great info on the mounds . i agree with you on the distance from waters edge to the mound . beaver use the water for safety and the farther a mound is from the water , was made during high water .a new mound close to theirs sure fires them up . they will bulldoze the strange mound down every time . seems like they do not stop till every bit of scent is gone . the beaver here , around the edges of their territorial boundaries make mounds that can reach waist high . these are the areas i will target to get the full grown adults . i catch a lot less kits trapping the territorial edges of the colony . i rarely set dens and lodges unless i am trying to take out the entire colony . kind of like farming the beaver colony , leave the young seed . you put out the best information on set construction on the web i have seen yet . well done .

100% agree ! When i make a mound close to theirs , I still set theirs with no scent to nab the nextun . I cant speek for everywhere but they will always freshen the old one up .

Sometimes they do and sometimes not is my finding Otter Cat. Alot depends upon water fluctuating here. Down south yes I agree with you and I intend to do a video on the subject of southern vs northern beaver and my experience with both

I like to add lure down by the waters edge and get that slick going out on top of the water and again up at the mound. Using a good dose of lure in multiple places ups your odds of making a catch. I’m always interested in hearing how other trappers make their sets especially if they are getting numbers of critters. Thanks for the insite Dale!

Thank you Peter for watching. Yes a good oil slick is important in beaver trapping and lure in my opinion

I definitely agree about having the Castor Mound right near the Waters edge. If it’s a steeper bank make a trail and slick it up to make it look fresh and have a #3 guarding the trail. And have a dirt clod in front of the trap so the Beaver doesn’t swim into the trap.

On steeper banks Jim it's better to cut a shelf down low to the water to put the mound on if possible. Thank you for watching

Justin I'm going to check and get confirmation of accomodations for y'all tomorrow. As soon as I do I'll post it in tomorrows video. Like I said I'll put y'all up feed you and give 2 1/2 days of intense instructions. 1 day of water 1 day of dry land and we'll use Sunday to go over anything that anyone needs gone over again.

Dale is it possible to ride the train to where you are at ? I’d be seriously interested in coming if I could find an affordable way to make it there without driving. My rigs are all old square body’s that’d be quite a poke for them I think hahahaha

Blake you can ride the train into Mt. Pleasant, Burlington,Ft. Madison,or Ottumwa Iowa. I'd be more than happy to come to which ever station you come into and pick you up. Then more than willing to take you back to put you back on the train no problem. Just keep me posted on what you decide to do.
