Love the footage and seeing machines working so effectively in such tough soil. Love the fact that it’s all Cat as in USA.

Hi, Ken. I hope all is well with you and yours as it is with me. Great video with good camera work and GREAT drone footage. Thanks for sharing. At risk of sounding like an armchair critic, I would have thought that the semi-U blade dozer ought to never stop ripping and general house-keeping instead of taking a turn at double pushing. I also can't help wondering if it would be more productive in that ground to not bother with any double pushing and have any dozer that doesn't immediately have a scraper to push get to ripping. For funwithguns89, Quote: "Seems to me pushing on them isn't any different than ripping through rock." Unquote. If the ripper is carried low like these operators seem to be doing, it is not too bad, although the forces on the rams and linkage are pretty much the direct opposite of what they are when ripping. When the ripper is raised well up, I would not do it 'cos the forces on the ripper rams are substantially increased due to angles and leverages. I also noticed that one of the cushion push dozers had a push block welded to the back of the ripper beam. That would help ease the problems a LOTTT 'cos the extra push would be going direct to the ripper beam instead of risking it causing more problems by going down low on to the ripper shanks and thus changing the leverages on the rams. Just my 0.02. You all have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

What an interesting roller/grader at the very end where the scrapers are dumping. That is rough material alright. Question... Is it okay to push on a D10 on the rear ripper/s? I noticed one had no ripper being pushed so am curious as to possible damage to the cylinders of the ripper.

How long does the blade on the scraper last in that ground? That stuff looks pretty rocky. Great video.

Nice video. It seems that despite the rough material, there is excessive time pushing, especially when there is a good load in the pans. Wasting time trying to get a heaped load in this material that does not heap lengthens the loading time considerably. More time is wasted trying to get the last yard in the scraper than the first ten or so yards. In more than a few cases, scrapers were in the cut waiting for a pushcat. Smaller loads would speed up cycle times and hourly production.
@gregparrott6 жыл бұрын
I see what you're saying. But, I have to believe that SoCal knows what they're doing and what is most efficient. I would guess that the time and distance associated with transporting the load to its end destination is great enough to justify the extra time spent 'loading the last yard'.
@mariotorres62876 жыл бұрын
You make a good point. It is the total cycle time (load time in the cut, loaded haul to fill, dump at the fill,empty return to cut) that determines production. Not knowing what the haul length or the haul profile (helping grades or retarding grades), or the number of scrapers in the spread, I was just going by what I see going on in the cut. If the haul length is such that excessive time is spent on that portion of the cycle, perhaps adding additional scrapers is justified, while hoping to keep the scraper/pusher ratio in balance. It is a fact, however, that more effort and time is spent in getting the last few yards into a scraper, especially in non-cohesive materials such as that seen in the video. Most likely the contractor is doing, in this non-heaping material, what works for him at hopefully the lowest possible cost per yard moved.

I agree fully. ALL these scrapers are taking far to long to load.. Waisted time in the cut and other scrapers sit and wait, ready to be loaded..

There’s no since going to the fill with anything but the biggest load you can get! We are paid by the cubic yard, not the trips! If you had good push cat men on those D-10’s, you’d have much better production. I remember the days when 800 to 900 loads a day was common place. And that was with a pair of old D-9G’s! Haul dirt or haul ass!

Since they are using multiple push cats , do they no longer make anything like the old dd9s ? 2 d9s , 1 operator ?
@davidwood1294 Жыл бұрын
Correct. Cat hasn’t made a DD9 since the 1970’s. The problem with them is when one has a problem, they’re both down.

Look up the video It might get a bit rough and that's me ripping with the D11T for 651 ones with two Tens pushing getting big loads and quickly
@Gavin84w6 жыл бұрын
That sums it up pretty well Don Kuhner, that sort of material is a little harder to load than say the clays and soils you see the 657 and sometimes 651 in some of Kens other vids in and around socal.

First thing, very awesome vid guys, love all the heavy metal! At the risk of sounding stupid, can someone explain the white strips on the scraper tires? I've been running loaders for almost 30 years, I'd love to get some seat time in one of those scrapers some day.. and to learn how to operate one of those dozers. To me, it looks like a dream job. During our Silage and Haylage harvest, I put in around 15 to 18 hour days in a 9520 John Deere, with a Degelman dozer blade on it, so I understand about putting in the hours. I've seen lots of these types of vids on here, but in my opinion, yours are easily the best content, the best angles, and the audio is spot on! Thank you for all your hard work in putting these together for us, your editing is perfect. My name is Kevin, I'm from northern Colorado, and I'm eagerly awaiting your next vid! Take care guys, stay safe.

Some of these scraper operators are taking far to long to get loaded.... With 2 push cats, a 631 scraper should get a good pay load in 25-30 seconds, taking a 3 tenths cut when loading..
@mojostevo6 жыл бұрын
In good material, sure, but not this stuff. 6:40 is a great example, even the 10 is have difficulty getting traction. Can't cycle material if you can't get the power down effectively.
