I think they will adapt in time. We've never had any trouble introducing new cats to the residents. I hope it works out well for you.

Hi Ron, yes it takes time...sometimes months! Your resident cats are probably pretty set in their ways and are trying to figure out just what this little imp is doing in their territory. Once they realize that 1) they are not going to be displaced by the kitten 2) They are still "loved" by you 3) they will still get enough to eat, then they will relax. Just make sure they have a way to escape from the kitten if he's being too playful. I see a happy trio of cats in your future. Thanks for the comment!

I think cats know when people are helping them and appreciate being adopted. We took in a stray 3 years ago that hung around our house for 6 months. We hesitated over uncertainty if he'd adapt to indoor life, get along with the residents, spray, scratch the furniture, etc. None of that happened. He moved in, made himself right at home and all the other cats accepted him right away. Maybe he was someone's cat before coming to us although he was pretty skittish when at first while still outdoors. I'd love to know his story but he doesn't speak English! :-)

I'm currently socializing 5 feral kittens, estimated to be about 15.5 weeks old. I've had them for 4 weeks (come Sunday) and I'd say 2/5 are fully socialized, another 2 are most of the way there and the 5th is more social than feral but still a little fearful, though he loves pets. It's my first socializing case and while I don't want to only take cases like this, I definitely want to do it again sometime! Adding to the fun is 3 out of 5 are panthers that are pretty similar in size. Making a mistake on who was who has led to some hijinks! lol

One of your best videos yet! He came around very quickly after freaking out in the drop trap. I wonder if he may have been someone's cat for a while or was possibly born indoors then escaped? Either that or you definitely have the magic touch and "tud appeal!" :-)

Hi, thank you so much for the nice comment! I think Amigo is a stray, since there are lots in the area. People sometimes put food out, and maybe pet them a little, so they are not as fearful of people as other cats, but no one really takes care of them. Still, I have been checking the neighborhood boards in case someone is missing a kitten. xoxox

@@KittenSchool There aren't any stray cat colonies where I live, but I'd certainly take care of them if there were. Very few stray cats appear around here. Maybe that's a good thing. Hopefully, it means cats in the area are being cared for.

This is amazing. I have a cat colony that I take care of. And there was a little girl I've always wanted to take home. But absolutely adore the outside. She played with the other cats in the colony, She chased the chickens around. She was so playful outside. But when she needed medical help I took her to the vet and adopted her. I introduced her immediately to my one-year-old kitten who I found at the same colony. They fell in love immediately. My question is where'd you get the harness that you are using? And this new kitty is somewhat affectionate but I have a very difficult time even getting a collar on her. Much less our hardest. So Amigo is doing terrific. But if you could share some of of the items you have that would be terrific. And any suggestions on how I can get a harness on the new little girl. My little boy was raised with a harness. In fact he fights if I try to take it off of him to wash it. That's a whole new story
@KittenSchool3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thanks for the nice comment. I buy my harnesses online, some from Walmart, some Chewy, and some from Alibaba. The one I am showing in this video is not the most secure, but it is inexpensive and easy to put on and off, plus it's adjustable. Thanks for the comment and good luck with your lucky kittens!

@@KittenSchool I trapped the beautiful kittens in my back yard today. Her mama is a beautiful white and black cat. I got four caught today, one adopted by a friend. I have to get up early to trap one more. My 15 year old is angry with me. So isy hubby. I just couldn't let another litter get hurt in the cat colony like so many before them. Please say a prayer for these precious little ones. I want them in good homes, before winter. Thanks for your channel.

I've recently started doing TNR in the town where I live, and while the actual TNR is easy, the kittens are the hard part! Not just socializing them (especially the older ones) but finding them homes. Can you PLEASE do a video on how you go about finding homes for all of these guys? It's a big problem in my town, even finding people to foster, let alone adopt.
@KittenSchool3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lizzy, this is a great suggestion. I know it's hard finding homes for kitties sometimes, even I struggle with certain cats. I am glad to hear that you are doing TNR, that will go a long way to help cut down on the litters being born. I will make a video on how I find homes for my fosters at some point. We use a lot of online pet adoption sites, like Petfinder, to get potential adopters. Without that it would be hard.

I just trapped and neutered two 3 months old feral kittens. Actually I have been feeding outdoors since they were about 4 weeks old. While they don’t hiss at me, they are a bit wary of me and don’t allow me to touch them. How so I take them to a social box?

Hi there, I think in a busy household like yours you should get the kitten who is least fearful. So I would choose the kitten who is not afraid and likes being around a lot of people. BUT if you feel drawn to the boy then get him, you can help him overcome his shyness. I do find that my boy cats are more relaxed than the girl cats. Hope this helps and thanks for the question!

I need help! I’ve rescued a kitten and she’s sweet but I just don’t know how to handle her. I’m afraid I’m making her social skills with people worse. I can’t even pick her up. When i try she freaks out and runs away into walls sometimes. It’s heartbreaking. I just want to help her. What do I do!??
@KittenSchool2 жыл бұрын
Hi Cheyenne, you just have to go slow. Try to get a crate you can keep her in, like I show in my videos. I call it a Social Box. Then put on heavy leather gloves to start picking her up, in case she bites. Once you handle her a few times she may hiss and growl but probably wan't bite, but it's better to wear gloves at first to be safe. You can also wrap her in a towel. Keep in mind this kitten thinks you are trying to kill her, so she's terrified of course! You have to teach her that you only want to give yummy treats (soft and mushy ones are best) and gentle petting. Over time, she will understand that you don't want to hurt her, and she will relax. But it takes TIME. And a lot of patience. I have a lot of videos on how to socialize a scared kitty, please check them out on my Kitten School Channel home page. Good luck!

Hello i just need your help , i had an old cat and i got a new cat before 2 days and until now the old cat some time lick and bite and the other time get angry and hit her what should i do to keep the old cat love the new cat also how long it will take approximately to let them love each other .
@KittenSchool3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, two days is a very short time for an older cat to accept a new one. Keep them separate for a while unless you are in the room supervising. If they can sniff each other under a door that is fine. Feed them together with bowls spaced about 5 feet apart. Make sure to give your old cat lots of attention, so she doesn't feel neglected. It just takes time....sometimes even weeks! Don't give up.
