I am an Indian and oiling hair is something I have been doing since I was a kid. It's usually coconut oil and olive oil. When I was a teenager I wanted to try something different and everyone in the internet swore by castor oil so I thought of giving it a try. On top of having a not so sweet smell, I was shocked by how hard it was to wash it off. Its stickiness is one of my pet peeves. I decided to just stick with olive oil.

You’d have to mix castor oil with another non-sticky oil such as coconut oil or as I use Almond oil or even Amla oil. The scalp is what needs the most attention

Coconut Oil and Castor Oil serve different purposes for hair! Coconut oil can penetrate and repair strength on the inside the hair shaft preventing or lessening breakage, the castor oil helps to close the cuticle and coat the outside of the hair strand to protect and prevent/lessen breakage. A blend of both would be optimal!!!

I mix castor oil with almond oil, or sometimes amla oil. Make sure you mix castor oil with some other non-sticky oil it will be much easier to blend and massage on scalp and will wash of easily. You don’t need so much shampoo if you mix both oils. If you put castor oil to your ends it’s only going to end up in you pulling through the hair, ending up in hair fall. I’ve been trying this for about 3-4 weeks now and I can say my hair feels so much thicker. I don’t know about growth but yes it made my hair thick. Make sure you braid you hair in a simple one or a French/Dutch braid and not a bun this ensures that each strand is protected and surrounded by more hair. This helps the oil mix in better rather than a bun. Also please do not keep this in your hair only for an hour to or so, you need to keep it overnight or like me 1-2 days. It really helps in making your hair thick.
@yvel27164 жыл бұрын
I heard from hairdressers that coconut oil doesn't really seep into the hair as much as other hair oils do (like jojoba, argan, almond). It just lays on top of your hair and other than make it shiny doesn't do anything. whereas other oils moisturize, strengthen, and help with head conditions like dandruff
@Tashud0n203 жыл бұрын
It can protect the hair by laying on top of it, but it wont help your hair improve. People think that coconut oil is amazing since it makes your hair shiny, but thats just how it makes it LOOK. When coconut oil goes on ur scalp its an even more big problem since it clogs your little hair holes in your scalp
@saraha55223 жыл бұрын
There's a video out there where a chemist explains how coconut oil and olive oil are the only oils that actually penetrate the hair shaft and they explain why and show how the molecules behave. They also explained that there ARE oils that just sit on top and make your hair shiny, but these oils also help keep the hair healthy as well even though they sit on top because they protect the hair shaft and prevent water from evaporating (if you put them on when your hair is still damp).

Here is something I learned when I visited Brazil.. in order to remove the castor oil from your hair you need to shampoo, condition & finish off with a hair mask... ..the hair mask works by lifting the oil residue from the hair ... as you are giving " food" to your hair you need to use a shampoo and mask that will do the same. I have been following these steps rigorously and have had no problems removing the castor oil from my hair.

Therefore it should rather be used in the hair roots. From personal experience I'd say that coconut oil is better for hair lengths, because it leaves my hair feeling smooth and shiny. When using castor oil in my hair lenghts I often lost a lot of hair because it would stick to my hands because of the oil's viscosity. Hi guys! Hairdresser here just passing along a message! Coconut oil and other oils are not formulated to be absorbed or used on hair (or skin) but rather sit on top of it! That’s why they’re so hard to shampoo out, because they aren’t meant to be shampooed, they just wear off eventually. But the thicker oil is going to be helpful on your ends ONLY because it’ll band them together with the weight. Not saying it’s bad for you or don’t do it, but there’s minimal or no actual benefits to using the raw organic stuff, look for products infused with them and use hair masks infused with oils to have a leave in/rinse out product with some real, tested and proven results. Good luck with all your hair journeys!!! 😁💕

Plus, I almost never apply heat to my hair, unless it's urgent!! Also making sure all tangles are out before getting hair wet, I'm sure ya'll know most of this stuff, but the one thing that is working the BEST is collagen powder!! I highly recommend going to a salon and getting your hair routinely “dusted”. It takes no length of your hair off but drastically reduces the amount of split ends that stick up from the rest of your hair length. It makes your hair feel much better (like the silkiness that you were describing the middle shaft of your hair to feel like) and it isn’t like a trim at all where inches of your hair are taken off. You can even do it at home if you don’t want to pay money for it! I’d look it up right here on YT if you have any questions about what its like/how to do it.

What is a decent carrier oil/what would you rrecommend. Perhaps olive or jojoba?
@rianza45 жыл бұрын
@@fleshiart9272 Yes, either would work! I like using almond oil because it's what I have at home. They both nourish the hair and scalp effectively. If your scalp produces thick oil like mine, I would advocate for jojoba oil because it can help balance out oil production.

Both. Use argan and olive oil and mix all those together. Stop using shampoo heat and hair dyes.

Rather apply any oil on your scalp when your hair is a little dirty . Else it's just gonna sit on the top of your hair and not penetrate properly 😁 . Hope this is helpful...

In order to apply on your hair castor oil you should mix it with a smoother oil, like olive, coconut or argan oil. Also, you can try to apply only on your roots/scalp castor oil and the rest of your hair coconut oil🤗🤗🤗🤗

After years of treatments, products and hair hacks I couldn’t maintain healthy longer hair. I did a lot of research and finally created an awesome recipe of natural ingredients that produced extremely noticeable results. In a plastic bottle I combine 2 oz castor oil, 2 oz vitamin E oil, 1 oz pure aloe Vera gel, and I add about a tbsp of cocoa butter and shake bottle until completely mixed. I’ve been using it for about 6 months (about 2X a week I massage a generous amount onto my head focusing on hair roots about one hour before washing and scrubbing my head with a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner (I love Shea butters restorative shampoo conditioner) and I use everyday on my lashes with a basic lash brush) I also bought some biotin and collagen gummy vitamins since I have a hard time remembering taking vitamins, I keep the gummy’s next to my bed and take 2 in morning or before bed.

Well it’s important to apply oil on ur hair but scalp massage is more beneficial with these oil treatments

Honestly I have never used castor oil for damaged hair! I've always used it in DIY's for hair growth. Whereas coconut oil is great for hydration, anti frizz and it repairs damaged ends. Also, it's helped combat my dandruff
@amnareba93644 жыл бұрын
A tip for the castor oil bc I use it all the time is before you use it, heat it up with a double boiler method and it gets much thinner and it's easier to apply to ur hair😊 don't microwave it tho bc that's bad for ur hair

U have to dilute castor oil in coconut oil n then only use it on your hair! Castor oil really repairs damaged hair. I added it into my coconut oil n emulsified it into the hair n after 3 usages I noticed it repaired my damaged hair.

Gisee Barragan so I have extremely dry hair.. is that low porosity hair? Cause I’m annoyed now..something that’s extremely moisturizing such as coconut oil doesn’t help dry hair?

Faith i think your hair is proteine sensitive. Organicallyanna (a youtuber and instagrammer) talks about it on her instagram and youtube if I remember. She knows a lot about hair so check her out! (She really helped me)

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts. It’s been helpful. I think it has something to do with porosity and I’ve had high porosity hair all my life. Anything I tried never moisturized my hair enough but now that I figured out my hair porosity I might try some better combos

I find it inconvenient to heat oil on the stove and I'm scared of microwaving because it could get too hot or possibly destroy the proteins in a matter of seconds. I like to apply the oil to the scalp, soak a towel in hot water, wring it out, and wrap it around your head to create a mini sauna!

You can get the oil out of your hair after one time of washing when you put your shampoo in your dry hair, oil and water don't mix thats why its working!

It's dry on castor oil side is you need to wash a lot on castor oil side, try mixing 1:2 ratio of castor oil n coconut and you would solve all hair problems

I do these, next time massage the oils and maybe mix them up into your scalp. Rub vigorously for 5-10 minutes . Also add whatever oils I want like argon, olive, jojoba , and others. I then put a shower cap on and leave it in all night. If u can go out in the sun . Your hair looked pretty much the same with both, I know castor is a lot of work but well worth it for anyone wanting thicker healthier hair ! 💛🌼🐝
