Super cool taking advantage of the natural shape of the wood. I really like it a lot. I keep watching for your next triumph! Keep up the amazingly good work!

Those figured “heal overs” can be quite a challenge. One never knows in advance how the dead branch inside will influence the final result. Good job bringing out a successful finished project.

Is the gouge bevel below center when you start roughing?
@CASWoodcraft7 ай бұрын
Usually. In this case it was right at about center level and I angled it down just a touch to bring the tip below the center level

I'm a staunch "my shop, my rules" kind of guy, but I have to ask. Were those drywall screws?

Yep. All I had that was long enough.

If you had asked what type of wood this was, I could have given a hundred guesses and still not got it right. Even after it's done, I still am thinking it's Elm. Very cool. Usually, these don't get to stay together till the end. Good job.
@CASWoodcraft7 ай бұрын
I’m pretty sure it’s walnut. I’ve never worked with elm that had that kind of grain. Also the elm I’ve worked with has a pretty open grain and this grain is tight.

@CASWoodcraft oh I believe you. I'm seeing it through a camera. I'm just trying to convey the amazement of how unique every piece of wood can be. I've made some really cool stuff from black cherry burls formed around a cut limb cap. Never know what's going to be these things.
@pavloszimbrakos44106 ай бұрын
Very cool but not very practical for use because of the bottom having a big hole in it so you should’ve filled it in but otherwise great job!
