unbelievable driving by both. the track is really narrow and slow, and yet the guy in the Ferrari is not being humiliated by that crazy caterham with a superb driver, just a bit beaten... Surprised how much faster the Scud is on the straights though, and most of all how fast it is on fast corners and direction changes. really impressive from both cars and drivers.

The R500 Superlight starts at £41,995. You can then add the following options which obviously put the price up; Sequential Gearbox, Launch Control, Carbon Induction Airbox, Race damper package, Lowered floors, Data logging Stack Dash instrumentation, Heater, Track day rollbar, Battery Master Switch, Interim Catalyst bypass pipe* (track use only) Full roll cage

For something with the aerodynamics of a house brick, you have to totally love the mad Caterham! :)
@1061shrink10618 жыл бұрын
You say that, but in this ones case, it has the aero screen, and combined with the fact the car is so narrow means its actually more aerodynamic than you'd think. Also caterhams unlike even modestly priced sports cars, has almost a perfectly flat floor, with a 15 degree upward tilt on the rear overhang, meaning the car doesnt produce much in the way of lift, so traction is also excellent. One of these has a damn site less resistance to moving air than the car it's chasing :)
@wobblyrampack96558 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info! Very interesting, I didn't know that. My only experience driving a Caterham was years ago with a Seven fitted with a chipped and tuned 1600cc engine from an XR3i - a rocket to 60mph then it ran out of grunt a bit although we did get 105mph out of it IIRC. It had the usual Seven-type windscreen which would not have helped. :)

The tyre on the Scud had been on the car since it was new in 2009, and it was Pirelli PZero Corsa. But I think the rubber was a bit hard, since it looked the same after about 10 trackdays in Norway and 1 trip to Nurburgring, driving there for 3-4 days, pluss 1200 km on the road down and back again before this day :-) Anyway, we had a great day with some nice laps :-) The R500 is a great car, and very fast! :-)

Good piece of video. Entertaining. I have a Super 7 1400 Hayabusa. Sequential gearbox helps lap times. You would have gotten around him earlier sans passenger, which adds a good percentage of weight. 430 had a little more top end on the straight, but you were generally holding a tighter line through the corners and he was holding you up there a bit. Stock Avon rubber?

Used to own a factory built '89 Caterham Super Sprint 1.7 and it was a great car, but a little expensive to have sat in a garage 6 months of the year. 3 years ago i bought a mk1 Eunos and to be honest, I have more fun in it. I'll never sell it. It's not as fast, obviously, but it's far more fun to drive the tits off it on public roads as the overall speed is much lower. Best £600 i ever spent!

Love that track profile! Those tight corners one after another and nice proportion of elevation here and there. We don't really have tracks like that in Finland. Ahvenisto is the only comperable that comes to mind. And it's a nice "classic" track. Good driving btw. Looked like lots of fun.
@paperinik77pk11 жыл бұрын
On straight and large curves the Ferrari has the power to keep away the Caterham...but on tight corners the acceleration, lightness and awesome chassis of the Caterham can beat easily more powerful cars. Chapman was a genious and this simple, yet amazing car proves it.

Great vid, right camera angle and goos sound. One extra passenger in a 'half ton' car hits the performance more than one extra pasenger in a 'ton and a half' car (which is the common weight around which are the common today performance cars). Scudeias was faster in straights, a bit slower in the corners. But... that white car was clarly faster than the Scuderia and faster then the Seven... what was it? A Porsche GT3 maybe?

He was doing well but you could really see the car wobbling side to side coming out of the corners once the Caterham caught up. I can imagine driving a Ferrari is hard work compared to a Caterham as the 430 is pretty big and the Caterham is nothing really.

Une voiture de luxe capable de tenir les temps d'une voiture de course homologuée, Bravo à la passion des Italiens et à la rigueur des Italiens du Nord.

@mauriziopescatori46068 жыл бұрын
+CrimsonRider You think... whatever gear the Caterham was in, flying out of the peak the driver immediately shifts into the next gear; so either it was a dogleg gearbox and it was already in 2nd, or it was an ordinary gearbox and the hill was done in 3rd at high rpm...
