Great video! I've done sashimi with rubberlip surfperch, black perch, calico surfperch and striped perch before. Surfperch all have parasites, but I'd be surprised if they were dangerous to humans. More of a concern in freshwater fish. Quick correction, shiso is in the mint family (Lamiaceae), while nettles are Urticaceae. Nettles are edible too though!

Weka Digital Media NZ there’s a satisfaction/challenge of using artificials in a way to manipulate the fish to think it’s the real thing. But also convenient when you don’t want to carry around bait that can go bad.

Yeah these surfperch love Berkeley Gulp sandworms. We also use a lot of sand crabs as bait when we're on the beach!

Great Redtail and colab video. Judging by the reaction from both of you and Ish, the skinless sashimi had the better texture and wasn't as chewy. I hope it wasn't too wormy. Nice presentation, looked like it came from a high end sushi restaurant. Cool to see you rep Bay and Beyond 👍

I would highly suggest you freeze your fish before doing sashimi cause there is a good probability of you catching parasites.

Your body's digestive system will burn and kill the parasite on contact. However, it is the parasites eggs that are deadly and can travel through the digestive system to the lower intestines and hatch. Wasabi or sake will not do away with the eggs, so freezing it is a must.

So cool you teaming up with Ish for something unique like this. This is the first time I’ve ever seen anyone use a Redtail for sashimi, so that’s new to me! Anglers down in SoCal I know swear by walleye perch sashimi however, so that might be one for you to try in the future.

Don't eat freshwater fish raw. Always freeze salmon. Most saltwater fish are fine to eat without freezing but if you're ever unsure, just freeze it first.

Yay! Taku is back! Red tail surf perch sashimi style? Looks awesome taste is acceptable I'll have to try this what a difference a proper sharp knife and cutting board makes, having a professional sushi chef helps too ;-) in preparation. Did you take the time to bleed and ice down the fish? Now you need Barred and a striped surf perch to compare taste and texture. What about monkey faced eel sashimi? hey, getting better at fishing, Ish is supposed to be the experienced angler! I might be a little hesitant eating that perch sashimi style, I've seen deep water halibut being fileted & the guy showed me worms in the meat. cooked well may be ok, but not raw.Great presentation withe the skewer & avocado. Do you have something similar at the Shushi Restaurant?

A lot of surfperch I've caught has had parasites in their flesh . You can see them several minutes after you filet the fish trying to crawl out. Don't think it's a good idea to promote eating raw fish without freezing it first. Viewers who are not aware of this problem might learn the hard way , that you did it so it must be safe , but I'm sure you knew this. Surprised you made this video . People trust you and you need to be responsible for your content. Love your videos , but not this one .

It is a really bad idea to eat fish out of the water like that without preparation. You can easily catch a parasite. Restaurant can do it because they freeze the meat first to kill the parasite but I do not recommend anyone do what you did in this video.
