Catalinbread ECHOREC: multi-head drum echo

The Binson Echorec is legendary. And scarce! Catalinbread liked it so much they reproduced it, canned it and even bought the Echorec trademark. And they've sure done that name justice. The Echorec is full of great sounds, rhythms, uses ... inspiration! This pedal has been around for a few years but I didn't get the chance to demo it when if first came out so I figured better late than never!

Great sounding pedal. I wish the 'program' knob was notched to make changing settings mid gig easier. I have other delay pedals I can use in conjunction with it so it's hardly a deal breaker but it would have been such an easy thing for Catalinbread to do. So mine is set to a specific sound and, when I can get back to playing with the band again, I will use the Boss DD-200 or the Empress Vintage Tape Delay for my 'normal' delay sounds.

Great to see this pedal get the Kingman treatment. Great tones and thorough run-through as always. Is Catalinbread looking at a larger platform model for this? Would love to see pre-amp boost footswitch that could be used with or without the delays.

They’ve teased that they’ll be releasing one in the same format as the Belle Epoch Deluxe.

@@hoover728 thanks. I had “heard” something similar way back when and have been looking forward to seeing it develop. I hold off on so many purchases waiting for more firm product development news. Never really understood why the secrecy. If I know something’s in development, I’d likely hold off (these days my purchases are essentials only). I have a few Catalinbread pedals and like them quite a bit. A larger format EchoRec is something I’ve been waiting on.

Bought an EP-03 instead of this delay when I was upgrading my board. The more demos I see of this pedal, the more I feel like I probably would have been happier with the Echorec? The multi head sound is unique and much more textured. I like the Echoplex pedal, and with a tap tempo, pretty versatile. The Echorec seems more inspiring?

It's all dependent on pedal order, buffer presence or lack thereof, and quality of power supply.

Isn't this pedal like 5 yrs old? Seems kinda weird to demo it now. Howard doesn't even work for Catalinbread anymore.

I'm not sure exactly how old it is, but I believe, it's their best selling pedal (I could be wrong). Yup, Howard left after some bitter legal wranglings. He is an awesome builder and loves some eclectic 60-70s style pedals which he would try to recreate, especially with collabs with original builders or their family. I don't know off hand if Howard has built for sale any new pedals yet under his or a new name. Perhaps others may know where he's at.👀 Cheers

I have one of these, but, like my Mesa Mark IV, I am kind of intimidated by too many choices. I am one of those guys who just set all the knobs to 5 and relies on my playing.,, Guess I will have to sit down and mess with it to find the sound I like. Are there any recommended settings?

The internal gain knob seems useless. It’s literally off or FULL ON MADNESS no in between. Every demo I’ve watch of this pedal barely anyone even messes with it. Why catalinbread , just why lol
