@@surfwriter8461 Approaching and trying to pet her or being in what she considers to be her personal space are all very much things that would bother an anxious cat. Some cats don't want you to go up and pet them, and if you do it all the time, it'll piss them off. As for fighting cats on the street, she likely considers the streets to be her territory and is defending it. Given that the owner's dad is the one the cat likes, she should really observe what it is about her dad that calms the kitty down. I'm guessing that he probably visits when things are quiet and that he didn't try to bother the cat. I agree though, if the dad wants the cat, I think it would be much happier with him, or if they just completely leave the cat alone and let it do it's own thing, it will probably chill out some over time. lifting the cat, taking her off balance, turning her upside down, entering her space, movements and laughter are even percieved as threatening to her. the cat is trying her best to comnunicate with these people but they completely ignore her language. it is one of the most painful things for me to watch... like seeing a person beating an agressive acting dog or a child in public. especially when the animal/child is responding to the owner/parents aggitation and stress expressions. cues are taken from owner/parent on a biochemical level. so the one wishing to control the situation must stay calm if they sincerely wish to interact with this being differently. it is not always intentional evil, unfortunately, many of them do so, not intentionally in ignorance or out of habit because lack of fully understanding the other beings impetus or communication attempts.

Yes, you should! The cat is clearly uncomfortable around you, you are just hurting the cat by trapping her with you. If she hates kids, stop bringing kids to her! The kid literally tried to throw something at the cat, no wonder she hates kids. She shows a liking to the dad. He was a big boy - 20+ pounds, and only slightly overweight - so he absolutely terrified everyone. When I was away for a week, he chased the cat-sitter out of my apartment. When I renovated my house, he intimidated and backed one of the workers into a corner, and wouldn't let him leave (the poor guy had to call me for help!). After I moved in with my wife, it took a year for the cat to stop trying to scratch her when she reached out to pet him. And, yet, when our son was born, that astonishingly mean old cat was a puddle of love from the first minute. He let my kid do anything to him. Tail-pulling, fur-messing, sitting on him, using him as a pillow. He let my son pick him up by the loose skin on his back, and carry him around like a purse without so much as a growl. Mean cats are, secretly, the best cats. You just have to be patient, and love them unflinchingly.

You don't own them. Once they pick you as the target of their trust and love, you're doomed. And yes we have to set boundaries for the cats. Yes we are the actual alpha cat -- just don't tell them. They didn't get the email or that lesson @ cat college. But I have my spray bottle (I fondly call the bozo blaster and it works ).. One lady once said that I was abusing my cats because I sprayed them with water. I said well what do you do. She says I yell at them. And I just looked at her like OK how is yelling and screaming at a cat a better solution vs getting them a little wet & them clean themselves up (divert) and rethink if What they were doing & was it worth getting soaked over. Generally the answer is meow-hell-no. And then after a while if they wanna go back to the behavior (or they find a new one to get into that might kill them in the process by mistake), whatever I have in my hand at the time (pencil. pair of tongs, hair brush), They will laser focus on that item and think it is The evil invader and it's going to make them wet, they will turn around and leave. And if they're a little more feisty you might have to make the spray bottle noise. Just to convince them that a hairbrush really is a spray bottle. Ha ha. Bit no harm done. Sorry for ramble. But this girl is not respecting the cats territory. She thinks she can drag this cat everywhere around and that is how he is supposed to behave. Cause she expects the cat to act out. If I was the cat I'd slit her throat in her sleep. And then I would get sent to live with the dad. Hmmm..maybe that might be the solution to happiness. Ha ha. Everyone be safe. Peace. Blessings. She’s not mean, she’s fearful, so she’s striking out before she gets attacked, she just needs to have her space and let her make the decision whether she wants to come out and talk or be petted or whatever. Also the fear and trepidation that you have around her triggers her fears. Grandpa is not afraid of her and so he exudes calmness and affection and that’s why she likes him.
@HHUK2 жыл бұрын
I agree on the fear part, especially for traumatized cats. My cat hates men because her old owner treated her poorly, if you approach with fear her mind goes into a panic, if you just go ahead and pet her or pick her up she doesn't have time to worry and accepts it. Displaying confidence can help put them at ease.

Just the phrase ‘I think she senses their happiness and innocence and that’s why she doesn’t like children’ is telling enough that the cats human has a bias and is projecting onto her cat. Cats will rarely go out of their way to attack, they usually attack when they perceive a threat, are in pain or are over stimulated. Cats are both predatory and prey, and very aware of that fact. They are extremely intelligent and resourceful enough to know when to engage and when to disengage. Getting the cat checked out incase she has any sort of psych issue would likely be the best first step, once that’s ruled out- creating a safe environment where she can trust her boundaries will be respected would be the next step. Then, perhaps a steady routine with a lot of ‘hands free’ interactive play so she can have an outlet for that activated energy and associate that with human interaction might help regulate her. I haven’t seen what the actual home environment is like for her, so those are the best suggestions I can come up with, but I’m guessing her ‘behavioral issues’ have less to do with her and more to do with the humans she is around. That poor cat.

I really hope that this family is able to give this cat the peace and patience that is needed for her home life. My husband adopted a feral orange female tabby a few years before we started dating. She was not used to anyone but him and was very angry to have myself and my dogs invading her territory when we first started dating. She stalked me and the dogs and would regularly pop us if we got too close. It took about a year of regular visits and completely giving this cat her space before she let me pet her. She slowly began accepting myself and my dogs as her family. Now 10 years later she sleeps on my chest at night and regularly curls up on me for cuddles. Animals can tell you what they need if you give them the space to and if you can remove your own ideas of what you think animal ownership is. I am honored and grateful for the experience of love and friendship that our cat has taught me.
@jenniferloftus23632 жыл бұрын
Yes, I love this story you've told. I have heard so many people do the opposite and it is sad. The person who you moved in with had a cat. That cat believed your future husband was her territory and his house was hers. You were brought in, uninvited (by her) and the dogs were also uninvited. I have had this experience. My husband was ok to move in but his dog was not needed, according to my cat. The dog had to learn to live by her rules. You didn't get too close or you got popped. And like what I consider to be normal, you didn't keep pressing the cat. It is true there was a chance she would never have accepted you, but she would probably get to ignore you. You were obviously willing to take either option as it came and you got rewarded. I hope anyone reading this is inspired to do the same.

To be fair, something is definitely wrong with this cat, and she needs help. This is not normal for a cat to hate so much that it strikes out at everyone and everything in her/his way. You need to find out what the problem is, so that your family and Nannoos can exist and share your home together. It is awful to be scared to death of an animal who you have brought into your home. I find this highly unusual for the Ginger cats. My first two Ginger cats were exceptional. They accepted and loved everyone, and co-existed with the dogs to the point where they were best friends and slept together, went on walks together, and the cats even groomed the dogs! I could sling the Dude over my shoulder and he would just lay there and ride along all day if you let him. Kids would pick him up and he would lay like a baby in their arms. Did you rescue this kitty or did you get her at the shelter. Female Gingers are more rare as they are usually male. I ADORE all animals and believe they all need a chance at life. If anything, this kitty belongs with her granddad, she has bonded with him, and loves him. The kids and your family deserve a cat that will fit in to the family and create joy and happiness, peace and love.

I mean technically she’s treating a cat like a cat, but she needs to understand her cats feelings and what makes her cat comfortable. Like doing research on why her cat is acting like that.

actually taking the cat to walk is ok, the abuse comes when she keep bringing the cat to others animals instead of taking him to a quiet place with no other dogs or cats
@Kewlausgirl2 жыл бұрын
@@ltm9262 plus how she treats the cat at home. She hasn't made that bond with the cat, down it can trust her. They constantly are going right up into its space instead of letting it come to them. That cat needs to have a safe space created and a few pheromone diffusers around the house. Then it needs to be slowly and gently reintroduced to everyone in it's terms. They need to show and build that trust with it again. Poor kitten is so stressed and lashes out at everything because it's constantly having its space being disrupted.

It’s not about her treating the pet like a dog or cat. It’s respecting it’s boundaries. My dog is shy and uncomfortable around other dogs and doesn’t like sudden loud noises. Having any pet requires respecting it’s boundaries and limits. The cat is clearly scared and this person is refusing to respect the poor thing’s boundaries.

Yaaaas we love a stressed out pet without boundaries! You know what I do with my dog that does not like children? He gets muzzled, stays in his bed and is not approached by my little sister when she is over. Because it stresses him out! Why would you force an already stressed out animal to interact with a thing that obviously stresses them out more??? Also... She must be a joy at the vets *gag* I can just see her almost tearing a vet tech apart and her being like "Nanooos... Don't dooo that hahahaha"

My sister had a toy poodle who didn't like kids because he had been abused by some neighbor kids but loved me because I was always calm and gentle with him and had known him before he was abused. I was the only child he trusted until my sister had her two girls and from the time they were babies they were taught how to treat animals. He died at the age of 21 and I miss him so much!!

the cat isnt being fighty or hating everyone; shes afraid. like look: if u were afraid, you would definitely be defensive and maybe even face your fear and fight it. same goes with the cat. the cat is being surrounded by noise, kids and too much people. she needs space. if shes comfortable with her dad, she should give her to him. she is happiest with her dad and she deserves to be with who shes happy with. besides, it lowers the risk of her stress (cats stress).
