The robin trip thing is most likely because they gave him trip immunity during the thoron casting animation to avoid animation bugs, but due to some coding error the trip immunity doesn't have an end flag

More than likely yes, this. Probably just made a type on the end flag, which happens sometimes, and since the code cant recognize the end flag cuz of the typo, it just doesnt happen. Youd be surprised how often this happens even in the most polished of games lol

It's something you see often with moves that have different framedata on the ground and in the air -- landing/slipping off an edge mid-attack can cause some wonky effects, such as causing sword trials to linger or invincibility frames to last the entire move, since it's possible to "skip" these triggers given that they happen at different times whether you're on the ground or in the air. Thoron was made a lot faster in smash ultimate, so maybe they sped it up too much and thus it never reaches the part of the animation that disables the anti-trip effect?

I don't have any experience with how Smash works internally, but perhaps Thoron uses a special state similar to armour on a lot of moves to allow it to finish and not be interrupted by tripping, and they forgot to have Robin exit that state afterwards. So once activated, they're trip-proof until they respawn, which resets all states. Just speculating. I could legitimately see that effecting the outcome of a pro match some time.

Pac-Man's trampolines used in his up B are a reference to the arcade game Mappy by Namco. The trampolines start out as green when they haven't been used, and then become blue, yellow, red, and then break just as in Smash. However, I'm not sure why the trampoline became green after getting damaged in the trailer, as this would signify that it becomes 'unused' which doesn't make sense. Also, I tested Robin's state of 'untrippability' against an Inkay from a Pokeball, but unfortunately Inkay's trip is considered 'special' just like a banana peel, so Robin can't become immune to it.

Pretty sure that for Palutena, the dodging sound effect is supposed to be a reference to KI: Uprising, since Pit's is also taken straight from the game. So rather than have it be the "teleport" sound effect it's more just a reference, hence why it applies to the directional air-dodge despite her not disappearing.

A lot of Namco games have the 765 number reference in them, heck, Pac Man's final smash does it as well with the score for hitting consecutive enemies doubles the "score" he gets until reaching 8000 where it instead displays 7650.

I like Kirby being the starter character in WoL. Since he can get other fighter abilities, it can both encourage new players to try and fight new characters in order to see their ability, and helps them figure out which character they wanna play as once they find a copy ability they like.

I may be wrong, but in the pac man trailer, while its hard to tell, it looks like there are hit particle effects off screen when the water is interacting with samus, so that further supports the theory of pac mans water being a hitbox instead of a windbox during development before they changed their minds

For pacman's final smash animation, I didn't even notice they removed the pellets he eats D: We gotta get pacman a meal! I think the animation still works, like it can also be viewed as him just raising his arms up, looking up with his mouth open as he is enjoying the rush of energy, then smiling back at the camera to show he's ready to transform. Though, I will always see his final smash as him just eating the pellets.

The trip immunity is semi niche but in the Kazuya, DK, Kirby matchups specifically, it's pretty influential since if your opponent isn't aware the trip wont work, they can maybe be punished for it... Robin is slow and needs all he can get. DK, Kirby and Kazuya all make use of trip combos.

In the Chinese names for Byleth, the male name is 贝雷特 (bay-lay-tuh), and the female name is 贝雷丝 (bay-lay-sih). As far as I can tell, it’s for the same reasons you brought up for the Japanese versions (masculine vs feminine), but interestingly the male version is usually how they translate the name “Berrett.” I think this probably a coincidence. Also, bonus thing I noticed in one of your other videos that talked about the names, the Chinese name for Pac-Man is 吃豆人 (chur-doh-run), which literally means “eat bean man,” which I find really funny for some reason, haha.

To clarify the wording at 12:51 re: "The Slip Effect". Pretty much every hitbox has an "effect" coded. In most cases it is just visual stuff like "flame" causes the fighter to be on fire, "coin" (on Super Jump Punch) causes coins to appear, "magic" (not to be confused with the "type" of the same name) causes sparkles, etc. However, some actually do things like "electric" causes more hitlag, "sleep" puts fighters to sleep, "flower" adds a flower to the character and does damage over time, and "slip" forces a trip (unless you have Trip Immunity spirits). Ruben (a prominent Smash researcher) says that Thoron seems to bypass the trip chance calculation; why it does that to begin with is a mystery. Also, that trivia was added within 12 hours of Archmage's tweet. It may be a bit difficult to make a full video in that time.

robin's announcer thing may be because he has two spanish names, in latin america they are called robin, while in spain they are called daraen (as far as i know), and with byleth even though the announcer calls them byleth, in japanese they are called "beretto" and "beresu" for the male and female respectively

Bayonetta has slain countless amounts of angels (her main enemies) and demons (something went wrong with Bayonetta's relationship with demons in Bayonetta 2). She even has killed her world's God (Jubileus) and defeated the god of chaos (Aesir). It was pretty obvious because they could connect Galeem with Jubileus for Bayonetta and Dharkon with Hades for Palutena. This is also the reason why Pit and Dark Pit were shown in her original reveal trailer because she actively hunts for angels to feed her demons, be a sassy sadist, and acquire golden halos.

Bayonetta lore: The angels Bayonetta fights have their home known as Paradiso (or Heaven). Demons come from Inferno (or Hell, also Rodin's bar is the Gates of Hell). Angels and demons reside in a parallel plane of existence called Purgatorio, and Bayonetta can freely travel there to fight them, otherwise they're invisible except with special lenses (that Bayonetta uses) and intangible except if you were to strike with an object (physical objects will work fine, mainly in the first game where you protect Young Cereza and Bayo can't punch the enemies). Some people thought maybe Bayo could survive Galeem's attack in Purgatorio, but she's not actually travelling anywhere different, it's a parallel plane where Galeem probably already touches.

Like Bayonetta and Kirby were the only ones who are able to out run galeem based on how they move in their respective universes. Then it came down to how popular/well known the character was. For the survivor of Galeem, they chose Kirby because he is the ultimate beginner character, and they wanted to prepare for new players who start with WoL. Yes, he has faced and defeated multiple universe ending threats like Galeem, but I'd like to make it clear as a Kirby fan that Kirby has *never* flied faster than the speed of light before. In fact, he doesn't actually ride the Warpstar that often either. It makes sense that Kirby could defeat Galeem, but it doesn't actually line up with the lore for him to *flee* Galeem. Edit: Actually, I think the Warpstar may indeed have the ability to travel faster than the speed of light, so Kirby's escape could indeed be canon.

If you pay attention in-game when Kirby is riding a warpstar, he is often seen flying into the background before he disappears in a sparkle of stars. The Wiki suggests that this could actually be Kirby teleporting to the next area, instead of simply being a basic animation. Upon that, with reflection on the literal name of the Warpstar, it would make sense that it could travel at 'WARPSPEED'; ie, fast enough to travel through dimensions. In this case, I think I can safely recede my argument. The Warpstar must have had the ability to travel through spacetime the entire time and I just never payed enough attention to notice. Thanks!!!
