I always keep the same stance on Sheik's gender, which is what I feel Nintendo was originally going for, which is that Sheik is still a girl because she's Zelda, but posing as a man so people unaware of it think of Sheik as male. To explain the dresses: in games most of the time models are rendered with blackface culling, meaning you can only see faces from one side. That way stuff on the other side of the model that you can't see isn't being rendered. For the dress, the main part is modeled on the inside so you can see it, but the trim only faces outward. That's why it seems to disappear.

I'm pretty sure the peach dress effect is on purpose, I wouldn't consider it an "inconsistency" from what I can see, it was done to exaggerate the angle at which the model is viewed. That one of the parts of the dress is much higher creates a slightly more dynamic effect. maybe to accentuate her heels. Let's consider that unlike other smash games, (can't remember if this happened in smash 4) the models now gently look towards the viewer. We no longer see them completely in profile, so i think this was a conscious decision from the developers. many times in art it is prioritized that something looks good more than correct, many times the correct thing does not look as correct as we imagine it.

For the Daisy hearts thing, there was a similar phenomenon with Wolf and Fox's lasers in a pjiggles video a while ago. My theory is that because these characters were likely copied from other characters at some point in the series, some of their assets still point to locations in their source character's files. Because of this, these assets are only present when the source characters are loaded. Daisy's heart particles are already present in Peach's other moves like uptilt even back in Smash4, though back throw it self did not use them. This means they either made Daisy's back throw with Peach's particles as placeholder and forgot to change it while also not updating Peach, or Peach's throw was updated with particles and disabled some time after Daisy was made. Edit: I just remembered Daisy's turnips used to have Peach's smash 4 properties. This means Daisy was likely copied while Ultimate Peach was being worked on.

I have a possible reason for why the sound files might be saved separately this game. As someone who does audio stuff (particularly music), when you do mixing, it can be useful to have multiple files instead of one so that you can adjust the volume and balance with the backing track. Given that the backing track has swells and dips, I would assume that they wanted to be able to have the entire quote be audible through whatever changes in audio during the victory theme, same with if a move has special effects sound effects along with voice lines (increasing the audio on the voice lines that might be covered by sound effects to make them more audible, decreasing the volume on voice lines in isolation, etc).

I was looking in the daisy hearts, and it seems the original code creates an effect called 'peach_smash_heart' on back throw, though the effects for a character are usually called after the character's name, for example she has an effect called 'daisy_smash_skillet', so it should say 'daisy_smash_heart' instead, it looks like a leftover, funnily enough the effect 'peach_smash_heart' isn't found anywhere on peach's code for back throw So what it looks like it is happening here is that daisy is borrowing an effect from peach, therefore peach must be loaded in the battle, though I thought that wasn't possible

My theory on the ice climbers being affected by stance mirroring despite having a weapon at all times is because the original ice climbers game had sprites which would be flipped, and this is just a subtle nod to that, since Nintendo likes to do that.

My best guess, as a game developer, is that peach's and daisy's dress frills are rendered as "Planes". These are infinitely thin, flat surfaces where only one side is rendered and textured. If you want to know more look up, "planar mapping" or just "planes."

The likely answer for both Peach's victory line being split, along with Nana's bat chargeup voice, is that the voice lines are probably tied to animation frames. So, it's natural that Nana would keep her bat VO timing no matter which position she's in, and the "aww" "did I win" were likely split to allow precise timing of each half during the very quick victory animation

The reason some parts of the model disappear on one side is because of a thing called "model culling," where the vertices don't render on one side of the model. Some parts of the models have inner-culling, meaning the inside is transparent, while others have outside-culling, meaning the outside is transparent (for example, like Rosalina's dress which has a galaxy pattern on the inside but not on the outside). The reason for this is so that its easier for the game to render instead of rendering every side of each object at once. Often times though, many of the model objects have no culling, making them visible on both sides.

For Sheik's gender, the way I see it: If I'm an actress for a play, and play a male character, despite me being an actress, the character itself is still a man. The reverse is also true, if I'm a male actor, and play a woman, that character is still a woman regardless of my gender. Sheik is a character played by Zelda to remain undetected while the world is in Ganondorf's power. Sheik is a man, because that's part of the role Zelda is playing as him!

Regarding the move names that are in the moveset tables, there's a couple things about that. First is that the wiki's stance on move names is that they must be official, either mentioned in the game, an instruction book, official strategy guides (Prima doesn't count because it is consistently poor quality), etc. Second is that if there is no official English name, an official Japanese name is used that would be translated. Finally, there is a Japanese wiki that lists the names that are currently on the wiki. They got their names from a Japanese strategy guide that says it is official and was tweeted out by the Official Smash JP twitter account, so the wiki deemed it an official strategy guide and thus used it for names. A couple editors who know Japanese or know someone who does took up the task of adding the move names. It took a bit but the project is complete. Note that the strategy guide was released before Joker was added in the game and so it doesn't have any info on the DLC characters.

By the way... In Peach's idle animation she's not actually checking her nails (she's wearing gloves), she's actually looking at her ring. Most people don't notice it (or if they do they don't think much of it) but in Smash and only in Smash, Peach has a square-shaped gem ring on her middle finger (not her ring finger... because that would imply she's married, which she's not).

Basically a Metroid situation, as in the original Metroid games pamphlet guide they exclusively use He and him to hide the fact that Samus, a name thats pretty ambiguous gender-wise, is actually a girl. Of course samus is so well know at this point even having a separate character for her Zero suit in smash that they don't really hide she's a girl amymore. Shiek is a slightly different case as the whole purpose of her existence is too throw people off and hide as opposed to Samus who just... Doesn't bother hiding anything and it's just common for her to be armored all the time.

The Bowser glitch may be some leftover spaghetti code from how Bowser's down air used to work if used out of hitstun. It would function as normal but it wouldn't plummet. Bowser would just use down air at his normal falling air speed. This was present in Smash 4 and early SSBU, but was patched out.

To explain the heart thing: Daisy was made using Peach as a base. When coding her, they replaced hearts with flowers, and must've done something wrong with the indexing i.e not properly telling the game "yo, this belongs to Daisy specifically". So the game thinks that that's just how Peach's hearts look like. When the real Peach's in the math, however, there's conflicting data for how the hearts are supposed to look like in the 'backlog' of effects, so the game just picks one of them. Peach's. The explanation might not be 100% accurate since I've never actually messed with Ultimate, but I've encountered this same exact issue in another game whose files I regularly look at and modify; it makes sense that it'd work the same way with Ult.

The peach dress thing is just backface culling, a trick 3d developers use to make 2d planes not render on one side of the mesh to save on resources, however they forgot to model a secondary model for the other side, or perhaps it was intentional because you won't be able to see it too easily, the entire dress on the side is actually backfaces on the inside as well so the entire dress mesh is actually modeled twice, something important like that deserves it but that one strip of lace on peach and daisy wasn't on their priority list. It appears on other characters in different places just not so easy to see spots.

i think the reason for the voice line inconsistency is just that this is something done often when designing a game; certain sounds are spliced for multiple reason; ease of movement, if you only need a certain part of a voice line (eg. to make changes), then you may well just want to cut it in half and take the part you need. there are multiple other reasons that this is done (i dont know them, i dont know this from experience i've just heard it from my friend), but ease is a big factor, especially considering that the sound has 2 distinct parts

The effect where parts of the model just disappears is something called "back-face culling". It's where if polygons are facing away from the camera, it doesn't get rendered. This saves processing power because typically these aren't supposed to be seen from the wrong side. You can see this effect in many games. Have you ever played a game where if the camera goes inside the model, the model seemingly goes invisible? Same effect. This is easily fixable just by adding a few more polygons on the opposite side, so the modelers either didn't account for this to occur, or just didn't care as it is barely noticeable and doesn't impact gameplay or graphical fidelity any bit.

I’m a modeler and the back of those parts of the dress for both peach and Daisy not showing is known as what’s called backface culling. This is so the game doesn’t have to render parts of the model that won’t be seen. For the case on the bottom of the dress it’s such a small detail that the devs thought it wasn’t necessary to render. For the neck area it’s the same thing, no reason to render the inside of their shirt. Got to the ice climber part and it’s the same thing. The bottom part of the of their coats might be a bit different but it’s probably the same thing.

ok, i posted this on the last video but i wanted to repost in hopes that pk notices. On the topic of incorrect jumping with spirits: this happens when a move affects your movement, like the two you used, and donkey Kong's cargo throw. for some reason the moves movent change overrides the spirits movement change after a small window. E 2 Add a reply... demigod279 · 6h ago i have a dk spirit team that uses 4 lightweight spirits, and you jump int the blast zone. however, when you grab and carry your opponent, you jump a normal height. this can be surpassed by buffering a jump during the grab animation.

Daisy having the heart effects on her back throw when Peach is present is likely an error due to her being built off of Peach. A similar issue happens with Wolf's Blaster when Fox is present.

Random smash fact: if greninja does a down smash with any battering item (and some other items) ,it will do a weird flip or turn (depending on the item) before returning to its original place

The Peach/Daisy thing is the model not having double sided or polygons to both sides. Normal polygons are only viewable from one side and double sided basically just copy original and flip the view direction (normal) or in some cases flip the normal to the camera direction. A lot of modern game engines show them from both sides but it's more taxing on performance (but easier to work with), I imagine Smash isn't one of those games.

The model shenanigans for Peach and Daisy. 1. for Peach the part that disappeared isn't the same as the part that's high 2. The part that disappears is not supposed to be seen from inside, so it's not textured and thus saves on ressources, the same thing for Model Gaps

you know how in the last video how bayonetta would have a rose come out of her when she was shot with a lazar? it is actually kind of the same with real smash! if you get the big lazar weapon (that lasts a decent amount of time) and shoot bayonetta with it she will have multiple roses come out of her! i discovered this ages back in training mode! shout out maybe? idk... you choose! :D

8:03 - I wonder how well-known the version with PAC-MAN's 7650-point things (final smash, right victory pose, PAC-LAND), which are a similar pun on ナムコ, are... Other ones I've seen used include 573 for コナミ (not in Metal Gear because I never played that, but it shows up all the time in IIDX and DDR), 2424 for ぷよぷよ, and 7110 for ナイト (in Kirby: Planet Robobot). 9:50 - I have replays saved where I casually do that in actual online matches.

@@meta04 I'd say it's still a rather relevant game. Forgotten Land does do much better... but they feel unusually similar actually. If you ever get around to it, it has been agreed to be possibly the best Kirby game so far.
