This is a way better analysis than I expected of what I thought was just going to be showing a novelty play.

We leave with the view of the catcher walking out to the mound. Don't you kind of wish you could hear that exchange? "Woulda had him if you hadn't put your head in the way of the throw." "Don't expect a Christmas card from me this year."

I love your analyses, Matt! Always learn something. Thanks for highlighting the CF's hustle to back this one up. Also, a bit late but the RF also breaks behind the CF, as anytime the ball is rolling in the OF there's that slight chance it gets under the primary fielders glove. Hustle costs nothing, and every once in a while it can win you a ballgame.

I've been a fan of this channel for years cause I never know what is going to happen at the ballpark on any given night. The breakdowns makes these 10 times better. Keep being the best Matt!

Didn't mention it specifically this time in the video, but touching the runner with the glove without the ball would be interference. I remember that from a previous video, so I'm learning!

You should break down the Yankees game last night against the Mariners where Rodriguez was thrown out at third after dodging a bat missile in the 10th inning.

You caught everything as far that I could tell. The second base and center field points would have been missed by me being fascinated by the hit pitcher, the umpire spin, and then finally just seeing the situation as “well that was fun”. Great learning points!

For years I watched the Dodgers from Top Deck Sec. 3, Row R (last row) for convenience, the best game perspective, and from the nearby concourse, majestic views of DTLA and sunsets over the Pacific. At 1970s Oakland A's games I chose Sec. 317, behind home plate. For so many reasons, top-deck seats are the best in the house--unless you're filthy, stinkin' rich.

That is the kind of stuff that would make me want to follow you around dugout. Good job bro. Pat on the back. Want some sunflower seeds. When I am on a team full of guys who do the little things like that. Everything is good in the universe. We probably have a winning record are going to make the playoffs. Im feeling good to a part of it. Cause that is the way the game is supposed to be played. Imagine how the runner felt getting dequed like that? I don't think it would have mattered if he did see it. Unless he was one of the fastest guys in the league he is most likely going to stay put. Excellent job center and second base. Played a majority of my career in the outfield. So that really gets me excited. Baseball is a calm then with every pitch the everyone is moving around. Until the play is dead everyone has something they could be doing. Baseball players are athletes. Because there are short sprints all day long. Sprinting on and off the field every inning, backing up every play is a sprint, chasing balls down, running things out on the bases. If you play hard you are definitely going 100 short to medium sprints in a game. How i look at it. Show up to play and get your work out in.

@Mitten4371

Yea as a pitcher you are taught when the catcher is about to throw down to second to get down as low as you can. But also on a play like this the entire infield will yell that the runner is going and that lets the catcher know when to throw to second. But also as an infielder or outfielder you are taught to back up the play when the ball isn't hit directly at you and so the center fielder realized it but also the shortstop has to get there and back up the play as well. But in the shortstops defense he doesn't know if there could have been a hit and run play on and so he was probably told to stay put just in case the ball was hit to him
@EdwardCurrent

@Mitten4371
@Mitten4371 3 күн бұрын
@@EdwardCurrent I think you mean as a base runner and it's because if that ball got into centerfield like it did here and if this runner has speed well he can end up on third. But this second baseman did a good job in selling it to make sure that he doesn't take third base

@Mitten4371
@Mitten4371 3 күн бұрын
@@mal2ksc Yea but also he was having to play to pull and before the next batter steps into the batter's box you will see the pitcher pointing and he's wanting to know who is covering second base. But also the catcher needs to know whose covering second and in this case it was the second baseman
@Mitten4371
@Mitten4371 3 күн бұрын
@@EdwardCurrent Oh I think I know mean and the reason that the pitcher turns to look before the ball is past him. It's because he needs to know what base to backup because if this throw goes to third well then he needs to be there to backup the play

Pitcher ducked but is there better advice you would give to get out of the way of the throw?
@paulpinball9952
@paulpinball9952 21 минут бұрын
It would have required lightning-fast reflexes, but if the pitcher had been ready to catch the catcher's obviously low throw that probably would've bounced to, or past, the infielder, he would have avoided being hit, but ceded the stolen base.

Watch the batter after the pitcher gets hit on the head. He feels the pitcher's pain and reaches up to his head.
