Fantastic presentation... Makes me feel like it is time once again to visit the land of my family. I wish the printing was posted a few seconds longer but what that caused me to do was to watch the presentation three times and enjoying every second of time watching and relaxing to some of the most heavenly music I have had the pleasure to listen to. I thank you and praise you for your beautiful work! Mike from the USA

Watching this brought back a cherished memory from my childhood. My father came from Inverness, his grandfather Stornaway and great grandfather Uist. When I was about 10 years old my dad would take me on the train to Inverness, teaching me all the names of different trees we'd see on the way there. We'd visit his sisters and I'd stay for my summer holiday's my 3 brothers all much older than I would have their own things to do, and I being the only girl and much younger, I guess my parents thought I'd enjoy being with my aunts- who all looked about 100 years old to me! their idea of entertaining me would be to take me to The Callum Kennedy Show!! On one occasion dad took me up to Inverness Castle (The Highland Police Headquarters!) and took me to the back of the Castle and pointed in the direction of The Isle of Skye home of the MacLeod's. Which we are part of. Dad told me all about Dunvegan Castle and how on a very clear day you could just make it out from our vantage point at the back of the castle. He told a wondrous tale about the fairy flag and how in times of trouble for the clan that if they waved the flag aid would come to assist them. My dad promised me that I could have the last wish of the fairy flag! He also told wonderful stories. There was one about Tomnahurich Hill which is the cemetery for Inverness, which lies below The Leachkin (pronounced "Larkin") where he grew up in a small croft beside Craig Dunain. When I was small one could still see the foundation stones of his croft all that was left. How my grandparents brought up 5 children in such a tiny place I'll never know. Dad had 4 big sisters, so he was always close to me as he understood how I felt being the youngest and how lonely it can make you, when brothers won't play with dolls or in his case how the girls wouldn't play with his trains. Sorry I digressed. The story about Tomnahurich hill ( Tomnahurich means hill of the fairies) is that one night a pair of drunken pipers went into the cemetery and climbed the hill and were so drunk they fell asleep and the next morning when they left the cemetery they discovered they'd been gone 100 years !this is because the fairies had played a trick on the men. If you google Tomnahurich stories you can see different version of this story. Sadly my dad died when he was only 59 years old and is buried in Tomnahurich and if he could sit up and look ahead he'd see where he was born and brought up. Dad was so full of wondrous stories another example was he told me when my grandfather died and was cremated it took them 9 years to put the fire out!! because of all the whisky he'd drank in life! and when I was 9 or 10 I believed every word my dad told me. If it seems that my dad told many stories with alcohol involved- well he was a Highlander and they do like their whisky, just look at the amount of distilleries in Scotland, about the same amount as we have castles!

very nice stories! You ought to organize all your stories and write them down. Not only for your future(and present)family generations; but to make a real nice oral history into a bestselling book! yeah, go for it!

You made me smile. My family comes from the Inverness area as well, Frasers. You should write the stories down so they are not lost like so much of our culture.

My favourite castle is Dunvegan on the other side of skye and I have seen what is left of the fairy flag. You tell wonderful storieis and I would love to see them in print one day. So thank both Lin Joy and yourself, I have enjoyed both the video and your reminisce. Scotland loving englishman

Beaufort castle near Beauly at 2:29 you state Byset family (Sept of Fraser Clan) built it, but it was destroyed in 1650's by Cromwell and partially rebuilt by Clan Fraser who had controlled the Castle since the 1200's and rebuilt again in 1880 after English Duke of Cumberland destroyed it after the Jacobite rebellion. Proper Gaelic name Caisteal Dhunaidh or Castle Dounie.

Too many 19th century houses posing as castles. The main section of Castle Menzies is an example of the careful and long restoration of a large castle; a pity it is not shown here. An inspirational building. Meggernie Castle is a fine example of a 13th C castle with later additions; a pity it missed out. Eilean Donan Castle is an example of an almost complete rebuild (except for its foundations!); very popular with tourists.. Carnban Castle; it awaits very careful restoration but size (smallish) is on its side.

I love the pictures of the different clan castles! But did you get them from google? Or actually go and visit? Because Scottish clans are fairly picky about non-clan members visiting their 'Seats'. Especially if they are from a rival clan.
