Use the centre stand take the wheel off because it's in the way and weighs a ton on the swingarm, so much easier than all that paraphernalia 😂great vids tho kev

Love my abba stand but I guess this is one of those jobs where a full table comes in handy. Might pick myself up a high lift farm jack when I come to doing this and use it on the rear swing arm to let me take the rear wheel off Plenty of ways to skin that cat though and really appreciate you showing us it with the stand so we can see what we're getting into. Doing this on the floor on a centre stand would break me (bad back, knackered knees, I take every opportunity to raise the bike up I can) more than having a little struggle reaching a bolt.

i just did mine (well, just lubed really) as i was replacing the rear shock on my 5th gen, same set up though but your exhaust pipes are a little different than mine

Thanks I will be doing this very same job next week on my new to me 5th gen. I will be putting an adjustable link in so I can lower (or higher) the bike about 4 inches if I want, I will be lowering it about an inch. I have also bought a spare side stand and had it cut and welded. The oher thing is, it has come with the new bearings are already fitted £57. Made in the USA. MAGA Good vid.

I’m going to be buying a vfr 800 in the next month or so and I’m finding your videos on them really useful. Any chance you could describe the stator/rectifier fault and what are the things I need to look for? (Hopefully I can avoid buying one with this fault with some advice)

Kev………you mentioned something about dodgy handling…..why did you replace the dog bone bearings and not the swing are bits? Wouldn’t the swing arm have a greater effect on handling? Was the handling improved w the new bearings? Thanks

Hello. Seems that i have backlash in the shock link bearings. Its really easy to see and feel that when you trying to rise the rear wheel from the back of the bike. In my case all bearings, pivot collars and bolts was nicely greased, also i didn't find any wear on the collars and i didn't hear any knocking when i driving. I wanted to ask, did you noticed a big difference after bearing replacement? I mean, did the backlash completely gone or just decreased?

Bought myself a 18,000m 2003 VFR last summer and was wondering at what mileage/age would you expect this job to be required? (Absolutely love my VFR and will never sell it, even when I get another bike one day)
@KevsShed4 жыл бұрын
Mine had 27,000 miles on it when I did this job, that's not to say that all bikes will need it at this mileage, mine just didn't get that well cared for before I owned it.

How was your shock some say that's a weak point and can replace with a stronger one . one guy use a zx14 shock.
@KevsShed3 жыл бұрын
The shock on this bike is in good condition. If I were to replace it, I would go with a new Nitron item.

Having owned a couple of gen 5s and changed the shocks, I’ve done the bearing service a couple of times. Sorry you spent so much time videoing the process- would have been better to just show the final removal of the link then all your wrenching and jacking. I did it both times without a stand, using only the center stand. But nice video...
