Finally the stars were aligned positively and managed to get some one on one sparring with Andrej Valacsay whom you might recognize from some of my other videos. Andrej is very talented, super tall and hits like a truck. He’s naturally a very strong guy so you have to be careful in your approach and not allow him to charge his ultimate nachschlags. The video is longer, hope you don’t mind and please apologize the noise from the nearby road. We weren’t expecting a super heavy traffic like that on Saturday evening and the denoiser tools I was trying screwed with the audio significantly so I reduced it as much as I could to preserve the clashes. Cheers friends.

I watched your videos before I ever sparred. Then sparred heavily across 3 different clubs in London when lock down ended, and went to my first event/pseudo-tourney all while you were on vacation. The result is I came back and am even more inspired by your fencing videos than I was before. Thanks for the videos and the technique to aspire too. Cheers from the UK.

Lovely! I like that you put goals in as it's good to remind folks to always actively work on parts of their game. Can I ask where you found the term "Reitzen" please? Is it historical and if so in which source (s)?
@MartinFabian3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks. I always work on some short-term and long-term goals in my training and I think it's good to have it set. Reitzen nehmen treffen is a concept introduced prominently by Joachim Meyer. It's described in more detail in the Dussack section and I also have a chapter about it in my upcoming book.
@yawningangel81813 жыл бұрын
Many thanks, I'll take a look. Yes I agree that goals are really useful to keep in mind when doing free sparring. Since I started I always kept a few notes after each training so before sparring I check them and generally have 3 specific things that I want to try. The list is endless which is what makes fencing so enjoyable.

Hello Martin! You've been such a huge inspiration and motivation in my HEMA journey. Your workshops are very neat and I'm looking forward for more. Thanks you first for that! You're such a kind human too I was wondering: do you wear an underglove with your SG Mittens ?

Hello Alexandre! Thanks for the kind words :) Yes I wear undergloves else my knuckles get bloody bruises. I wear tactical gloves with extra padding on the aforementioned knuckles bought in a local store for around 12€ a pair :)

Finally a new video! Thanks a lot. For now I don't have an opportunity to train so everytime I can watch your awesome videos it is very wholesome for me😄 I would like to see more new videos, maybe you could add another video to longsword series if there's something to add or even those sparing videos are great. Greetings from neighbouring Moravia😄 I actually wondered if I may wrote it in english or czech, but if someone from another country decided to read my comment and add some like or another comment, he/she could and therefore support my opinion😄

You not allowed to hit legs in this or something? And how can you feel comfortable sword fighting whilst pointing your swords in that direction 😅 even if it's not fencing it should be atleast partially towards the opponent right? Genuine questions from a long time fencer/larp spammer with no hema knowledge
@MartinFabian2 жыл бұрын
We don't usually go for the legs when doing casual practice since it's quite boring 🙂 I'm not sure if I get the second question but there's a multitude of positions you may utilize when fencing. See my video on guards (Longsword 2).
@alexanderhemming61482 жыл бұрын
@@MartinFabian thanks for the reply, it's more like in fencing and even LARP if i don't have the point of my sword directly pointing at the opponent I feel super uncomfortable, and if they have it at me I always feel the urge to hit it out the way, like I have this inbuilt sense of danger from standard fencing teaching you how to maximize the speed of defense/attack. like when you hold your sword pointo to the sword i feel like my (fencing experience) has made me feel like its leaving you wide open, looks really hard to defend with the base of your sword.
@MartinFabian2 жыл бұрын
@@alexanderhemming6148 theoretically speaking you're correct and the best guards in terms of offense/defense ratio are those which point the swords forward. However from some level it doesn't really matter because if you know how to work with distance and provoke or attack point or no point doesn't make almost any difference.
