looks like you're using a 5' UltraLight St. Croix premiere rod and a Pflueger President reel? I use that exact same settup for rainbow trout fishing. Fishing for big carp with that gear looks like a lot of fun! We have some giants out in our lake(24 year old/ 20+lbs) that I'm gonna have to try to catch on UltraLight now! Great vids and very informative!

***** WOW! I am so glad I saw this video. Not even 20 minutes after I watched it i was down at my lake with my UltraLight rig and a floating grasshopper lure and on the very first cast I was hooked into a 30+ pound monster grass carp!!! I have a video uploading right now of the whole experience but i just wanted to say thanks for giving me the inspiration to try and catch one in the first place! It was a 30 minute battle i won't soon forget!

I use the same rig with just a straight hook but I use a 1000 size Shimano reel and an 8ft ultra light rod either a Phenix or a Daiwa Presso for ultra light bass and carp fishing except I fly line plastic worms with a small mosquito hook and it's super fun!

I use a forked rod holder to keep the rod tip high, and then I peg about four feet of line down so I have plenty of time to react to a strike. A clothespin tied to a small, metal tent stake works well to peg the line down.. Barely clip the clothespin to the line so it easily pulls free when the carp starts taking out line. I've never lost a rod this way, and I usually have five to ten extra second to react to a bite. I have seen a lot of rods taken, and it can happen fast.

Quick question what lb. test leader line do you recommend if I'm using 12lb p-line cxx as main line? I'm using a SPL 1100 6'6" LITE (1.95m) Action M (6-15LB SIGMA) Ugly Stik Spinner rod. I want to fish for delta striper or catfish. Bank fishing.

Carp are fantastic gamefish even though a lot of people despise them. In France we catch them up to 30 kilos (66 pounds) on specific light rods we call "canne anglaise" or english rods. Carp will fight till you net them. Great fun. No kill, of course.
@InformativeFisherman10 жыл бұрын
We have some giants here too, I keep up with the Korda vids. I'm still pretty new to carp fishing but gearing up to show the American public how great of a game fish they are!
@alainprevost219710 жыл бұрын
***** Pound for pound, probably the best freshwater gamefish there is. American anglers will surely enjoy. Check into those rods the Brits use: quiver tips or float rods.

What's the matter with using ultra light gear? I mean for catching 400 pounds tuna no one uses 300 pound test line or something. Like you said. You just have to let him run, just in other dimensions :) I would also use 2 or 3 pound main line but there are to many snags in my waters. So 5 pound upwards for me. (Still less then most others fish here.....)

I know they are hardy fish, but don't you worry they may not survive the long fight? Basically dying of exhaustion. It happens. I love fishin light tackle as well, but stopped fishing extremely light. I don't need an 5-10 min battle, 1-2 minutes is fine considering most fish we catch only takes 30 seconds to land.
@sammarkey848110 жыл бұрын
I would only worry about that in really hot weather.

Hey Chris! Let me give you some pointer on catching carp! Not too heavy line nor too big hook! I use 10lb line #6 circle hook! Most importantly, chum a little several days in advance, (if its legal in your state) so they feel safe eating whatever bait you plan too use! Carp are very leery and suspicious! Also, when you plan to throw in your bait, approach the bank quietly! Cast in and stay out of sight! If you can see them, they see you and will not bite anything! I fish for carp at a creek and catch them readily using these techniques! Hope this helps! Very exciting fish to catch! Good luck!

So odd to see carp being put back. Being from the riverland South Aus, carp are a major pest and is illegal to put back. They do however make perfect crab bait! I use a ten dollar kids rod with heavy swivels as bigger carp seem to destroy them, and have a lot of fun. interestingly enough, while everyone even here claim corn is the best bait, I'm yet to catch one on it, preferring to use shrimp instead.
