Thank you John this brings back many 70s memories seeing these Welsh Rock warriors live. They were an awesome band, singer and bass player Shelley sadly died this year.

I cannot express the excitement at seeing Budgie in the 1970s....they were awesome.

The smallest breed of parrot (native to Australia) is known as a budgerigar , or "budgie" for short. They were commonly kept as pets in the UK in the 60s and 70s. Hence the band's name and the artwork on their albums depicting budgies - a small, delicate, domestic bird - doing dramatic or aggressive things. I think it showed the contrasting sides of their music and the sense of playfulness often reflected in their song and album titles too.

Budgie came out with this song in 1975. Heart, Barracuda came out in 1977. In 1978 Judas Priest had galloping on their album, Stained Class. And then Iron Maiden with their debut album in 1980. Those are the earliest I know.

Glad you dug it John! The first five or so Budgie albums are as good as anything else from that era :)

Budgie were innovators of the galloping beat. A lot of their music made use of that beat.

Saw Budgie in their last UK gig, it was rescheduled and I only found out about it 3 days beforehand. Met the band afterwards as well, excellent show!

Saw them in the seventies and early eighties a few times, the last time was on a double bill with Ozzy's "Blizzard of Ozz" on his first tour with Randy Rhoads et al.

Another great band and choice John...a power trio of the first order. Much underrated and a fantastic catalogue of music to explore... Slower track from them and a favourite of mine... Slipaway👍👍

Burke Shelley, lead singer and bass player parodied himself in the title of the band. Budgies are a small lorikeet from Australia with a high pitched trill voice.....much like Burke. Budgie is a heavy band that don't take themselves too seriously. You do bear a striking resemblance to Burke Shelley

Budgie vibe is banger. Nazareth Galloped This Flight Tonight. before that it was Deep Purple - Hard Lovin Man 1970. may be the 1st.

They were good enough for Metalica to cover a couple of their cuts, IIRC.
