Once Henry wants her she can't do anything but accept and she pays, WITH HER LIFE for the mistakes of others. It definitely wasn't the things a well brought up lady of the Court should have been learning and the Dowager Duchess knew it... although she blamed the wrong person! They all did! Honestly, the fact that none of her relatives did any of their duties to her in protecting her from the men in the Dowager Duchess's house or from the anger of Henry when it eventually came out... because you knew it was going to come out. The fact that they had already lost one Queen in the family to beheading should have told them that palace politics would find out any secrets that were out there to find. It all just disgusts me and makes me so sad for her! She didn't stand a chance and you have her parroting this garbage about how it's her fault! IT WASN'T HER FAULT!!! You're putting today's standards and laws on a circumstance that is hundreds of years old. Though we know it wasn't her fault, and that she was sexually abused and groomed, at the time she lived she wasn't considered a child. Even today victims face harsh scrutiny and are often blamed for the sexual abuse they endure, so think about how bad it was hundreds of years ago. Women were treated like absolute garbage in her century. We see it as what it actually was, but at that time, she would definitely be blaming herself and considering her abuse indiscretions of her own fault. The psychology of today and then are drastically different.

Katheryn Howard is one of the most tragic historical figures I have read about, and I say this as a Tudor and medieval historian. She was did not make any mistakes, she was groomed and assaulted. It is believed that she was no older than 20 when she was beheaded.

I don't understand how people call her a child, she did all of that with her consent. Girls reach sexual maturity by 9 or 10, they feel, and they can say if they want it. Thomas Cranmer tried to offer Catherine a way out - he asked her if she and Dereham had been pre-contracted (in other words engaged) to each other. Catherine said there was no pre-contract. If she had claimed there was then this might have saved her from execution. Since Catherine's death future monarch's were expected to marry virgins - indeed Diana had to undergo an examination to prove she was a virgin prior to her marriage to Charles. Since that ended in disaster because Charles loved a woman who was not a virgin, this requirement has been dropped.

Although, they could have also been in a consentful affair and Henry’s speculation was right or they could have simply been friends and they were caught together and everyone assumed the worst. either way, she didn’t tell him about her past (i don’t blame her at all tbh) and when she was caught with thomas the king decided to execute her..ya it’s a lot.
