You can save empty paper towel rolls and empty toilet paper rolls..fill with dryer lint.makes a great starter..kids project is to use old wrapping paper and make the rolls look like poppers..awesone for fire pits too.

TGR stands for Tree Growth Regulator. It means when the easement or right of way was trimmed in 2008, the tree got sprayed to keep it from growing back twice as bushy.

Good choice on the Stihl chainsaw. We have had a Stihl MS291 for a few years. We are suburban folks that have lots of trees on our half acre. Due to the Emerald Ash Borer, our area lost tons of ash trees. We lost most of our West shade on our house. We had many trees topped off by a knuckle boom truck that could grab the top of the tree, slice it off, and lay the tops behind the garage where we could process them into firewood. Now we are starting to take down the trunks of those trees for firewood. I envy people with more land and fallen trees, because it is easier to cut up a tree than cut down a tree. As we approach 70 yrs old and have hip issues, I don't know how many years we will be able to continue with wood stove heat. After years of a nonfunctioning furnace we had a new furnace and central air conditioner installed this fall. We will always have some wood. We love having one really warm room to sit in for the evening.

We have learned that some wood is not very good. Cottonwood is too stringy for easy splitting, even with a 22 ton splitter, and arborvitae burns too quickly.
