I think another important thing to note about Tim is he's really the one Robin without any parental issues. Tim's father, Jack, is alive and well for most of Tim's Robin career, mainly doing the 60s Aunt May routine. This is important because Tim's main character flaw is his low self esteem, and a lot of that comes from conflict between him and his neglectful father. Watching Jack improve as a father as Tim overcomes his self esteem issues is so satisfying on both fronts, and definitely should be included in the live action story for Robin.
@scrabdusanproductions21042 жыл бұрын
To add to this real quick, that's why I wasn't a huge fan of the take on him in Titans. The actor they chose for Tim was fantastic, but the severe lack of Jack Drake made it a less than satisfying experience for me.
@sololinnea Жыл бұрын
...no parental issues?? What do you call criminal neglect then lol. Do you mean no dead parents at a young age? That feels more accurate.
@scrabdusanproductions2104 Жыл бұрын
@@sololinnea okay, yes Tim have parental issues that have drastically affected his self esteem, but that conflict is a lot more relatable to normal teenagers (the target audience) than any story involving trauma from dead parents. The thing with every other Batfamily character is that their stories are almost dependent on an exploration of trauma from the death of a loved one. As someone who's suffered majorly from self esteem issues, Tim's story about learning to believe in himself despite self doubt, and reconciling with his father who's trying his best to make up for lost time with his son, is much more cathartic and relatable than ANYTHING any of the other Batfamily members have gone through. So yes, him having alive parents does make a difference for a totally normal guy who loves the story if Batman, but suffers mainly from self esteem issues as opposed to trauma.

On Tim and Damian's ethnicities: Tim has at times been drawn to have a potentially mixed ethnicity, while not spesifically white, and whiteness not being an important aspect of the character, he has sometimes appeared to be half white, hassled mixed east-asian. I agree with every fancast except for Damian. I see where you're coming from with Walker playing him, but Damian has been characterized as white boy since his introduction in the comics even though he's canonically biracial, but like you said white has been the default in the comics for years. Rather than race bending a canonically white character, this is a perfect opportunity to look for more Middle Eastern and Asian child actors.

A part of me feels like Stephanie could be the Stealth Robin. She'd be the Robin who seems to appear out of thin air, the Robin who can go in and out without no one noticing, the Robin who could seemingly vanish. She is shown to be somewhat of a nimble and quick foot character, so in my mind it makes sense.

If you think McKenna Grace has kept a low profile, you've not been looking in the right direction. She's just not been supported by the Nickelodeon or Disney hype machines. She's just been consistently working since the age of 7, playing every pretty blonde character's younger self, coasting on her own talent alone. The only issue with trying to get her for Stephanie would be locking her down. As for Damian, casting him is almost a fool's errand. Once you go below 15, any casting has a 2-year expiration date. Also, as you are not a professional casting agent, you must rely on previous works to act as the audition. Well-cast child characters are almost always relative unknowns. They'll frequently have some experience in soap operas or single episodes of television dramas, usually police procedurals. To comb through those roles would be tedious, while in the real world, they're managed by agents who responds to casting calls, which include ethnic backgrounds. I even tried out IMDb's advanced name search to see if I could find any possibilities that weren't the whitebreadiest child actors out there, and I stop seeing headshots before I could get any solid leads. I admire your tenacity, though.

Hey. A bit late too the party, but would like to pour in my thoughts. As much as we would want all the main 8 to feature in the DCU, since this is live action, I think they might take elements from a few and combine them into a single character. Heres what I mean, I think they are really adamant on developing Damian as the Robin. And as much as I empathise with Drake, I think that he primarily serves as an intermediary or filler role. Therefore, in order to give this particular character a unique arc of their own, instead of just sidelining them once damian comes in, we could make this character a hybrid of Drake and the batgirls. So what will happen is that after Jason is presumably dead we might have either Stephanie or Cassandra be the current Robin as in where we pick up from in the DCU. Her origins might be a combination of Drakes, her own. And once Damian comes in, we might further the plot in such a way that she forms a certain mentor kind of bond with him and grooms him to become Robin. And then, like Drake went on to become red robin, she might go on to take on the mantle of Batgirl. And there we have it; Nightwing, todd, Robin, Batgirl. And perhaps even one Batwoman. I believe these 5 along with obviously, Alfred and Catwoman would make the perfect DCU bat-family. Thoughts???

@@parzivalx01 While I don't disagree I do think people [at least the people in charge of casting] see Ra's race as mutable. This is a problem with a lot of mixed-race characters in comics. If you see the ways, Conner Hawk, Kyle Rayner, Bane or most prominently Damian have been depicted in comics anyone unfamiliar with their origins would assume they were only white. I think that's one of the messiest aspects of race in comics. Because in the real world there is no definitive way to look biracial. The way you phenotypically present is random. You could be darker or lighter than your parents and have or not have X racial features. And that's perfectly fine and natural. But when you're depicting a fictional character the choices you make in presenting their race mean more. If people draw Damian with basically no racialized features they're telling their audience they want them to engage with him as white. Especially because it's not like comics are going to have storylines about how Damian feels about being white-passing or his connection to his race. No one would ever cast a white person to play Steel but they didn't bat an eye about casting Liam Neeson as Ra's. I think it says a lot about how his race is perceived in the wider world

I think a perfect choice for Stephanie Brown is Alyvia Alyn Lind from the Chucky TV series. She is currently 15, naturally blonde (not essential, but nice) and in the show, she plays a teen with a troubled personality due to her despicable parents, but keeps a joyful attitude around her peers. She becomes a main character in the series, giving her experience as a co-lead in a large, ongoing franchise. Think you'd be impressed if you're brave enough to look up clips lol.

I will say I now prefer the Webtoons version who presents as more mixed. But I know it's also hard to find a young actor that checks all the boxes.

So the only issue with this video is you got 1 thing wrong about Tim. He can't be batman and knows it. Every time a future Tim that became batman is shown he's super effective but overall horrible at it because he's even more obsessive than Bruce and tends to start killing because without Bruce there as a model he does the logic thing people in the real world do and decides killing 1 person to potentially save 100s. Tim is definitely the best Robin though

I think Stephanie is interesting because she’s the most “pov” character. She’s not necessarily more gifted in a certain aspect but she’s more lower-middle class and the daughter of a villain. She’s also a character who more recently has been portrayed as not having an amazing relationship with Bruce, and I think that’s interesting to explore. She’s a part of the batfamily but through her connections to the batgirls and robins rather than to Bruce

Re: Cassandra's age - Cassandra is somewhere between 2-3 years older than Tim and approximately the same age as Jason. It's revealed when Cass is first trying to discover who her mother is that Shiva was one of the candidates that Bruce and Jason looked into when they were trying to find HIS mom (which kinda implies that Jason could be Asian) because she'd had a child around the same time that Jason was born, but that child turned out to be Cassandra. (this is revealed by Batman in Batgirl (2000) #65) DC has messed with their ages a lot since then (notably Jason is one of the few Batman characters to grow up in the past decade, along with Damian, while DC has had Cass drift more towards Tim and Stephanie's age) but this was the pre-Flashpoint canon that's sort of been reestablished recently.

Wait that Tim wasn’t just in Beyond film, he’s in TAS/DCAU. We saw him be everything you said only to become a broken man who got pushed aside by Bruce for the mission. Jason Todd is in the DCAU, via its canon comics but this was introduced into DCAU years after the movie
