This song is from a double album called Alpha Omega, totally written by David Gordon, and produced by Cat Stevens, which sung this song on the album. David Essex, BTW., sung two other songs on the same album (but not this one): "I, Who Am I", and "World". Gloria Jones also sang two songs on this album, which are among the best, IMO: "Listen To Me", and "Father, I'm Coming Home" (this last one together with the Covent Garden Opera Singers choir, which was featured in several songs of the album). This is a superb album, IMO, but wasn't re-released in CD, AFAIK.

The world knows him better as Cat Stevens before he even crossed over to Muslim in 1977, and changed his name to Yusuf Islam in 1978. The song Child For A Day was written by his brother David Gordon and Paul Travis. His brother gave him the book of Quran in 1976 when the song was recorded. The song was actually released on the album Izitso in 1977.

So sad that one of his best albums-Izitso- was really his last. I had a deposit that summer on some tour he might be planning but it was a ticket broker scam. I know he became a jihadist but I pray that maybe he can return and help this struggling world with his awesome musical talents.

This video is so sad, I wish people like me could find a way to give five or ten dollars to help these children that are sick, you can see some of the sick ones in this audiance.....I have almost nothing but I would do that little bit for these kids, they break my heart.....please others help figure out how we can do this.....The little boy who was yaning and he had a job holding his eyes open.....he looked like he had a serious illness.....

Of course it matters. If you had written such a beautiful song for a friend to sing, wouldn't you want to be acknowledged, as the writer (co-writers in this case)? David Gordon (Steven's brother) and Paul Travis wrote the song. Steven sings the song beautifully but the sentiments come from the two co writers. Way to go Spoony! I happen to love the song! And unfortunately can relate to the lyrics all too well. Was this partially written in the Red Room above Moulin Rouge?

Why does everyone keep crediting this song to Cat Stevens? This song was written by Paul Travis and David Gordon, Cat Stevens brother. It is thus credited on the Isitso album and in the credits to the film 'First Love' for which it was the title track. It was written as part of the album 'Alpha to Omega' which contains other songs by the same partnership. It gets pretty galling to see it credited to Steve as the writer. It simply wasn't written by him.
