while I sometimes caught part of a story here and there, I didn't get to see the entire series until I was expecting my first child! Teachers had told me I could be a writer, so I was also obsessed with John Boy's pursuit of writing. I don't know what my life would have been like without The Walton's. I place a tiny bird's nest on the Christmas tree every year. I read any books about the actors and series. I had a chance to interview Mr Hamner and Mr Thomas. I was stunned how like John Boy Mr Hamner was. He encouraged my writing and answered any letters I sent. He was so down-to-earth and unfailingly kind as are all of you. While there haven't always been happy endings, I tried to keep the positive ways of The Walton's. I am so glad you became a teacher, Kami! I was a teacher too! I don't have a daughter, but if we did have a daughter I was going to name her after little Elizabeth! Thanks so much just all of you for being you! Kind regards from your fan in Pennsylvania! 🧡💐✨🙏☮️

The key to being a great actor is reading the scripts, and understanding the motivations of each and every other actor in scenes with you, and then going the extra mile with acting in either the foreground to deliver you lines with the proper motivations, or background when your character isn't even emphasized with lines, but with reactive body language reacting to lines of other actors or lack there of-wherever the script may go. Kami is correct to assume her character had a fixed personality and that all scripted lines needed to relay that-just as any other character of the show. It was a plus at such a young age that she understood that.

Oh my gosh Judy.....that was great. I enjoyed watching your interactions with Kami and hearing your stories. It's great fun to know what all of you are doing in your lives now. Also I'd like to add that when you watch a TV show, you become so engaged with the characters you almost feel you know them personally. Seeing this video and watching and listening to the other cast members brings so much to the understanding of who all of you are in real life. Love this!!! thanks Judy

Miss Judy, your timing with your question about the irony of Miss Kami moving to the area where The Walton's was based upon, was impeccable! I wholeheartedly agree with her that Virginia is a beautiful place! Driving through the Shenandoah Valley in the winter of 2013, the mountains were covered in snow and the air was crisp and cool with the faint aroma of oak logs burning in the fireplace, the place was magical!

What also made us feel you were so real as the Walton’s in addition to fantastic acting, was you also looked like a family. The red hair theme! Other shows, like 8 is Enough, wasn’t believable. Everyone looked so different. You all looked like a real family. It’s still hard for us to wrap our heads around you talking of playing the characters you did! Because to us, you are those people. Well done!

I'm a 70s baby, and "The Waltons" has been a staple in my family, from as early as I can remember. I'm a Virginian, from Hampton Roads to be exact..and I'm still here. I'd get excited everytime that someone in the family mentioned going to Newport News, or Hampton Roads😊 It seems like for every character from The Waltons, I can see someone in my family, or myself, in one of them. Everyday, I still watch The Waltons reruns, a noon! I've learned so many life lessons, from watching the show. The next time that I'm close to the mountain area, I'm definitely going to visit the Hamner home and museum. Thank you so much for bringing us the wonderful commentary, and show memories.

I remember a long time ago, walking into the TV room, and my mom was watching some show that I hadn't seen before. I asked what she was watching, as I sat down on the couch looking at the TV. Right away this show seemed different from all the other shows on TV at the time, it wasn't about cops & robbers, and guns, & explosions & car chases, it was slow and simple, set in the olden days, and that first episode that I saw, the family dog got shot in the woods, and I was crying, no other TV show ever made me cry before. The Waltons was a real family to us, not a TV show, I still get sentimental about it, that was a part of my life, the scenery, the old cars and buildings, the pace of the show, the morals and values of the family, Earl Hamner's warm sounding voice at the end, it was a special show. So my thanks to everyone involved. Good night Mary Ellen, good night Elizabeth !!!

Oh Judy, Thanks for having Kami back again ! Interesting and enjoyable. As a side note, as a teen, I lived with an abusive mom, and during the time when my father was fighting for custody of me, I had to live in a foster home for about a month. It was very traumatic for me and I tried to make the best of it. My favorite and comforting program was The Waltons. I was able to watch it at the foster home and got a bunch of other kids to watch with me. I shared a bedroom with a girl much younger than me. Every night, she would say to me good night Mary Ellen, and I would reply good night Elizabeth. I have never forgotten that. Thanks so much for doing these videos for us.

I have always been a huge fan of the show, and at 67 I still will watch it over and over. Maybe because I grew up with six siblings, in the country, with a dad who was a logger and my grandpa had a lumber mill. And he was from Walton, OR. Or maybe I just loved the show. The one scene I don’t know how you all got through (or maybe it took lots of takes) was Zeb’s mountain burial scene, knowing that it was also memorializing Will. I know it is hard to watch.
