This makes me so sad. Two months ago my brother passed away. He had a "friend" who was supposed to take care of his belongings, including his cat. I tried to get the cat on a couple of occasions, with no luck. I even went to the police. I never did get his cat and last I heard the guy who was supposed to take the cat is allergic to cats.

In Canada there is a charity called My Grandfather’s Cat, where they take cats from homes of seniors who can no longer care for their cats and re home them and have them adopted. It is a very wonderful charity and all cats are found new loving homes.

I’m thankful this turned out the way it did. Please people, make arrangements for your pets. I’m 68 years old and I have one bird left ( an African Grey Parrot) Gabby is 28 years old. I’ve ask my oldest son to see to it that he goes to a sanctuary that has other greys and he’s check a few places out. I will not get any more pets if something happens to Gabby. If I was to get sick ( incurable) I’d make arrangements for him to go to his new home so he would continue to get quality care. So sad to think about. I’m the only mommy he’s had.

Many county governments operate animal shelters in my area. At the State and Federal level, the priorities are different- roads, human health, food safety, etc. I'd buy your argument if it was that our government/culture should do more to take care of animals but I don't get the "corruption" part. No one is stealing money meant for a shelter.

That line "it was time for the Hope For Paws team to come in and handle the situation" really hits close to home for me There's a small colony of cats that live on the schoolyard across from where I live that me and a few other people desperately want to rescue but not only are we not allowed onto the property, but they've gotten too smart to be trapped in our attempts. I really wish HfP could come help, I know they would succeed and when I heard last week that somebody has planted bait in numerous spots in the area for them, it really worried me to think that they're in danger... Ten years ago I was rushed into hospital with a bone infection in my spine & sepsis. I was lucky as one of my closest friends lived over the road from me & had my spare keys so I was able to ring her & let her know what had happened & that my boys would need feeding. I ended up being in hospital for 3 weeks & my amazing friends & family took care of my boys until I was able to be discharged. If you know any vulnerable person who might need help with their pets if they’re hospitalised (or worse) PLEASE have that conversation with them. When you’re seriously ill the last thing you need is to be worrying about your beloved pets. I really hope that Grover finds a home where he’ll be loved & cherished ❤

Poor sweet Grover. I'm sure his former owner wouldn't of been happy to know he was just left like that. Glad the neighbors looked out for him until HFP's arrived. Thank you to all who helped & rescued him! Hopefully he'll be adopted soon & find a loving home to live out his life however long that may be. And yes I have a plan. My little fur baby was rescued by my niece who at the time couldn't keep her. If anything should happen to me, she will take "our" baby.

This breaks my heart how he was left behind but it also brings light to older people and their pets. My mother lives in a 55 and older community and I can’t tell you how many 80 and older women in her community have dogs and cats. A 93 yr old moved into a nursing home and her 2yr old dog was sent to the shelter. I know the elderly get lonely but it’s also unfair for the animals to suffer when the mom or dad age out and go to a nursing home or die and they are left alone or sent to a shelter. My mom has cats and a dog and the plan is I will take them all. A plan really needs to be made for every pet person but especially when the person is elderly.

Cat's have good instincts, but when they have spent their whole life inside being taken care of it's not surprising that those instincts are not able to keep their health up. There are just way too many hazards on the outside for them to traverse. I'm so glad you guys were able to rescue Grover. 👍👍
