I personlly suggest u to read the final vol of gold silver crystal manga and see how much the character GREEN developed The fact that she care for silver and how she overcame her bird phobia just to stop the masked man and his evil plans is something Also in the red blue manga her battle against prof oak in indigo plateau and her sad story literally gave gossebumps In the fire red leaf green chapter when she is just meeting with her parents after 8 years and they got kidnapped by deoxys right in front of their eyes is just emotional

personally i feel like they could have developed her more. she’s a great character, but the phobia of birds always rubbed me the wrong way how she got it over in an instant when a freaking HO-OH KIDNAPPED HER FROM HER FAMILY. (that’s so traumatic 😭) would’ve loved to see that phobia recur so that she learns how to cope with and/or grow from it as she keeps living her life

yeah,,,,, the tough thing is that if the guy is blue and the girl is green, none of them have a color name matching their starter, which is very satisfying cause it makes a loop for me, if you’re going to call the girl blue, you’d also have to swap red and green’s names…. but ‘red’ fits red so much!!!! ;w;

I actually like the XY designs. Unfortunately, I only have volume 1 of XY, so I have no idea how their arcs go. Personally, Sapphire is my favorite character. Mostly because I love her design and personality, but she also seems to have a pretty good arc.

You should definitely re-read BW, imo it’s the best written series and my personal favourite. Black and White are by FAR my favourite design holders and although it’s not super obvious like Silver or Blue (F), they have pretty good development. BW2, despite it’s interesting concepts, is kinda terrible though, so don’t get too excited for it.

X is F tier for me. I know he’s depressed and all, but he does nothing. He almost literally has to get dragged out of the tent on top of the rhyhorn every friggin time. And he can mega evolve 5 mons at a time?! What the fuck?! He does nothing to achieve that other than he’s one of the protags, and he is one of the most passive protags I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t root for him at all

Both White, Black and Sapphire have amazing character development. White deserves S rank, her development towards battling and being honest to herself, as well as learning how to read others better, not to forget her crush on Black, it's all just so cool. Black goes in A, he's a bit dense. Kind of reminds me of Goku, as in he doesn't change at all, yet remains funny and entertaining from the get-go. You could say he's the typical shounen protagonist, except he's actually funny with very original traits. Sapphire should go in S because although her character didn't change much, she was the main bone of that series and Ruby just wouldn't shine as much if she wasn't there. Plus, her development of empathy really grows towards the end (I mean, it's not like she didnt have any, she just didnt use her soft side as much).

Tbf whilst Black's personality doesn't change, we do see growth in him as he is forced to become a more responsible and mature person in order to handle the stress put on him by drayden to become reshirams trainer and defeat N which does lead to him completely breaking character and giving up at one point. And adding on what you said about him being overall likeable in general is why I personally would put him in S.
