Fyi, only the European Konami GB collections were colorized. The original Japanese versions have grey carts. The European versions also released in a different order, so the numbering isn't consistent with the Japanese versions. The Japanese versions also featured cute anime girls on the game select screens that were removed for the European releases.

It's sad that the Rebirth series is lost on WiiWare and not even available for purchase anymore. M2 did a good job on all 3 (Contra, Gradius, and Castlevania), considering they were low budget. DOS Castlevania actually has a third sound option using the Tandy 3-voice chip, which is basically just a Master System soundchip. By default, the rom floating around on the internet is missing one of the files needed to support this, but I swiped it from the DOS port of Altered Beast. I'd say I prefer it to the Adlib/soundblaster option. I actually did get to play Castlevania: The Arcade once at Round One in Great Lakes Crossing, but that machine is no longer there. While it is rare to find, I can honestly say you aren't missing out on much by not playing it, as it isn't something that holds your interest for more than a few minutes. Still, it's odd that it never got ported to the Wii, as it was quite a popular system at the time and the wiimotes are pretty much the same as the controllers used in the arcade machine. Maybe they could have given it some extra content to justify being a home release, but sadly they never did.

Also, both the NES and the MSX2 were developed at the same time - one is not a 'port' or a 'remake' of the other. The NES version was released in Sept. 1986 while Akumajō Dracula for MSX2 was in October, the same year.

I think I found the same java game repository, let's see if I can transcribe any of these titles for google translate to work... 36:47 秦殇:千年轮回 means _Qin Shang: Millennium Reincarnation._ Shang itself translates to "to die young" but with Qin being a last name, Shang is likely a first name. 38:30 吸血鬼之恶糜城堡 is _Vampire's Evil Castle_ 39:07 恶魔城:血之召顺 is _Castlevania: Summoning of Blood,_ yes even the Chinese title says Castlevania! 39:46 古堡魅影 means _Phantom of the Castle,_ there's also a subtitle in there somewhere, but I can't read it well enough to transcribe 41:05 弑神錄:黑暗卷轴 means _Godslayer: The Dark Scroll,_ which is a title that is criminally wasted on a bootleg. 41:27 猎魔人 is _Witch Hunter_ or just _Witcher_ 42:17 looks like all the _Castlevania Demon_ games are from a Chinese series 斩妖伏魔录 which means _Demon Slayer,_ presumably unrelated to the same-named anime.

As for the TIGER SOTN game.. do those games even have rom chips, or are they just hardwired games... sort of like early 70s arcade games prior to ROM chips being used? I may be wrong I thought the only way to remake LCD handhelds was a sort of "simulation" of the hardware rather than "emulation" as you'd do with an arcade or console game.

Yoo you did not disappoint with the Amiga coverage, and I was happy to see Robocop 3D show up onscreen for a moment. The only thing I feel compelled to add is a comment about the soundtrack- It's very lifelessly ported to the sample set they used and there's some wrong notes in the level 1 theme. It sounds horrible. The best thing from the Amiga version was the completely new title theme. It's a pretty neat, albeit simple track. It seems they were probably better suited to making something original rather than porting Castlevania in the first place.

I actually wanted to say more about the Amiga version, but I ended up trimming the review to about half because the video was too long. Main character is called Kamui. From abilities after upgrading he has short dash, slide, double jump, glide in air, magical attacks based on elemental rune. In 3 locations he has to transform into wolf, bat and mist, sadly only for transportation and not a gameplay. And the main map in stage select is kind of similar to Order of Ecclesia. Fun time playing.I reccomend to try it out.

Adventure ReBirth seriously needs to be rereleased, as does Dracula X Chronicles. Maybe if Konami ever gives us a Castlevania DS Collection, those can be included as bonuses, or they could do a rerelease pack of all the ReBirth titles. Also, worth noting is that Haunted Castle really was never originally meant to be a Castlevania game. That's no rumor, it's just true--they hastily threw in Simon Belmont and some familiar music into what was meant to be an original project at the request of Konami higher-ups who thought it would perform better under the Akumajo Dracula title.

tbf I've played the Aria of Sorrow mobile version, and while it definitely wasn't GBA-perfect, it was definitely better in all aspects than the version you've shown here. It had a smoother framerate, as well as actually displaying the HP and MP bars on the screen. this is frankly the issue/quirk with the J2ME games - lots of them had lots of different versions to fit on different phones. Sometimes getting a yar-har-har downloaded .jar file of another version could get you a better game than you'd get from the version supposedly-better for your phone. I remember that I might've been playing a version of Aria of Sorrow that was supposed to be played on models with lower resolution - the game still had some scaling mechanisms, which ended up with sprites being small, but no screen-crunch at all. about the Dawn of Sorrow... funnily enough, the version of DoS you're showing is closer in quality to the version of AoS I had. Meanwhile, my version of DoS was... poor. Framerate was perfect, sprites were good, but no backgrounds, and the game wasn't even trying to replicate DoS. Game was just a linear path, with no story, no dialogues, and just a few bosses, ending with the fight with Aguni. 37:23 penta = five 43:32 yoo, the dude has a scar that he didn't have in the previous game

28:34 - It's a very bad music XDDDD 32:52 - actually, the spritework is better in the other versions of the game where the sprites are not AS huge. I mean, you know, sometimes less is more🤭 34:24 - yeah, it's indeed an emulation issue 🤔 36:08 - OH YES, BABYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!! I loved those chinese clones. Btw, chinese mobile developers also tried to copy a couple of other games many-many times, namely Metal Slug, King of Fighters, Contra, Devil May Cry and Adventure Island, but sometimes they even outright ported some of those, don't know if they have had any rights to do this, but you should watch/play those. If you'll need help in finding any mobile ROMs or info about those clones just tell me, I'll try to help ^, ^ Btw, I've completed *Castlevnia: Resurrection* , *Castlevania: The Undead Contract* , *Castlevania: Vampire Castle* , *Castlevania Dungeon* and the whole *Castlevania Demon* series. All of those were translated to russian by some awesome fans in like 2007-2010 39:08 - as I were saying, many of those were translated or at least tackled by fans, so there's a huge chance that that 'castlevania rpg' line was added by someone else (perhaps, by the person who translated the title menu) and not by the developers)) Btw, do you have a link to that one, I've never played it and want to try it out)) 43:24 - actually, all of those were translated to russian, as I've already mentioned.

Have a good day 😁

The funny side of that Empire of Ghosts game, is that the developer (Sintax, I think...) made some asset flips using the same game, but other ip's, like one rip-off of the Zook Hero series (Which itself already was a Mega Man rip-off), and one with Dragon Quest VIII theme. All using the same map, enemy positions and such.

Haunted Castle is regarded as stupidly hard, but it seems to be the opposite case of the idea that the Japanese got the harder game versions. If you play the Castlevania Collection and change it to the Japanese games, it's not much harder than U.S. Super Castlevania. Everything hits for a minimum of twice as much damage in the U.S. version, up to 50% health per hit even in the first level. I have the Switch version though so I don't know if that's actually just a version difference.
@jonathanbetenbender307

That's accurate. I got to stage 5 on the US version, but threw in the towel. Sucks cuz behind that ball crushingly difficult game is a bit of a hidden gem. Way too much artificial difficulty. Super Castlevania was the opposite; I literally only found two spots in the whole game with artificial difficulty (one was a falling platform section under a room). Just wanted to point out I don't actually consider it a hidden gem just that it had untapped potential; it had great graphics for the time and ran smooth, the slow trodding movement actually works for it (every movement has to be done with intention).

Castlevania 1 ports with no wall meat? Sacrilege! There is a SOTN port for Android phones as well. I know a buddy of mine played that on his phone for a while and he said it was actually quite good. Heh, I did actually have Castlevania Adventure for the Gameboy (OG Gameboy, no Pocket, no Color, no Advance). That game was quite sluggish with its controls. I think I got to the third level and I think there were four. I also had the Tiger Electronics Castlevania 2 Simon's Quest. It was... ungood.
