Out of all the catcher videos I have watched, Kyle's explanation and intent with his drills have been the best. Really good stuff!

ive had a lot of coaches tell me to block the ball, ive had 2 coaches ask me if i even know how to block a ball, and i have only had 1 coach actually do drills with me on blocking. videos like this have made more of an impact on my blocking than any other source, although im still not comfortable blocking in game for our fast guys

Kyle is LEGIT! As a former catcher who is teaching my son what I know, I really enjoy Kyle's explanations and style.

same it either hits off my ankle where padding is or just straight into my glove

@@kruminio902 I think the key is to have your leg out farther, plant your toe spike onto the ground so you can push and pull yourself off that leg. Idk though, personally I only do it will no runners on base.

Great great content! I've played up through minor leagues and the one kneed down was seen as "lazy" but with the evolution of receiving and just the skills of pitchers, it makes so much sense. The blocking techniques are fantastic and easy for most to just pick up and really improve their blocking skills. Now that I coach, I will absolutely use the drills you mentioned!

Where should you position your right hand when you are catching bc I have heard behind the ankle or under your torso but I feel like the ankle one will be to slow to get my hand under my glove on a block

On the pushing & pulling wouldn’t you get a better body position if you pushed off on the leg opposite the ball ? In Soccer as a goalie to get more distance you push off with the near leg , but that puts you horizontal as I would think pulling from that same side would.

Why dont infielders drop to 2 knees to block a grounder?
@lancastergerard3 жыл бұрын
Because infielders have to throw to first. And catchers can’t move their feet to create the hop they want because of the batter and the fact that they’re 60ft from the pitcher.

He's framing his mitt different than the last guy showed. He's not making that L form with his thumb and first finger that you showed on another video as the correct way to hold your mitt.
