In Chapter 6 when you come to that bone wall 🧱 it used to not be there a long time ago. Going straight right there and then threw a small hole a bit down would lead you to the deepest levels of the cattacombs.

Always a pleasure to help. Aside from being cautious about who will be your guide, try to go between Monday and Wednesday. Hi @_verruckt._ thank you very much for your message and your questions. I am flattered by your words and hope that the content I create continues to meet your expectations. Here are the answers to your questions, if you have any doubts or other questions, do not hesitate to share them and I will answer them with immense pleasure. 1. I haven't done much research but do you know what is with the sculptures with the pyramids and houses at 7:40? • The part you speak of is indeed a “modern” artwork made by a cataphile for about a decade. It dates back to the beginning of the 21st century (2000 - 2010) and the artist built the city little by little. It should be noted that the level of detail is impressive. * The pyramid is the only one still standing at the moment, since the citadel was destroyed due to a controversy in which the artist was involved, however I do not know the details of this incident. 2. Do you know when these were mined and built? and what did they have in mind to use these for? I didn't understand if your question is connected to the previous one or is regarding the origin of the catacombs. However, I am going to assume that it is regarding the origin of these (if not, tell me and I will provide you with the correct answer). • Initially the catacombs were ancient underground quarries from which limestone and gypsum were extracted for the construction of the city. (for example the church of Notre Dame). This network of ancient underground quarries were excavated between the 12th and 18th centuries, linked together by inspection galleries. They are made up of two main networks under Paris intramuros: The largest, called the Great Southern Network or GRS, extends under the 5th, 6th, 14th and 15th arrondissements (left bank of the Seine). The second, smaller and called “le 13eme”, extends under the 13th district (left bank of the Seine). 2.2) It was after the collapse of the "rue d'Enfer" and due to the health problem that the cemeteries in the interior of Paris represented since there was no more space that it was decided to give it a second use and thus they became the catacombs of Paris. 3. Can you access the catacombs by sewer or maintenance tunnels? * The catacombs are separated from the pipes and there is no connection between them. These are accessed through service tunnels. 4. Do the catacombs go through out the whole city? and is it a maze? * No, more than anything they are located between districts 5, 6, 14 and 15. * Although I am looking for information regarding the fact that other quarries existed on the right bank of the Sena (Rive droite), although at present they are probably completely sealed. However this is pure speculation and I am looking for information in historical libraries to corroborate it. 4.2) Yes, they are a labyrinth of approximately 300km; where there are some parts that are accessed through “chatières” or tiny tunnels where you can barely crawl through. 5. Do you plan on exploring the north side of the catacombs? * Yes, a few days ago I went down and explored them a little, however it was a short adventure, only 4 hours because I don't have much free time lately. 6. Is there a reason why people stack the bones? * Yes, let's say it was a more efficient and respectful way to store all the bones in the catacomb tunnels. 7. What are the rooms and areas named after or for? * This information varies depending on the room or place, however the names you see in the video are not the originals. since one of the commitments I made when becoming a cataphile was not to reveal relevant information in the videos about them. Now if I can afford it, I would like to know: A. Where you are from? B. What is it that attracts you to the catacombs? Or old places? C. If you would be willing to explore one of those abandoned places? Thank you for your answers and for your interest in my channel, have a great day!

Hello and thank you for your question. What you see at minute 11:30 are not real coffins with bodies. It is a work of art created by the Cataphile community to honor the Cataphiles who have passed away. The skulls are sculpted in plaster and tied to the coffins. I hope this answer satisfies your curiosity, if you have others, don't hesitate to let me know.

@al3xtrm985
@al3xtrm985 10 ай бұрын

@@al3xtrm985 thanks for your response. i wanted to ask about the water too but i thought it’s trivial considering the entire process and experience of exploring. have you thought about potential contamination in the water? bacteria thrives in stagnant water and because it’s so opaque there would be no way to visually detect biohazard or compromise. does it have a smell? to answer your question: intimidated, mesmerized and envious of whoever got to see more of it. the tour pathways are a lot more maintained, smaller and more linear. it was fascinating, i’ll revisit when i get the chance. comparatively though, what you’ve shared shows an integrated and more complex relationship between the people, the history and the network that a person wouldn’t otherwise see or know of. it’s an valuable and captivating perspective. much appreciated.
@al3xtrm985
@al3xtrm985 9 ай бұрын
@siren285 Although it may seem incredible, the water is crystal clear, the only problem is that when we walk past, we are the ones who remove the sediments that are at the bottom. This water comes from the water tables existing under the Parisian subsoil. In times of abundant rain, the water level inside these tunnels rises impressively. Although I have to be honest, I think there will be some bacteria and that the water as it is there is not drinkable. So to summarize, the water is crystal clear, there is no smell, it possibly contains bacteria that makes it undrinkable and there are people who bathe down there. As well thank you very much for sharing your answers, I know the feeling to a large extent since the first time I visited the catacombs, despite being surprised; I was left wanting more since I imagined that place would be much more mysterious. And when I was finally able to access the deepest part, I was able to satisfy that curiosity. Hope you can visit the forbidden part one day, you will like it a lot!

I also train myself to navigate with a compass, since there is no GPS signal down there. Sometimes I also try to train with the flashlights off to simulate an extreme case of not having any lighting source. Despite being a difficult task, a certain autonomy can be achieved, although in my case I always carry spare batteries and two lighting sources if necessary. @al3xtrm985 11 ай бұрын
Hello and thank you for your question, honestly it is not an easy task. It took me 8 years (living in Paris) to find the right and honest people. There are many people who can offer to guide you, however I advise you to choose someone responsible and with a good knowledge of the catacombs, since it is easy to get lost. These tips will also come in handy: • You don't have to pay for someone to guide you (not very popular in the cataphile community). • Time of arrival and estimated time of departure. • Which route are you taken (Southern, central or northern route - The furthest part). • Try to gather as much information as you can about the guide. • Always inform a trusted person of your plan, your route, and your guide information. The non-exhaustive list that I use when I descend is the following: • First aid kit. • Water (2lts minimum) • Snacks • Gloves • Helmet • Spare clothes (socks, pants, shoes) • Fishing boots • Camera • Compass (the GPS or phone does not work down there) • Personal ID • Headlamp • Spare batteries (you don't want to be left without light down there, believe me). • And the golden rule, nothing is taken out of the catacombs, nor is garbage left, you leave with what you enter. Hope this information provide you guidance and help in your research!

Contrary to what you think, the water inside the catacombs is crystal clear (I am not saying that you can drink from it because it is still water that needs to be treated) but it is not in contact with any decomposing body. When you see the water cloudy in the video it is because we are walking past and removing the sediments in it. Otherwise the water is crystal clear.

I am so curious about the water "well", is it divable?
@al3xtrm985
@al3xtrm985 10 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for your comment, and in answer to your question: yes you can. Normally in the summer months there are some members who jump in there. In winter it is not possible since the water is quite cold.

Did you felt any deep or weird energy or something "paranormal" while exploring this place? And how do you even eneter this "secret" place? Is it illegal?
@al3xtrm985
@al3xtrm985 10 ай бұрын
Hi @TheCFDon and thank you for your message!! In answer to your first question, the truth is that in none of the places full of human remains have I felt anything paranormal or strange, not even when I stop, turn off the light and everything remains silent. But if I felt something strange when I was exploring the northernmost part of the catacombs, the energy I felt was so heavy that I had to turn around and look for the nearest exit. Now to your second question, to enter the catacombs and explore in the literal sense of the word, you must be initiated by a cataphile, who will explain some rules to you, then expend hours exploring (alone or in company). And above all, share with the community of cataphiles the respect for this site. (There are some basic rules that the entire community adheres to). To the third question the answer is: if you get caught, you pay a fine. If you get an accident, the fine plus the bill of the rescue teams deployed and a long etc.

Did someone get lost in there and starved to death?
@al3xtrm985
@al3xtrm985 10 ай бұрын
Yes, according to the story, Philibert Aspairt did get lost in the quarries and presumably starved to death. He ventured into the quarries on November 3, 1793, and was found eleven years later in 1804, with the cause of his death likely being starvation due to getting lost in the quarries’ complex and dark labyrinth.

Some unscrupulous people have done this. However, the vast majority of cataphiles recognize the historical and cultural value, so it is not normal for someone to do this.

@al3xtrm985 10 ай бұрын
Hey bro! It's true, that was in a part that is not connected to the catacombs. If I'm not mistaken, it was near the “arc de triomphe” and when the police arrived they found a thank you note (I think). I could only see some photos that I found browsing the net and you could see the facilities with lights and everything.

In this part of the catacombs the graffiti changes little, I think that the authors or other members of the collective take care of them and that means that they always preserve the beauty of the place.

Hey! I advice you to be careful with who you decide to go explore the catacombs. Keep in mind that they are prohibited and you run the risk of losing your life (in the worst case scenario). Now if you really want to explore the place, do not pay for the visit!! Normally the people who decide to take you to see the place, do so because they want to share the love and respect they feel for the catacombs. (This is how you know they are serious people and they are not going to scam you or do something worse). Be careful and I hope you find the right person to go with. ✌️
