It doesn’t sound bad. However if you do decide to put a muffler on it. I highly recommend the flowmaster flow FX muffler. They sound amazing on these Ls motors

Because it’s not calibrated. When you do a 5 speed swap on these, the speedo needs calibrated before its accurate.

He probably got it re-geared & well also the 5.3 swap also & probably has not tuned it for 5 .3 & new gear ratio I know mine did that when it got it's new gear ratio before it got tuned also that truck needs a custom tune due to being straight pipe probably don't run correctly at all

Yeah when the instrument clusters go out in these, they REALLY go out. It's always either: A: the whole thing dies and stops working randomly while driving B: A single gauge is a bit fucky wucky but the rest are fine C: all the lights go out. ISS Automotive makes remanufactured clusters and even adds the transmission temperature gauges to them aftermarket. Been doing it for years. I ordered one myself but it hasn't come in yet, since I just ordered it yesterday. Shame GM decided to store the mileage and engine hours inside the cluster instead of inside the ECM, because they would otherwise be entirely plug-and-play, even between a 1500, 2500 and 3500 and between the trucks and SUVs.
