We finally made it out to Castle De Haar which is located in Utrecht Netherlands, and dates all the way back to the 13th century. Not only is it one of the most beautiful castles you will set your eyes on, Castle de Haar is known as the biggest castle in the Netherlands.
Castle de Haar sits on over 135 acres which features wildlife such as deer, a small network of peaceful ponds and canals straight out of the fairytales, a rose garden, beautiful statues, and last but not least: a labyrinth.
Built in 1391 by the de Haar family, the Castle itself is a labyrinth of 200 rooms!
The castle burned down in 1482 only to be restored years later in 1892 for the baron. Once used as the private residence of the Van Zuylen family, the castle is now open to the public. And just to think, 19 euros gets you access to all of it!
After working our way through the countless rooms of Castle de Haar it had become painfully obvious that id never find myself living in such a lap of luxury. And with the idea of not being able to find my way out of my own castle, that was okay with me. With that thought, it was time to head back outside for some fresh air. If we could find our way out.
