Haha you mean eat them right? That's what cats are known for. Bringing small rodents to your doorstep and leaving them there for you to find later. This guy just happend to be there and the animal isn't dead yet. I am sure the one the cat bit will be dead soon tho. It takes a little time. I think the human wanting to help the squirrels and the way he is saying good girl to his cat has everyone confused and actually believing cat was saving them. When this is so normal when they kill animals. It's the cats way of providing food for you, just like you do for them. Of course we don't want it though.

Well that's possible now. Squirrels are like birds where if you touch their babies they won't take em back. However they are AMAZING little acrobatic pets! @@witebatman I have also returned birds to their nests as a child and told the adults who then helped me watch to see if the parents came back for them and saw the things I explained previously. This was prior to ever hearing the wives tale. I've also raised a squirrel from a demo house who's parents refused to take the whole litter back that we had to touch to keep them from being crushed. So please explain why none of the birds were taken back nor was a single squirrel from said litter. They couldn't all be sick or damaged which animals seem to have a 6th sense about when refusing to take them back or killing it themselves.

@@EkkoMr Yeah that could be why the cat wasn’t interested in hurting the baby squirrels cause it wasn’t like they were running around, so it wouldn’t be hunting them; but I’ve heard of friends’ cats and dogs injuring and killing little bunnies and other small animals just for fun, not necessarily to eat them since they were well fed already. That’s why this cat not doing so still amazes me. Love this vid.

Some cats are just genuinely so intelligent like this. We had a Persian named Shadow, and both times our hamster got out he found her and helped us to get her. 1 time she got into the wall and he sat there meowing for 3 days until we finally went "Wait, what if the missing hamster.... is in the wall?" He was probably thinking we were morons the whole time, but we only found her safe and sound because of the cat.

@@threestans9096 I think that is what's happening here though. She just didn't have the chance to kill. And she was showing where they were at. My cats used to do the same thing. We even had one who would bring them to our beds when we were kids (my sisters bed to be exact) but most were left right infront of the front door like in this. I guess we will never know what's really going on. I was always told the cats do it to provide food for us just like we do for them. Never heard it was to teach us to fend for ourselves. That one sounds a bit odd to me considering they see us fending for ourselves and them everyday by feeding them. But again we have no way of knowing for sure.. Sometimes, animals have more sense then ppl. My cats won't eat if it's not cat food, they may kill it, but not eat. I think if their inside cat they're condition different. Now, my last cat was an outside cat and even though he ate cat food, he would still hunt, play with whatever he caught, before killing it, and leaving partial on the front porch. Sometimes, God use animals to get our attention to something that needs urgent care. That's a sweet cat. They sounded like kittens, also.

If baby squirrels have any other creature touch them leaving a different scent on them the mother abandons them leaving them to die, and baby squirrels are super hard to raise. They can't do anything on their own not even pee, you have to manually stimulate them to do it or you'll kill them.

Interesting fact: squirrels actually can have up to 5 alternative nests set up and if the one they initially choose doesn't work out, they'll move their babies to the next one. I learned it from a group that gets them out of people's roofs and walls. They take them out and put them in a box so they're warm and momma comes and retrieves them and moves them to a new nest already set up.they even counted one that had 8 alternative nests. Absolutely amazing! Glad this dude and his cat got them out of the cold. Warm 'em up and put them in an open box and momma will find them.❤

Our male pit was protective of injured animals and babies also and he was raised as a fighter before I found him. He was too kind to be in a ring so was dumped - I found him walking down the street with old and new injuries. We later came to find out his history. Loved him for the remainder of his life. Best and smartest of the many dogs we had.

I love how the cat stood back and kept glancing over to where the other baby squirrels were. Piper is a smart cat.

@@ayoni02thebadgamer39 There were some feral cats that lived next door to my Grandmother's house who would have done the same thing. The LOOKED and SOUNDED sweet, but they killed and ate everything. The squirrels kept to the roof or the electric wires. They never dared walk on the ground.

@@designpainter3193 that’s because they’re doing for survival, they aren’t given any free food. However the cat in video is a cat that gets free food, and doesn’t have to worry when the next meal is going to be. For an example my cats only hunt if it’s gets to close to the house, they don’t actively go off and hunt. They have caught many birds, mice, and even snakes. My personal cat likes to dance with death, loves playing with snakes. Scares the heck out of me; I don’t know which type of snake he has, until I go get it from him. One time when my mom caught him playing with a snake, she immediately called me to send me after it. She thought it was a rattlesnake, however it was only a bull snake; we tried saving it but he had only did damage to it. It couldn’t have been saved. (My family members live rurally in northern part of the US, so we try to have small hunting dogs, Or cats that can catch mice and other animals.)

@@Zaniya3 Sounds like your cats have a great life and a variety of different things to do. The cats I was writing about earlier lived on the South Side of Chicago. I never worried about any mice or rats wandering into my Grandmother's yard. The cats had all the so-called pests under control.🙂 My Grandmother used to feed them as well. She gave them leftover dressing or dirty rice. They ate everything! The pan was always licked CLEAN! I never knew that cats were omnivores until I met THOSE cats.

@@designpainter3193 dressing and rice probably would explain their strong desire to hunt. That is nowhere near the nutrition or kind of food cats need. Especially ones on the streets.
