I don't know. Some of the acting was pretty corny and the effects are pretty dated. The stories are near perfect though. It's also not like they're replacing the original, it'll still exists in all its 80's-90's glory. This anti-reboot rhetoric reminds me of the bad conservative stance that keeping monuments of confederate traitors is the only way to remember them and "preserve history" as if books, museums, and universities don't exist.

I would watch the shit out of a Captain Worf series. Even if it was one where he retired from Starfleet to take command of a Klingon ship in order to fully restore his house to its former greatness etc etc.... Actually. I might even prefer that over him as Starfleet captain. But either way... Captain Worf... In the TNG/DS9 style... No discovery, no JJ Abrams style, no bleak future that's just a ripoff of every other bleak future post apocalyptic dark gritty Sci fi series that's been overdone 10000 times. But back to the Roddenberry future.

@@blackhawks81H He won't ever make captain. Failing an important mission to extract a defector from the Dominion to save Jadzia showed an unwillingness to put his job before personal concerns, which for captain of a starship is not the kind of mindset you need to have. Sisko even told Worf that due to his choice Starfleet [probably] would never give him a command of his own. That said ... a Klingon series starring Dorn as Worf would be epic. Maybe a series about establishing Martok as a strong, respected leader of the Empire but from the view point of one of his closest advisers.

The fact that new fresh ideas for stories and characters are not imagined up from nothing has been on a steady decline since the early 1990s. @@daveyjones5702 Lower Decks and Picard are pretty great imho. You can't expect Star Trek to be the exact same as it was 30 years ago, tv and production changes as well the potential target audience. I'm not saying that you'd support a rehash of the old Star Trek formula, but, for example, nowadays season long story arcs seem to be the norm for almost every Show/Franchise. The classic formula, where each episode of a TV show was a self-contained story, probably just doesn't work anymore. Having said that, I also don't want to see a reboot of TNG.

@@God_Is_An_Atheist Well, I can`t comment on Lower Decks, since, I`ve never watched a single episode. However, Picard started out well, but dropped down almost immediately. The entire thing between the Romulan brother, and sister was quite... unpleasent, to say the least. The barefoot-dancing inside the Borg-cube was cringe-at-it`s-best. The love-story of Seven and what`s-her-name came out of nowhere. The "doctor/professor-what`s-her-name" was more out of place, than the 1937´s from Voyager... She seems to be incompetent in almost every aspect (starting with "realising, that interstellar travel is a thing"). The romulan antipathy against androids was just nonsense, considering some of the TNG-episodes, and averything else, we`ve been shown about them. "Commodre Oh" made no sense... neither did her name sound vulcan, nor remulan, nor did her shades serve any purpose (apart from making her look stupid). If she was supposed to be an shady agent of an secret agency, she should either be more subtle (e.g. it was indicatet in the ST-novels, that Admiral Cartwright was a member of Section 31), or shouldn`t be a member of Starfleet (like Harris, or Sloan). Brent Spiner being an unkown/unmentioned son of Dr. Soong was "not the best idea"... considering Soong`s appearances, it would`ve made more sense, if Lore was the root of all evil (but he`s the new "the-one-who-shall-not-be-named" as it seems). Then, there was this cringe-worthy costume-thing, whith the eyepatched-Picard, and the pimp-Rios... Have the writer/producers/directir even watched a single undercover/secret mission episode of Star Trek? Geez, I could go on for days... And that`s coming from a guy, who has TOS, TNG, DS), and TMP on Discs right beside him, two Uniforms in the closet, every single TOS/TNG/DS9/Myriad Universe-novel on his bookshelf (from "The Cage" " up to "Colleteral Damage").

No. No reboot. Not now. Not ever. I am still waiting for “Star Trek: The Next, Next Generation” (TM, and copyright me, of course). There is this current fascination with going “back to the roots” of a show, which inevitably leads to plot holes, and horrendous continuity issues all round. Failing that, we have the “reboot”, which is never a good idea in an established franchise. Sure, you might attract a few new viewers, but your original fan base will always be pissed off. We do not need a reboot of TNG. We need their “Next Generation”. We need the best of Starfleet, and the Enterprise. We need optimism. Most of all we need to retcon all the darker things that have become the norm in “modern” Star Trek.

No, the real Picard maneuver is the shirt pull, you need to make that seemless. But while I could see that Seru guy playing Data and maybe Gadot (she does have the right temperament), I think the way Trek shows had traditionally hired is the best. Up till Enteprise, nearly all trek actors had little on screen experience but where stage actors, typically classically trained. Even Shatner was a Shakespearean actor. When Trek stuck to that, that's when you got episodes like in the Pale Moonlight, and that one with the flute. I think the big Hollywood guys, while many of them are good, are also more full of themselves, too full of themselves for a show like Trek.

You do realize that many of the starship designs from the 2009 film appeared in Prelude to Axanar (with some minor tweaking) right? As for rebooting the TOS cast, the creators had been trying to do that since the mid 1980's, with Roddenberry's blessing (reference his 1986 interview talking about how he wanted to see "bright young people and new stars" giving a new vision to the old show). It was Paramount who constantly nixed the idea. Lets also not forget, TNG is the original destroyer of canon. Not only erasing established late 20th Century Earth history (removing Khan's entire backstory in the process), but even going so far as to have an episode ABOUT genetic engineering, and using the word "eugenics" without so much as a mention of Khan and the Eugenics Wars. "The last of your so-called World Wars" as mentioned by Spock, occurring in the 1990's apparently was replaced with a post-atomic horror in the late 2070's AFTER the "new united nations" in the 2030's.... and THEN all that was retconned away AGAIN by having First Contact occur in 2063 "ten years after the third world war"... so when do we get Q's courtroom scene if the Vulcans are already there helping Humanity recover? So much of the love (in fact idolization) of TNG is from hindsight, completely forgetting the FIERCE opposition to it in its early seasons, saying the EXACT same things said not only about Discovery and Picard today,... but also said against Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and especially Enterprise. Enterprise got cancelled just as it was getting good because of all that same bitching. But have we learned from this? Absolutely not, we just keep doing the same thing. And just like all the previous series', all those who defend it and its right to exist are called shills. And just like all the previous series', after a decade and people look back and see the good things about it, you all will once again hypocritically say "What? I never had anything bad to say about it, I supported it from the very beginning"

@Michael Dinneweth nobody is arguing what your own preferences are. Everyone has likes and dislikes, but that is not the issue here. You are free to like or dislike anything you want. What you are not free to do is ridicule others' likes or dislikes and imply they are somehow "destroying the franchise" even though from every definable metric, the franchise is stronger now than at any point since the turn of the millennium. Your own personal hatreds are immaterial. So are mine. I don't really enjoy Discovery all that much, but it doesn't matter. Regardless of what I do or do not enjoy, I will still defend its right to exist, because I actually believe in the principles that Star Trek had taught me all my life. IDIC isn't just a catch phrase, it is a way of life.

@Michael Dinneweth Freedom of Speech applies to the government not being able to incriminate someone for their speech. I am not the government. And also it works both ways, as you are telling me I have no right to say you are incorrect... so apparently freedom of speech only applies to you, but not others? I never said you can't SAY it, I was merely saying that your claim was false, by every definable metric one can offer. JJ Abrams revived a franchise that was already dead. Enterprise's ratings were absolutely tanking (even if the quality was improving) leading to its cancellation several years earlier, and Nemesis was an absolute abysmal failure. The fanbase was on the decline for almost a full decade before. Nothing Paramount was creating was bringing in any new fans, while older fans were leaving in droves. 2009 saw the largest influx of new fans since at any point since probably 1991 at the latest. I'm sorry you can't handle that.

Why why why is everything being rebooted to death. I am re-watching next gen partly because it was quality TV, not mired in the impulsive need for tons and tons of action scenes, and the writing was top notch after it found its feet. Intriuging and exciting stories that didn't need and ounce of space battles to create a desire to watch. I loathe that the timeline and history get so mired now that you need alternate timelines, and you need to establish a prime universe just to have an excuse to reboot things to death instead of coming up with new ideas. I love TNG precisely because of what it is, and I have no dobut that the reboot will have almost none of that, especially if CBS ends up having draconion rules put over it. Talk about stagnation. Nobody wants to make new TV or movies anymore.

Hmm, there was a TNG episode where Worf was transiting thru several iterations of universes, culminating in a scene with over a hundred Enterprises from hundreds of alternate 'verses. This reboot could take place in one of them. Like Disco or JJ's.

Well, according to _Star Trek Online_ Tom Paris and B'Elana had a daughter, who also served in Starfleet. And who also became a Captain. Harry Kim finally got that promotion -- and so did Tuvok. And Q Jr is still hanging around, occasionally making Winter Wonderlands.

I think Gillian Jacobs should probably play Tasha Yar. I mean I can just see her saying "I lived in NEW YORK!!" on the bridge when people question if she's tough enough. Then when she dies the crew could have a farewell and say "she was the worst" . . . wait, what? She's not just Britta from Community?

84% on Rotten Tomatoes, 7.2/10 on IMDB, 73% on Metacritic, and 88% positive on Google. It seems to be doing okay. It's certainly better than most of the completely unwatchable garbage on TV, not that that's saying much.

Depends on how you define success. It’s getting ready to have a 4th season with no signs of stopping so that could be considered a success.

@@wallacewallaby5782 Have you watched any of it, though? If you have, what do you think of it? I watched season 1, and I have seen clips from all over subsequent seasons. To me, the obsession with Michael Burnham seems very un- _Trek_ -like. The franchise has always been an ensemble thing. I also hate the fact that everyone is a jerk to everyone else. It makes it a difficult watch emotionally. The constant motion, shaking, lens flares, etc. make it difficult to watch physically. The action and violence is frequent and jarring for a _Trek_ series. I did _not_ want to watch more after I returned the DVDs to the library. So I didn't.

I agree. As much as I am tired of prequels, Pike looks good and instead of rewriting Roddenbery's universe, I feel it pays respect to his original idea that got shot down. If you think about it, Kirk and his crew were a reboot after The Cage, but nobody said reboot back then. Besides reboot is something you do to an electronic device usually when it malfunctions. Why reboot something that works? Lol
