This is the best bass fishing channel on KZbin. I build my own jigs. I don't pour my own jig heads, but I construct them myself. It's cheaper than buying a ready to fish jig but, more importantly, it's fun and I can customize it to suit my needs and the lakes I fish. That said, the big tip I picked up in this video was how to trim the skirts in relation to the trailer. I can't wait to give this a try! p.s. Jig fishing is by FAR my favorite type of fishing. I just have a lot of confidence in jig fishing.

I agree, I've started making my own jigs, bladed jigs, jig heads, swimbait heads, Ned heads, and slip/drop shot/neko weights a couple of years ago. Getting the exact pattern and weight you want by building them yourself results in more success, while being more cost effective and convenient than having to buy custom lures or waiting and hoping the pattern is available or still in stock. It also improves your fishing due to the fact that it allows you to make more casts into riskier and tighter cover, without the fear of losing a hard to find and/or pricey lure. If you've been wanting to start pouring your own jig heads for yourself, I highly recommend you get a cast iron ladle big enough for one pouring. There's no need to buy a plug-in ladle and many people find them cumbersome to pour with anyway. If you want to avoid using a propane torch, you can always use one of those plug in electric burners that have that red hot coil. It just takes longer. Don't forget to flux your ladle before use. Buying used jig molds on eBay is cost effective and they are readily available, but if you don't want to take the risk of getting a poorly functioning mold, one that has been overly modified, or just want to avoid any other hassles, ordering a new mold will be the most expensive part. Silicone and "stone" molds might be cheaper, but they are difficult to heat and will result in major inconsistencies. Lead can be found and reused. If you are not selling them, I wouldn't worry too much about always fluxing your lead in order to remove all the impurities. If the lead is so impure, the slag impedes the flow within the mold or starts to ruin your ladle, simply mixing in pieces of candle wax, instead of using commercially available flux, is a common and inexpensive method used by many. Don't forget to use mold release on every surface that contacts the molten lead. For cost savings and convenience, many people simply burn a wax candle, with a decent sized flame, directly under the mold. Good fishing buddy!

This video was made to give details on how members from our team modify jigs. We have had specific area videos, such as our recent November Top 5 Area video. In our fishing lure videos we also have our team members explain specific areas that they target. This video is the first video we have not gone into depth on where to throw the lure since it was a modification video. Thanks for watching!

I'll punch the ice, Lol 😂, I'm not joking we don't see much ice at all but when we do I'll keep uping my jig size and flip it even higher to punch through lol, we were just screwing around during the big blizzard we had a few years ago i threw the heaviest jig I had and it went through so I fished it up and down through the hole in the ice and it wasn't a minute or two of up and down the water column and I was hooked up, I pulled a 4 lber through the ice! We couldn't believe it if it wetent for braid I don't think I could ace iced that fish busting through the hole and across the. Top of the ice, Texas ice fishing I may have been the only one that caught a bass that week, I don't know how you guys up north can stand it we had to wait four days just for a partial thaw to throw anything, all winter, I would have to move! Lol

I make my own jigs because bass patrol is the only company that comes close to what I like, that being said I treat jig making like fly tying I take my time and really pay specific attention to the details, throw a net bait paca chunk trailer on and whammy! I encourage everyone to give it a try, easy to do!

Picasso Lures titanium weed guards are better than the cable guards. Cable weed guards bend and break off eventually. Picasso Lures titanium weed guards are low profile and pin the fish on once the hook is set

Matt, you have worked closely with Dirty Jigs with your guppy head, have them make a jig with all the modifications you just did and then sell that to the public so it is "stock" out of package ready to go, more time for other things vs. modifying what they sell in package. Just a thought, for one I am not close to understanding jigs in such a detailed manner, so for me and others like me we want to purchase something ready to go and zero mods required.
@CATCHSUM9858

Which then the jig will take alot more work to modify, more work more money
@davelerner8461

@@CATCHSUM9858 I guess but some would be willing to pay extra for that "perfection" just like we pay more for a Megabass Vision 110 jerkbait versus a cheaper lousier version from another company.

The reason a lot of companies will not sell a jig already modified is because preference for modifying jigs can be different for each person. Even in this video here each angler had their own unique way and reason to trimming the skirts. These anglers have fished a lot so they have experimented with different modifications. Hopefully this helps answer your question. We appreciate you watching the video!
