I made this video the day before I left for a trip, so I was in a rush and forgot to mention some models: Wisdom Himalaya - Wisdom's competition to Mack's Musik Express. It has 22 cars that can fit 2 people each. This version does not really have 'hills' like most Musik Expresses, so the track is pretty much a flat circle. Schwarzkopf Buggy-Swing - Schwarzkopf's competition on the Musik Express. Debuted in 1971, only one was built and is still traveling in Germany. It has 20 'dune buggy' themed cars that fit 3 adults or 4 children.

Mate, it has 20 cars because each 5 cars has different colours, and theres four colours. so 5x4 = 20 right?

I'll always remember the Music Express as that ride with the loud-ass speakers. I remember it being set up relatively close to the old Chance Trabant, "Casino," at my local fair, so there was music to enjoy when the ride was ridiculously long for the Trabant. Only got to ride the Music Express itself once before they sold it about two years later... Awesome little thing, a nice middle ground between intense and family in my opinion.

i never new that the Calgary Heritage Park had an original caterpillar. I remeber riding that as a kid but now want to go back to appreciate it again

My wife has a 'greatest hits' CD of Def Leppard. To me, that artist is ideal airplay when riding a Musik Express ride.

I used to watch this ride go all the time as a kid. Playland at the PNE has one. Couldn’t ride it because I hadn’t reached the height requirement so I could only watch

That's the only one I've seen or ridden too! It helped me find my bearings in the park because of how loud the music was. 😁 Didn't adore it but family tradition said we had to ride once every visit. It used to go backwards (in the 80s/early 90s) but the last few times I was there it was only forwards. I don't recall which was more fun though. ✌️🍍

Man I remember this ride from the 70s. I was just a kid but booze and loud rock and roll was the rule of the day. A lot of fun was had.

Oh yeah, German here. Both Caterpillars and Musik Express were huge parts of my childhood. Haven't seen a Caterpillar ("Raupe", as we called them) in a decade, but Musik Express is still pretty popular I believe. I remember the heaviest person had to sit on the outer side of the gondola since the centrifugal forces would send everyone outwards and squash them. that could be a tad painful

There's a new one called the Hawaiian Express, and the led lights are so bright it's the same experience, but i think it's smaller

You forgot about Mannings caterpillar which last i heard was at a heritage museum in England. I have had the pleasure of building up, riding, and pulling down said ride probably the last one left of this style in the UK

Favorite amongst our friends. When we go to kennywood we get on the Musik Express. Usually we try to fit 3 people in a car (none of us are small teens) and we try our best to try and endure the pain throughout the whole ride. Oh, and we snap and then point with both hands at the operator every time we go around

Canobie lake park was is the closest amusement park to me growing up. Never knew how rare the caterpillar was in the US. Definitely a great ride.

Hully gully also goes under another name schwabachen.trabant is the main model your referring to,also hangten and explorer are also similiar to both the music express and flying bobs ride.

Idlewild Park in Ligonier Pennsylvania (not far from Pittsburgh) has/had a Caterpillar as well. I say had because they removed it in 2013 for refurbishment and there have been no updates since. A shame to being such a rare ride.

Woah! So that's what they're called. My State Fair one called Ladybug and the suspended version is Alpine Bobs! Edit: I don't see anything that's quite like Ladybug, as this version has big wheels underneath and actually drives on the platform. Ooo Albine Bobs is a Matterhorn!

SOOO many memories of this ride ... . Pretty much every major amusement park I've been to has or had one of these, and similarly with pretty much every beach that has a ride pier. I know that a Reverchon Himalaya still makes the rounds at the Meadowlands State Fair every year, and pretty much all the NJ beaches with ride piers (Seaside Heights, Ocean City, Wildwood) have a Musik Express. . Knoebels has an indoor model with lights: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIOydKOlbLanpsk . Even Sesame Place has a ride of this type: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWjCgJakmaiWg68 (jump to about halfway through the video to see) . Of all the types, my favorite is the Reverchon model: 24 cars (more than any other) and larger hills make this a lot of fun. Still, I'm fine with any Mack or Bertazzon (sp?) model. However, I have *NO* love for the flat-as-a-pancake Wisdom model. . Nothing says 'carnival' like a blaring siren as a Musik Express ride hits its top speed!
