Catch Crappie Like a PRO with These October Vertical Jigging Tips!

We are crappie fishing with a jig and bobber in October for some, what I call Golden Black Crappie. We will be Vertical jigging and bobber fishing mixed up to getter, some of the tricks I learned from my dad mixed up with my techniques and it works pretty good. Great day of fishing! You caught some toads! I like the idea of the bobber stop on the bottom of the bobber as well as the top to keep the jig from rising too much.

Why not use a fixed float? Although that bottom stop does same. I’m getting them four to seven feet just outside weed bed edges, and over flats. Lakes I’m fishing are clear water and max depth is 40 to 80 feet deep. But they’re coming back up into shallows now. I saw skim ice on edge of lake couple days ago. NICE CATCH and that duck weed is cool👍. I’m using slip float rigs too

You can use slip corks the long cigar corks work good but I can drop the lower bobber stop two or three inches and get a six or seven inch bounce up and down it's just more versatile for me. I used to use cigar bobbers all the time. But I have a few more options with the slip bobbers. I can reel all the way down to the jig if it is snagged and just poke my jig out of the snag. I have a tackle box full of everything so if I run out of one I will use the other. LoL 😂

Do you set yoyo fishing reels? What is the longest/heaviest Crappie you caught on a rod&reel? In Chicot State park in Louisiana, we caught a 18.75 inch Crappie on a yoyo fishing reel 200 yards from the South Landing. My Dad was astonished by the size of that fish! Yes sir I use yo-yos every once in awhile but mostly when I'm not doing real good on rod and reel. My biggest to date is a 2.67 lb white crappie, he was 17 and 1/2 in Long. So you guys have got me beat for sure. My hope is to catch a 3 pounder soon. We shall see. You guys definitely caught a slab Daddy. I know that must have been real exciting, congratulations on the catch. 😊

I kept waiting to see vertical jigging. Working a jig under a float isn't vertical jigging, it's float popping. Check out Kendal Frederick he has his own line of rods (float poppers) designed specifically for that. Vertical jigging in Tennessee is dropping a jig straight down in tree tops, cover, or open water typically with 10' or longer poles without a float. Maybe it's a regional terminology thing??? Anyway, I like your channel and watch often.
