@@nanoskee8270 I agree, whole heartedly. The story of the first game without any of the gameplay that’s repetitive or the extensive mission list. The story just by itself is endearing an awesome. I liked the setting, but the story behind it was pretty convoluted. There are only 3 Castlevania games that takes place in a post-modern 20th century setting. This being the latest (with AOS & DOS being the other 2) Though Letting us play as Dracula himself is an awesome idea!

I don't know... I think I'm in the odd minority, who actually ENJOYED this game very much and more than the first. From combat (very good variety in this aspect and really fun), to exploration (no linearity), to BEAUTIFUL music, to not all but some characters, to voice acting, to interesting boss fights, to cutscenes, to Alucard's DLC, to atmosphere, to just beautiful environments (though I was not a fan of the 'modern' setting, think that was a mistake)... My main problems with this game comes from not an interesting plot and story (though I never play games for the sake of story), very poorly designed stealth sections and stealth in general, and from the general timeline - modern industrial city was a just a huge mistake, in my opinion. Other than those stuff, I'm honestly shocked as to how badly this game was received, because I actually REALLY liked it and enjoyed LoS 2 more than I enjoyed LoS 1. I think this is a very solid game.

On 16:10 The reason Gabriel's vampire killer is the only weapon capable of killing him is because the other combat crosses are not the original/most powerful one made by Gandolfi, they are merely copies of the original, and are not as powerful. (Somewhat similar to how in the main timeline, the Vampire Killer cannot be substituted for another whip).

@cageman3012 жыл бұрын
Probably an unpopular opinion, but I think this one was at the very least on par with the previous game. They improved the combat by giving Dracula new weapons to play with, platforming is much smoother in this one compared to the previous game, and they also brought back the exploration aspect of the series by giving you access to Dracula's castle in the past. The castle sections were always a blast to play through, and the aspects of the weaker puzzles that I hated the most from the previous game were removed. The voice acting is just as good as ever. The things that I didn't like about the game include the removal of certain aspects of platforming (no rope swinging for example), the binding of new weapons to magic (though admittedly this isn't a huge issue in the first place because of the focus mechanic) and the odd placement of certain mechanics (like how the double jump is acquired almost near the end of the game). I also dislike how despite being a vampire, Dracula feels pretty much the same as his old self even with the new weapons and vampiric powers, like they didn't play up his vampiric abilities enough. Most of his vampiric abilities were either substitutes for previous abilities or didn't have much applications in combat. The stealth sections with the Golgoth Guards and Agreus' Maze were tough to sit through. The music also feels like a step down from the previous game. I'd give it a 3~3.5 / 5, probably a 4 if the modern day sections are excluded.

You've summed up my thoughts on LoS2 pretty much word for word. Not a bad game, but a terribly underwhelming sequel to two genuinely great ones. Still sad the Lords of Shadow saga doesn't get the recognition it deserves... Thank you for talking about it!

Looking back, I admit that the game play may have been weak at certain points, but the polt and overall atmosphere of it had me hooked. Plus, I'm a total sucker for tragic hero stories. I love how Dracula casually turns his back to Alucard during their discussion, showing how unthreatingly Alucard is to him and that he has no want to engage with him aggressively. Btw, there is a super easy way to get through the Aggreus stealth section and it's by abusing the mist form. Just rush through the leaves as far as you can on foot and then go mist form before he gets you; proceed to a safe spot in mist form and condense back to normal and wait until your mist power regenerates. Repeat until you get to the elevator. Your welcome.

to answer your question about the Vampire Killer, Gabriel's was the first and one of a kind as as he grew in power, so did it, and all other created after like used by Trevor and his son Simon, are but pale imitations copying Gandolfi's work. Gandolfi never made the later ones, only the one Gabriel owned. also agreed with your retrospectives on this trilogy, makes me wish for a modern remake of the games that touches on the crinkles and criticism and makes each game better to sell as a complete bundle. Gabriel is my favorite character of the franchise with a tragic story to him.

Great review. I always felt that they left the ending open for another installment, even though the developers said that Lords of shadow 2 would be the conclusion of the saga. Now that I noticed Castlevania had this really fun gimmick of having music-themed titles fir their iconic entries. Symphony of the night, Rondo of Blood, Lament of the innocent, Aria of Sorrows… even the Netflix sequel “Nocturne” continues this trend. I like how it adds a certain operatic flair to the titles.

Excellent video! I think the biggest fault of the metroidvania design of the game is that I never get a sense of mastering the environment even with fully upgraded Dracula. New abilities don't create shortcuts for backtracking, and I can't zip around rooftops nor turn into a bat and skip platforming sections for example which makes collecting upgrades bit of a pain. I ended up giving up 100% it partially because I have to navigate some areas in the exact same way as the first time. I also wish they could have revamped the magic system that doesn't require me to stand still to replenish magic meters. That said, the amount of artistry put into this project is quite astonishing. I was in awe for what's displayed on screen numerous times during my playthrough. The pan's labyrinth level is a visual highlight for me. Shame it was used for a frustrating stealth sequence. Lots of the stuff really feel wasted for not belonging to a more thoughtfully and coherently designed game.

i agree with the whole "Gabriel's Cross can be used to kill him", like? How? They just gave the Combat Cross extended stabbing range, they just added a pike at the end of it. Like that's enough? I mean maybe the reason why it worked on regular vampires and Camilla is because it creates a massive gaping hole in vampire's chest, which disrupts their flow of blood so to speak? If that's the case why don't they just used some other long powerful pike to stabs Gabriel? Does it needs to be enchanted? Imo it's unlikely because when we 1st see the upgrade for this, it just have a regular blue aura and nothing else (similar to how the Cross gets other upgrades)

I dont think the castle is completelly imaginary. It looks like it is a phisical place, maybe a little time removed since the worriors appear to fight you. Maybe alucard did something to the castle after he killed dracula. Carmilla could be explained because her blood was once linked to the castle.

I just have to say: 1- the stealth sections are positively not 25% of this long ass game. 15% max. While the compilation you made of the rat sections seem long, they actually aren't. 2- The Carmilla and Agreus stealth sectios: Carmilla's is pretty short and isn't even half bad! It introduces a new mechanic for enemies (the blood puddle that you have to kill or they will resurrect) and Agreus is very intense and yes frustrating but it makes it so much more rewarding when you actually beat the level. Also, I don't know where you were looking or how you even managed to clear the level without using the bells! They are tough to use but... this is a tough level! The best way I can describe the stealth sections (MINUS the Carmilla and Agreus sections which I liked) is: mildly annoying. period.

No, the Golgoth Guards are invincible, it's a strange design choice that Gabriel still had to stealth past them near the end of the game after regaining all his powers lol You can use the bats/mist ability in later stealth sections but it's not very viable due to how slow you move, it was really only the Agreus section that was designed with the mist ability in mind

Lords of Shadow 2 is probably my most disappointing game of all time next to Final Fantasy 15 and MGSV. The first two games were great and set-up for an epic climax. LoS2 had so much potential to be one of the all-time great and was served a recipe of success only to turn out trash. The combat is still one of my favorites, but damn did the botch the story and level design. And don't even get me started on the final boss and ending. Like, wtf? And all of those "guilt" sequences with Gabriel seeing Trevor, Carmilla, and Marie could have been much more interesting if they had a level where Gabriel was temporarily trapped in Hell, only to be saved by Marie. And instead of having those robot mech enemies, have it be the modern iteration of the Brotherhood of Light hunting both demons and Gabriel. Damn, they screwed this game up so bad. I still can't wrap my head around it.

I would love to hear your thoughts on all the uncharted games you honestly have decoded this game perfectly great video!

Thank you! I've thought about either doing a retrospective at some point or at very least talking about The Lost Legacy (which I feel is underrated)

I’m definitely not the first one saying this, but those stealth sections damn near took me out of the experience. Overall I though I thought the game was very well put together all things considered with the difficulty with development

Nice review! The only feedback I’d give is to cut down slightly on the use of clips as jokes to punctuate a point you made. I think your points are strong enough to stand on their own, so many of the the joke clips were unneeded and broke the flow of the episode at times. Otherwise this was very solid!

NGL going over the cons i didnt find the city that much bad overall while the city is mostly bland in design it isnt terrible or very bad i find it decent, i find the rat and stealth sections ok. not awful and not very bad, the ending storywise obviously could have been better. and finally while the enemies were damn good overall a little more variety wouldnt have hurted. to me LoS2 is only a little bit inferior to LoS1, i love both games and consider both of them as possible favorite games material, LoS1 9/10, LoS2 8.5/10.

@@fulanoteateado6509 I actually prefer 2 over 1, with the first was fun but I had the problem that it was SO DAMN LONG. It took me months to complete the game because I couldn´t take anymore, other than that pretty good game, it just that less is more for me, but beside that the game is also better for the obvious upgrades to the graphics and combat. I agree with creator of the game that the stealht isn´t really a notable part of the game. And the city others would say is generic but I really like it the steampunk low life and rich city, if you get me.

@@JuanPablo-su6vw well yes the city technically isnt bad, it is true that it has the nice steampunk low life and rich city thing

@@JuanPablo-su6vw the thing is that you can clearly tell the devs putted way much more effort in the castle than the city, even in LoS1 funnily enough the castle was from beggining to end the very best area

Did Gabriel go back to sleep after confronting Zobek.... Really dude? I quote Zobeck help me and I can free you from your immortality. Gabriel screams having been subject to that much more additional trauma and disappears. What would he do after that?
@mykplaze193 Жыл бұрын
The way the scene is presented is contradictory to scene from LoS1. When Gabriel awakens at the start of LoS2 he's clearly shocked at the realization he's awoken, which would indicate the scene takes place before that LoS1 ending but it doesn't. It's a poorly presented scene that doesn't make sense

For me, the Bloodstained series is the true continuation of Castlevania. Lords of Shadow is more of a different series, a separate ip.

I am so pissed that some of these games were lost to PlayStation players, being abandoned on PS3, without any ports or any competent backwards compatibility. I loved the Lords of Shadow trilogy and it was just left to rot. Same for the old God of War games, Dante’s Inferno, Sonic Unleashed. I am not going to buy an Xbox for 5 games. Luckily I still have access to the steam version, though I don’t really enjoy playing on PC.
