Adam, lake trout (and all trout) have the ability to burp, thus they don't suffer from barotrauma. Trout are physostomes, meaning they have their swim bladder connected to their digestive tract, which gives them the ability to fill or deflate it with their mouth. when Ice fishing for lake trout you can see the bubbles come up through the hole.

Lake Tahoe is truly breathtaking. I went last year and i was amazed on the beauty and felt overwhelmed by the size of the lake trying to fish from the shore. The surroundings lakes in the Tahoe basin are also one of a kind, each lake more beautiful than the last one.

I have fished Lake Tahoe a couple times from shore for rainbow trout. Nothing very large, usually around 12 to 14 inches. There are some very large lake trout down deep, and most people catch the larger ones in the wintertime. It is a very beautiful Lake for sure. The Truckee River is a assume river to fish for both rainbows and brown trout. I know a guy who caught a 13 pounder in this river right in Reno!

I agree that Tahoe is tough. You are correct with the drop offs for lake trout, the rocky shallows for rainbows, creek areas for Kokanee. I have fished the lake for 65 years, you want the big boys, you need to start before the sun comes up, the record lake trout for years was caught on the South Shore just before sunrise.

Fun video as usual. Glad you caught some fish as I've heard it can be tricky. I've never fished Tahoe although I've visited it many times. I have fished the Truckee river a few times and always caught fish. They were always smaller rainbows, probably planters that were in the 1-2 lb. range. On small rooster tails and split shotting fireball salmon eggs or cheese salmon eggs on 2-4 lb test mono. Would be fun to fish the lake sometime. Beautiful country to be in.

Lake Tahoe is often called, "The Jewel of the Sierra Nevada Mountains". Easy to see why in your video. However, it can be a very sketchy body of water on windy days. Regarding trout fishing, if you intend to catch and release, please do not lift trout by the lip (may injure the jaw structure), don't touch the gills or inside the gill plate, and always wet your hands prior to holding the fish.
